good game from the fellas- rufer was immense. I still feel we should be replacing josh, he good at running but everything else is woeful. Bring on the next game.

Double standards? You're comparing a player with 6 years A-League experience with WSW (81 games) to a kid who joined this year and has only played 7 A-league games (according to Wiki). Not exactly apples.

He reminds me of Appiah a few years back.

He's not that bad! No one is that bad.

Very encouraging performance from the team; played some neat football and were easily the better team in that game.

Sorry cant agree at all, same standard should apply if your good enough to take the field why should less be expected from him. Seems Talay appreciated what Sotirio brings far more than others. Thankfully its him selecting the team.

The same Appiah keeping the leagues highest ever goal scorer (Berisha) on the bench?

There's a bit more to it than that, ie, Berisha's injury and apparently a falling out between him and Rudan. Appiah and Sotirio are very similar cases, both very fast, with flashes of brilliance but inconsistent, often showing poor touch at the crucial moment and a general inability to score.

They are the sort of player you'd prefer not to have in your starting lineup but they are useful squad backups.

assist for Ball's goal was pretty handy.....put it in the space Hooper had run through and on a plate for Ball with defender dragged away. Great team goal bit it needed the right pass.

Unless your Talay,he along with a few pundits seem to think he is doing an okay job For him to keep starting he must be showing Talay something or be doing what he asks of him.Given the improvement being shown by the team considering where we have come from im glad its him making the decisions and not some of the posters on hear.LOL

The one thing Sotirio has over Appiah is that he seems to be consistently finding assists - if he can keep doing that, then it's hard to bench him. He's probably the best crosser in the team.

Sotirio also quite clearly has something that no one else in our attacking 3rd does - pace; this is important to drive their defensive line back and to just generally worry them a bit more. He's always going to be a frustrating player, but he's doing a job.

Agreed.  Early on I was going to nominate him for the Scapegoat of the New Season but I would say he has signs of being really handy, fast and while not a finisher then a decent provider. Plus he seems bulletproof.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

but does Josh offer more than McCowatt or Waine? id like to see Waine offered the same chances tbh as he is clearly more skillfull and arguably just as quick.

My biggest fear is that we have another Rojas/Boyd situation developing.

But you do have to wonder if maybe McCowatt and Piscopo ought to both be starting because we’ve seen a lot of Jaushua Sotirio so far and it’s not quite clicking. It’s the same old story every time, this dude looks fantastic in the build up and then he gets into the penalty area and forgets how to play footy. Poetically he almost won a penalty but of course it turned out the contact was made outside the area because it’s Sotirio so of course it was – he’d have already bundled it out for a goal kick otherwise. It was that one on one he wasted in the first half though, that was the infuriating one. He didn’t even look like scoring

McCowatt doesn't have that kind of pace. And while Waine is quick, he may not be up to it physically over 90 minutes. Sotirio fills a role in Talay's system, and while he can be frustrating, he isn't doing anywhere near as badly as some are making it out. The case in point is his miss from last night, which while not great, wasn't really worse than Piscopo's in the first minute, but noone is wanting to lynch him for it. Coincidentally, it was Sotirio who provided the cross for that chance.

Sotorio also missed a failry good heading opportunity and has missed other good chances over the start of the season.

He had his best game of the season last night. Worked hard and made some good things happen, but if he is going to play up top he needs to have a better final product.

He isnt the only one missing chances but for scapegoat reason seems the only one being focused on.As elgrap said he isnt going as badly as some make out and i prefer the gaffers call on thse things.

One thing that really concerns me is that with Sotirio's performances getting appreciated more widely, we are really struggling for a scapegoat. I thought Ball might emerge as a candidate, but he went and put in a(nother) good performance and capped it off with GOAL!

This lack of a scapegoat could be a real gap in the team. I'm not sure how we will manage.

I know, I know, its serious!

Lols

He's doing more defending than Vinnie Lia did and getting assists.

What's not to like.

Runs all day and managed to square it to a team mate on the penalty spot, where all others were shooting from outside the box. Thought it was a good game for him. He's not Roy, but Roy missed a lot too- it's just we created more and he scored some of them.
