Has he really broken his arm of have the Justified Ancients of Welnix (JAW) had a meeting with him and suggested that he may have a "season ending injury" which effectively terminates his contract???

Anyone remember that scene in the movie Victory (aka Escape to Victory) where they have to break the goalkeepers arm so that they can get Sylvester Stallone out of isolation to take his place, because Sly is the only one who knows the escape plan having escaped, met up with the French Resistance to get the plan and then gotten recaptured earlier in the film?

This could be the same thing here.

DOUBLE INJURY BLOW FOR PHOENIX

The Wellington Phoenix has suffered a double injury blow 11 days out from the clubs first Hyundai A-League game.

Tricky, speedy, midfielder Lucas Pantelis is on crutches after sustaining a knee injury in Sundays loss to Central Coast Mariners in Tauraga, while striker Mirjan Pavlovic broke his left arm in the last minutes of a training session at Newtown Park today.

Pavlovic was in obvious pain as an ambulance took him to Wellington Hospital where the break was confirmed.

Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert said the injuries were untimely such a short time out from the seasons kick off against Gold Coast United at Skilled Park on October 9.

It is a big blow for the boy, Herbert said as he watched Pavlovic being helped into the ambulance.

He has been training well and was starting to look sharp.

We dont know yet how long he will be out for but I would think it will be six to eight weeks.

Lucas was also going well but the knee injury will keep him out for four to six weeks so it is a double blow.

Ahh f**king hell.

Didn't Pantelis have a lot of injury problems at Adelaide?

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Wish I was still there. Might be a chance for a starting XI spot. Upfront of course but Greenacre would have to relinquish his Number 9 shirt.

Wish Pav and Lucas are speedy recovery.

Would be great to see you on the field Tony, we may have to see Ricki return to his playing days to fill the final spots in the roster instead...

Only if Ricki has his 1982 shorts.

As for Pav and Pants - give them lucky casts (plus head bandage just to make sure).

Yes, the important thing to remember here is that whoever replaces Pav has been in contact with the French Resistance and knows what the escape plan is.

Rob Morrison is creative midfielder

Gareth Morgan I had picked as right wing but News thinks more CDM.  Could even be considered as Goalie (Kiwi saver).

Ferk me!!!!  and the good news is?

Just when it looks like we have turned the corner and cleared up the ownership issues we loose 2 forwards for quite a long spell....Pav is a loss for sure but Pantellis had been looking extra good. Now we have a first 11.....and half the bench will still be jetlagged for the first game.

How many minutes are Greenie and Ifill good for?  or for that matter Daniel. We have quite a few old guys up front.....if you can rotate them a bit you might get away with it but honestly...its gonna be tough.

Sure hope we get some good news soon on the transfer front soon
