Weather hits ASB Chatham Cup replay in Nelsonhttp://nz.sports.yahoo.com/football/news/article/-/17681477/weather-hits-asb-chatham-cup-replay-in-nelson/

Weather has already played its part in one of this weekend's impending ASB Chatham Cup third round replays, forcing Nelson College's match against Waimak United to be postponed another week.

The match originally scheduled for last weekend but abandoned at halftime due to unplayable conditions will now be played on Saturday 29 June due to the travel involved for the Canterbury side and no guarantee the game could go ahead this weekend given rain and snow forecast for the Tasman region.

The latest postponement will have a flow-on effect to round four, due to be played on the weekend of June 29 and 30. Cashmere Technical will now play the winner of this clash a week later in a delayed fourth round fixture.

The three other third round replays are all still scheduled to go ahead as planned.

Forecast high of 6 today with possibility of more snow, what's the chances of all remaining games being cancelled?

Waimak probably hoping not, they due to play Mid Canty at ASB at 6pm, after all MPL games. If called off then they face a real big backlog of games, especially since this looks like it was tee'd up after the further postponement of the Chatham cup replay

A huge win for Nomads with all the goals coming in a brust in the first half. It will be a big ask for FC to climb off the bottom now as likely to been to win four of their remaining games and then hope Nomads do not pick up any more points.

2nd goal was an absolute purler, from wide left at top of the box where the Nomads guy stepped his defender, had a look then curled it perfectly around a stack of players and the unsighted keeper into the bottom right hand corner. Didn't see the 4th one (left after 20 mins) but the 1st one was ping pong in the six yard box with the FC keeper making at least one brilliant save before the goal came at the 4th or 5th attempt. 3rd goal was a howler from the keeper who drove a clearance straight up the jacksy of the striker 25 out from goal with the ball rebounding directly toward the goal, foot race toward the goal line between the keeper and the striker ended with the keeper pushing the ball over the line as he dived to retrieve it. FC are gone.

Yes payback time from Cashmere over Coastal for dropping 2 points when 2-0 up then drawing the last time they met. Cashmere more passionate and committed, Coastal naive defensively offering up soft goals then failing to take their own chances resulting in a 2-0 half time score line. Much the same in the 2nd half. Jordan Hall outstanding for Coastal at left back. Very sound performance from Cashmere, looks like John Brown has them hitting their straps at the right time of the season. Good win for Bays over Western as well to keep the race very tight.

Looking at the draw for the next four rounds:

Nomads have in order: Suburbs, Bays, Tech and Western

FC have in order: Coastal, Suburbs, Bays and Tech

so on current form hard to see either side picking up too many points so will FC hit the market in the final week before the transfer windows closes on the 30 June.

They can't.
They have a chairman who is also the chair of Mainland Football who are vehemently opposed to player payments.
Catch 22.

Aaaaah the rules, carefully constructed so that they may not comply with NZF or FIFA regulations .............. and murky to boot. Test case anyone? I wonder if there was a case for protesting Bays payment to players (Highfield and Kamo both recieve in excess of those rules)? Would be interesting ......... perhaps that is FC's get out of jail free card.

Yer this is a good topic, player payments. Where exactly are the rules regarding payments? And how does it/does it not comply with FIFA and NZF?  Not like Mainland to not abide by rules!

What's the happs with Uni's further challenge with their points? And wasn't there a challenge against Nelson and their overseas players? As far as I can see it Chch Utd only have 3 games left, and if they will those, then get promoted. Uni don't have a chance unless those above drop points.

Thatll be a great step forward for Mainland improving the quality of the MPL. Dropping out FC for an equally quality side like Chch Utd to take its place. Im sure Utd would lose if they had to play each other in a playoff.
Better Uni or Waimak make it through.

I've heard uni has their appeal infront of NZF at present.

The banned player apparently missed one of the games they had points docked for so that could add 3 to their total and I think they're pretty hopeful of gaining a few more back.

I'll try give you a rough idea.  After the voting in of a new committee on Wednesday night, Martin Allen was voted in as Sports development coach.  The committee have placed Graham McMann into the coaching role for the Div 1 squad with a view to get some momentum back for the year and start off for 2014.  They also have Lee Padmore (?) and Richard (One from Burnley and another coach/player I believe from Halswell) to help Graham out as well.

All this happened within the space of 3 days.

Padmore is the Burnley coach who has been stationed in Perth.

How do Waimak feel about all this I wonder? They're meant to one of the Burnely clubs in Chch, but it looks as though it's actually Selwyn. What do the cagefighters reading this think?

McMann used to be an APFA man (when APFA boys used to play PDL for Selwyn).

APFA boys getting regular games seems to be a bit of an issue, why don't they just play the Mainland FTC groups every so often?

I'm not entirely certain on where Lee will sit.  He was at a player/coach meeting on Saturday afternoon - but could be entirely independant as I think he'd just arrived in the country the day before.
