Mijn stijl van spelen past het best bij Ajax van de drie topclubs'

My playing style fits best with Ajax from the three top flight teams.

“I enjoy watching Ajax most because of their attacking style of play. Their 3-0 win over PSV Eindhoven was the best game I have seen Ajax play. They were very aggressive. From the three top flight teams, my style of play fits best with Ajax”

About PSV, on the brink of snatching the domestic title against Ajax this weekend: “Their stamina and resilience are second to none. It’s how they pipped us in the dying seconds in Zwolle earlier in the season. They done it many times. That’s not luck but quality”.

Personal note.

Ryan Thomas, who as far as I am concerned has lost his brilliance, touch and finesse of the first half of the season, has been associated with Ajax in the media rumour mill should Maroccan international Hakim Ziyech be on the way out.

A 1-1 draw. A full 90 mins for Thomas.

Zwolle drop to 7th on the table. Now just 1 point above Rojas's Heerenveen who are 8th.

The 2nd half of season, unravelling continues for Zwolle with a 2-0 loss to the bottom side.

Must be having some deterimental effect on Thomas’s options for a ‘big’ team move.

He picked up a yellow only his 2nd in 30 Games this season.

Zwolle have been terrible recently, I think its very likely we will see Thomas move in the off-season. He's made his intentions pretty clear with Ajax too

Bad day all round. Zwolle lose again, this time to Willem II 0-1.

Thomas subbed 36 mins. Presume injured? Hopefully not serious

No Thomas as Zwolle get smashed by AZ 6-0, in their last game of the season. Maybe they played some youngsters. I think you can call the 2nd half the season for Zwolle a disaster now. They finished 9th on the table. Van Schip’s job must be under scrutiny.

Thomas made 31 league appearances, was subbed just twice and scored one goal. I think needs a good football break, with some time to work out his next club move. He’s also now a young father. He played Confeds Cup and leadin last summer, so no real off season. Think he will give India a miss.

I don’t think they played youth, they needed to win for a play off position. Terrible second half of the season for PEC Zwolle and Ryan. Marco’s Hereveen went past them and secured a play off spot against my club FC Utrecht. Excited to see him play here next Saturday.

Ah forgot Thomas was subbed early last week, so presume is injured, and therefore missed last game.

He's probably on the move over summer, so pity didn't get to say goodbye to fans, even bigger pity, season for Zwolle went into freefall.

Pre Christmas they -

Played 18  Won 9 Drew 6 & Lost 3.

Once returned from a 1 month winter break at end of January, they -

Played 16  Won 3 Drew 2 & Lost 11. A real collapse.

Interesting. I was reading this Dutch footballing article linking him to Ajax and a surpsising majority of the comments are negative towards him. Did he really fall off that much in the second half of the season?

I think Ajax is the least likely club of the bigger Dutch clubs Ryan will be signed by. They have great youth team which they tend to give opportunities to, mixed with some experienced stars. Ryan doesn’t quite fit that make up. I’d say PSV or Feyenoord or even AZ/Utrecht would be more likely if he’s going to take a step up in Holland.

I haven’t seen any. Maybe he’s staying put. Interest might have slowed after a not-so-good second half of the season?

Interesting that when he was at Zwolle with Thomas a few seasons ago, Sainsbury was often on the bench whilst Thomas was already a regular starter.

But since leaving Zwolle, Sainsbury has done well, and is now VC of Socceroos. One of their better players.

Good point of reference for likes of Thomas, if ever feel his career is stalling (not saying that it is). Hang in there, because it can all change reasonably quickly.

The Flying Kiwis thread said he could even be content to wait until the January transfer window. But he probably needs a good start to Dutch season, and won’t be helped by Zwolle losing many of their better players recently.

Another article about Thomas https://www.voetbalzone.nl/doc.asp?uid=335146

A transfer seemed to be in the making for Ryan Thomas. The 23-year-old midfielder, however, seems to be working on his already sixth Eredivisie-season for the club in Overijssel after 31 August and therefore sets himself new goals. "I often have to do what I used to do in the backyard: dribble and shoot myself", the New Zealander refers to his poor goal-point production of last season: one hit.

"In addition to moving the game quickly, it's time to become more selfish and to score more. I often do not shoot myself because I think about the team. That has to be done. I'm not aiming for a number, because then I might try to force it. This part just needs to be better to get my game on the next level ", Thomas thinks in conversation with the Algemeen Dagblad. The lack of goals could be a reason for clubs to finally put the interest in Thomas into reality.

"That could be. Clubs may first look at returns, because they might want a midfielder that brings five to ten goals. They do not immediately look at the number of interceptions or the pass purity. Maybe that's why they switch on. "Thomas insisted that his agent should only call if he could sign somewhere. A phone call remained off. "He does append how things are going and things like that, but otherwise not. He knows which clubs I see sitting. I could go to Russia and China, but he immediately rejected those clubs. If I take a step, that is not for money. I only make a transfer for football.

"Thomas does not know whether PEC applies too high a demand price after last year's contract extension until mid-2019. "I still have a contract for one year, so clubs do not want to pay too much. I understand that. PEC has the right to earn a nice sum on me. I want that myself, after all they have done for me at PEC. If it does not come to that, it is unfortunate for everyone. "

Good thing he didn't choose Russia/China in my opinion..

Wow, very good move. Quite funny, happened *just* after I read in this thread that maybe he'd have a chance at a move in January.

It seems surprising considering last season wasn't his best? Anyone know much about PSV's lineup - assume there'll be a lot of competition.

Great move for him. At PSV he will have a shot in playing in the UCL and winning the Eredivisie, this will give him more exposure to top teams and especially when the team as one of the best young talents in the name of Lozano. If he can perform well here I reckon after 2-3 seasons he could be somewhere big.

Gutting for PEC Zwolle, for a team that I'd never really read too much about before Thomas signed for them, to following all their results, the ups and downs week in and week out. They are unfortunately just not big enough to keep ahold of their best and brightest talents.

That said absolutely brilliant news for Thomas! Hope he gets some good game time for PSV.

I know Wood and Reid play in the EPL for respectable clubs in Burnley & West Ham, but surely this has to go down as one of the biggest ever transfers for a NZ footballer? Good stuff and good luck to the lad.

Definetely would be.

Champions in holland, championship league, if Chris Wood had left Leeds for this club, I wouldn't have been upset

Think this is a great move for him

2-3 years here and if he succeeeds he will be in the window for a further transfer to even bigger things

Most of the fan comments I've read are quite happy with the sale; not because they don't rate him, but because they know that money is the lifeblood of the club.
