Worst has to go to the Wellington Cake-Cutters

Best: Fever!

I also like centurions

Worst: Anything with New Zealand in it; seriously, thinking beyond three years, we should aim to have at least two, maybe three teams in the A League.

well it seems like a few are going for fc wellington and thus avoiding any gimmicky names.

i must admit i grow rather cynical of hearing to the likes of nz cricket engaging saachi's and spending thousands to tells us all what nick name to give the team.  i also liked how nz hockey spent thousands and advertised a massive promo/launch only to tell us that they were calling the mens and womens teams the same thing.

anyway, happy to see that the three men in charge aren't going down that same embarrassing route.

FC Wellington has punch and will go down well with the footy fans of wellington - but the likes of Dow, with their marketing hats on, might want something that brings in the ten year olds and makes for silly mascot

for the record - agree, ridiculous re nz hockey going for unisex branding - but "massive promo launch" is complete porky - and martin devlin actually found to have breached broadcasting standards in relation to that story (you needed to know that).

FC Wellington was the best, but then there were far worse options than Phoenix too.

FC Wellington
or
Wellington Centurions

would have to be my choices but to late now.

FC Wellington was the best. But as far as nicknames go, Phoenix was easily the best.

FC Wellington was good.

I'm happy with Wellington Phoenix though.

Christ, you're right Brock...  tell us Terry, your public want to know.

Were you the model for the Phoenix's head ?

I havent heard much of John Dow and Ian Wells during the last 3 days. Terry seems to have taken over.

A good place to Start but can we loose the Peter Crouch Image...Hell it's not cause I'm an Everton Supporter just want a site which has more obvous A-league focus Should be a Phoenix (when one comes available) player Ricki..or even Da Greek Godfava.

Furthermore all the UK Football links may be better if they were more subtle?

Why weren't you at Team Welly games ?  Best football in the NZFC (for seventy minutes).

Worst name idea I heard was on Radiosport. Some old dear called in and suggested Weelington Rex (Rex means king etc). Name sounded too much like Wellington Wrecks, a name better suited to previous NZ efforts in the A-League

Took me a couple of days to get used to Pheonix, like it now though.

You don't want something like FC Wellington. Its not marketable. Wellington Phoenix is perfect, great logo too, probably the best in the league (ours is pretty boring to be honest). And nobody wants to be anything like Sydney .

liked quite a few of the suggested names, esp. Wellington Wanderers which reflected the amount of travel involved in the A league, but Phoenix is good...

Ha, this thread had made for a great read. Now that the side show bob hair cut has gone. Great to see HN there, I note he joined on the 29 March 2007, is this the day you guys all got together. I know Feverish was on the 23rd March. I am quite interested in the early history of the clubs supporters and forum.

No.  I was a few days later.  Originals were FrankieMac, Buckle, JamesDean, Feverish, Pancakes, Reg22.

I worked with someone who knew Greenie and had 'previous' with Bloc 5 so offered my services.

Sure has, been a lot more laughs than bad things too. The scholarship creation, the bus trips. Next game to Napier I am definately taking the Fever bus.
