How do Waimak feel about all this I wonder? They're meant to one of the Burnely clubs in Chch, but it looks as though it's actually Selwyn. What do the cagefighters reading this think?
McMann used to be an APFA man (when APFA boys used to play PDL for Selwyn).

I'm not entirely certain on where Lee will sit.  He was at a player/coach meeting on Saturday afternoon - but could be entirely independant as I think he'd just arrived in the country the day before.

Burnley Host clubs are supposed to be given support by Burnley coaches, we were told that was part of the deal. Not sure at Selwyn, but north of the city at least Martin and Graham have been running some of the sessions while the second Burnely coach (that must be Lee?) was getting sorted to come over. Did a bloody good job at that. Not sure how much Mainland FDO support Selwyn is getting (Tim Bush on leave for 5 weeks in middle of season?) but what these guys deliver beats everything else we've seen hands down.

What ever it takes to make the div 1 teams stronger I'm all for. I hope the Selwyn guys can get it together they seem to have a reasonable set up out there and we need more teams not less. The better the standard in div 1 the more chance the team that gets promoted will have when playing MPL and hopefully that will help that league be more competitive all round. I'm guessing that if FC go down then the FC bombers will drop out of Div 1 is that correct.

Yeah I was wondering about the Bombers as well if the MPL team gets relegated.  I'd assume that would be the case.

Not necessarily. Div One hasn't really been consistent over the years, and it appears they need teams to make up the numbers, hence FC2011 and CashTech have teams in there and Parklands dropped out cos they didn't want to be there.  So if there wasn't a team wanting to fill the place (as Parklands are top of Div 2 and have previously not wanted to be Div 1) then it might come down to the fact that they might be able to stay.

Does give them 2 chances of getting promoted though!

Or Selwyn doesn't get relegated?

Yer true, that sounds fairer.  I suppose the gist of my msg was that if there was room, they could stay.

I guess that's what ya get when so many clubs have merged. Looking forward to getting some stick from the old Brighton boys tomorrow night when we play Coastel should be a bit of humour they were always pretty vocal when I played for them. I guess it's hard div 1 needs more teams in it at a higher standard to prepare them for MPL so they don't only get promoted for one year only to get relegated the next but there are no longer the amount of clubs around.

We need a win too so surely against a team in a lower division it will be a walkover. That's what happens in cup football right?

I just hope our boys can get up for it and we can make the papers for the right reasons. Asb has not been a happy place for us this year but cup football might change that...... I hope

As long as we get him registered before he plays, don't have quite the same number of points to lose as Uni did :)

From a Selwyn perspective, there is a feeling we aren't a million miles off, despite the results. We have suffered a lot this year with loss of 1st team players from last year and unfortunately there isn't the depth coming through yet. I suppose if you compare us to Waimak (in terms of location/travel boundaries to Chch players) then they are far ahead in terms of players, but have also been around for much longer. I myself was suprised we did as well as we did last season, and it was subsequently enjoyable, this year not as much for the guys obviously.

From a personal perspective, I am keen to learn from the guys coming in, even though I am ALMOST as old and gray as Dragoon. Hopefuly next year we can get back 4 of the players lost from this year due to injury and army placement, and if we get a lifeline and stay in Div 1 (weird) then there is a better chance of getting better players to the club.

I think a club of Selwyn's size, to only have it's top senior men's team in Div 2 isn't right, but that isn't the club's fault.

Yea it would be a shame if selwyn were not in Div 1 they have good facilities out there and are a good bunch of guys to have a beer with after game.

I have heard there is a report being sent in regarding the disgusting behaviour of a couple of the Mid Canterbury players.

Spitting in some ones face is totally unacceptable.

By all accounts the Waimak Players and coach did nothing but shake hands take the defeat and walk away.

BTW I was there.

One of the mid Canty guys spat in the face of one of our guys we brought it to refs attention he wiped it off. A couple of the mid Canty guys were trying to niggle us up during second half and after game our guys didn't really react to it. Ha ha masks would be pretty cool but all we want is a good game with no niggle I can't be bothered with that crap

from this mornings Press

First division football club Waimak United have dodged any extra punishment for what had been alleged as a "deliberate deception" of Mainland Football's judiciary panel.

Following a post-match incident on May 18 where referee Marc Anderson was pushed, the club lost three competition points, coach Dave Lay was suspended for two weeks and player Brad Stuart was given a nine-month ban.

The club argued Stuart wasn't involved and had already been in the changing rooms when the incident took place.

They admitted the player involved was Ben Thomas who has subsequently been given a six-month ban while Stuart's punishment, which was longer because of previous indiscretions, was rightly wiped.

Video evidence was supplied by Waimak's bitter rivals Universities which showed it was in fact Thomas who pushed Anderson.

But it also showed Stuart was in the middle of the large melee, not in the changing rooms at all.

A source close to the incident told The Press Waimak also tried to deny it was Thomas who pushed Anderson having already admitted it was him in writing.

Mainland Football investigated the deception angle but chief executive Mike Coggan said "no further action" would be taken.

"The penalties stand as dished out."

Waimak United are one of only two Canterbury teams left in the Chatham Cup knockout competition and will this week play their deferred game against Nelson College with the winner set to play Mainland Premier League side Cashmere Technical in the competition's fourth round.

Brilliant game. Had everything - oggies, red cards, some great football and great goals, linesmen abusing supporters and ............... refereeing that reached new heights of amazingness. Waimak scored first early on then proceeded to demonstrate why they will be in Div 1 for the next couple of years anyway with some naive defending. Pretty much all Coastal with Leithal coming close to scoring on several occasions in his 100th senior appearance. Best part of the whole game was when the ref ordered the Waimak supporters away from behind the goal at the western end of the ground because they were abusing the keeper who just so happened to be playing for ........ Waimak. Classic! Pity he didn't do the same to the Coastal lot who were clearly upsetting the young lad. He showed admirable restraint.

Great entertainment, bring on the semi's.
