I'm a bit scared that it's going to be even more difficult than usual in the transfer market for us - earthquakes, no coach, poor results, half a back-room, license hanging by a thread; we're not exactly an attractive destination

I don't think the licence will affect it - we're still 3 years from oblivion and that's probably longer than most contracts we would offer anyway

Maybe not isolated from everything else; but together with all of the other issues, I think it will play a part.

I'd want Marinovic seeing as he's off contract in June and in the AWs games I've seen of him he's looked better than Mambo IMO. Serious question, has Marinovich made any really good saves in games for the All Whites?  I've not seen him do a lot at all, he's not really been tested, but he's also conceded a few stinkers and I can't remember any worldy saves at all.

Yeah but $$ makes that all go away.  Spend money in the right places and we'll be ok (top tip, don't recruit two highly paid foreigners in the same position)

He made a few big saves in the game vs USA at the end to keep the scores level, and was really good at the OFC Nation's Cup. He made a couple of crucial saves in the final especially. Italiano is possibly the better shot stopper but is hardly immune to making howlers himself (see that attempted header the other day) and I just think on balance Marinovic looks more capable all round, as well as being more experienced and closer to his peak

So how many "left for personal reasons" left by mutual agreement have the Nix had now, seems like its every second player that leaves the club.

Probably feels more because of that and others leave but not actually leaving the club.

Smeltz scored 2 goals in 30 games for a non-league English side the season before he first joined the Nix. Playing at a lower level doesn't mean he's not good enough for the Nix (especially for young keepers as they get less chances at breaking into first team squads)

Liften didn't leave for personal reasons, he asked to be released because it was clear he wasn't going to get much game time.

I thought we got a fee for Burns. Although there was a rumor that he had a buy out clause in his contract.

It's a shame there's no transfer fees in the A-League.

Why, is Geria going anywhere?  Tratt may struggle to get a gig at a top four club so early.

Be a bit cheesed off if Tratt uses us for a bit of the season and then has a long career at WSW or some such. What happened to Manny-esque loyalty?

I hope he is able to handle whatever life is throwing at him at the moment and comes back and score some more headers or make some more mazy runs for us...

Did Pavlovic leave for personal reasons?

According to an article - 12/10/2012

Phoenix yesterday released a statement saying the striker had a "medical condition which restricts his ability to play professional football".

Has managed a stint in India, the NPL NSW & NPL Victoria leagues since leaving Wellington.

Absolutely gutted about Tratt leaving. If it's for personal reasons and family matters then fair enough - like someone said earlier, some things are more important than football.

What I suspect is that while his personal matters are being tended to, he may find he has several knocks on his door from the likes of Central Coast, Newcastle, WSW - clubs who can dangle that carrot of being relatively close to a family base, clubs that have a number of spots opening up during the off season, and clubs who will probably chuck a bit of cash at him based on his performances for us this season.

Our situation with no one really being told anything much surrounding their futures with the club probably made it easier for him.

Good luck to him, would take him back anytime, but I suspect he'll be lining up against us next season.

Personal Reasons is a bit of a catch-all term. Just reading the articles in the mainstream media, I personally have no idea at all why Powell and now Tratt have left.

Yep all we can do is guess. Which means we're basically forbidden from being critical, lest we look like heartless morons.

I'll just say that they have not picked the right profession if they need to be close to family. Obviously happy to retract and apologise if the reason is compelling in both Powell and Tratt's cases, but I guess we'll never know.

Yea definitely understand that. And all credit to the Phoenix for being understanding around whatever these issues are.

Just strikes me as odd that I've never once seen it in the leagues/teams I follow, yet there's been 2 in a short space of time at the Phoenix, and unfortunately the lack of actual detail does leave room for speculation.

You'd also think that the Phoenix would try and keep him on their books but loan him out to a state league team or another a-league team.

Rumoured (by FOX Sports) to be considering an offer from Newcastle Jets.

Must be a damn good one just to move there.

1) he might have bought a house south of Newcastle

2) CCM did not get a wooden spoon this year

Cool story but if he wants to move to a club that might actually make the finals and compete with the big boys Newcastle ain't it. pretty much saying he just wants the $$$ no matter what.

I don't recall any great saves at the nations cup, couple of decent ones in the shoot out at the end but very little from open play.  He doesn't look that agile to me, done little that is impressive that I've seen.  Solid but no more

And son had a transplant in Sydney.  Vuka took a lot of stick on fan forums for his move on personal reasons without anyone letting on what they were.  Came out after donor found and  successful operation.

My take on the goal he conceded vs USA was that he was unsighted by one of his defenders and didn't see the shot until it was too late. He could have done better but I think calling it a howler is harsh. Generally though I think his positioning is good and he's got good judgement for coming out sweeping. But I'm not a goalkeeping expert so it's just my impression. One thing Italiano does have going for him is that he wouldn't miss games for international duty.

A long term girlfriend who is unable to shift to Welly would be my guess.

A year's absence is OK, but an extended contract might be a relationship killer.
