He always struck me as the sort of person who would feel some loyalty and could be lured back here if/when he's A-Leagueable again.

Until his departure, i had him down as an early nomination for player of the season last season. His form was imho pretty good.

Agreed. He certainly didn't look out of his depth in the A-League, quite the opposite. Had such a distinctive style too, with his gangly limbs and weirdly excellent ball control for a big guy (nod to a conversation in another thread).

Looks unlikely that Sydney will be able to retain Jordy Buijs. I would take him in a heartbeat here

Why are they unable to retain him? Surely not salary cap worries?!

Yeah cap issues, he wants more money than they are offering

He can dive into the Tasman Sea and swim to Wellington to teach him a lesson.

Doyle + Buijs + Fox + Tratt = tasty

Personally, I always felt that Gulley was the equal of Tratt and that both would become better than good A-League right backs.

The future looked bright, however we lost one and ditched the other.

We know how good Gulley has become, hopefully Tratt can do the same as it would be nice to have both back

This! Gulley was thrown in the deep end with us and performed great. I distinctly remember the Aussie commentators ( I think Harper) being very complimentary about a few of his performances, and I don't remember him ever having a shocker in the 8 games he played. He's only just turned 25, definitely not too late to get him back. If we could sign Tratt and Gulley and keep Doyle and Galloway (There is still time for him to show his potential) we would have really great depth for fullbacks, plus three of those look comfortable at centre back too.

Having seen Gulley a lot at Handy level, I think he's a good right back, but not enough to be A-League standard.
I think we should be pushing for better players personally.  He's a hard worker, has speed and seems a great bloke, I just don't think he's it.

Specifically, I think he gives the ball away way too much and gets beaten way too often when he's taken on 1v1.

That's only my opinion though.

Sorry were you talking about Gulley or Galloway?

We need a centre back to replace Durante next year

According to Transfermarkt the following Aussies are without contract and under 30.

Any of these be any good?

-Matthew Spiranovic

-Sebastion ryall

-Sam Gallagher

Spiranovic is a pretty good defender with lots of experience.

And would command a marquee-level wage.

Dura seems to be talking about another year and we should give it to him, he's not the problem in the back line and a combination of him and Fox can work out to be pretty good.

Dura has been a fine servant of the club.

But in football terms he is getting on. The A league as a whole seems to be getting better and better quality players.

Age catchs up to us all including football players. Hes slowing down.

He is not the problem in  backline, but his lack of speed is one of a number of  problems the back line has now.

Its time to celebrate his time and  let him go at the end of this season

I think we should offer him one final year but with a mutual understanding between club and Dura that he won't play every game. I expect we will have quite a youthful side next year, and having him around especially for the defensive players would be a huge asset. We're in the A-League, and Dura is literally the best ever A-League defender. He may be slower now but tactically its still all there in his head, I would've thought that knowledge and experience is too valuable for us to through away yet. I also feel sorry for him that his "final season" has been potentially the team's worst season in history, and I'd be fine with giving him one last crack at being in the finals

You're allowed 3 marquees now I think, so honestly I'd be fine if we gave one to Spiranovic or Buijs

Because I don't think he is very good....? Is that good enough for you?

Sign better footballers. He is just another Cameron Lindsay in a different shade of blue.
