Depends how much he wanted. But yeah, I think he would make the starting lineup or at least be in contention so its worth sounding him out. Similar to Boyd but with more track record of scoring. Would probably mean Krishna would not be retained and may even depend on whether Ifill makes it back.

Might even be able to get Melbourne to top up his salary.

Whoops, I misread their tweet. They are saying the player wants out of his contract, not the club. Hopefully Kosta is wanting out, so he can join us.

Our training facilities aren't good enough. Allegedly.

Our new home in Petone would probably have custom built deadicated facility.

Maybe he wants out because another club is interested, and they ain't us.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Hearing Team Wellington's Irish defender Shaun Timmins may be signed as injury cover by Wgtn Phoenix early this week #aleague

Ex- Redditch FC in UK Southern League (played for them last year). In the same div but lower than the St Albans team I saw playing at home last September, who were very poor on the day. ( I think St Albans crashed out of FA Cup 7-0 to Mansfield Town of the Conference).

So we are about to sign a guy who played for a worse team than one that lost 7-0 to Mansfield Town? Wow...
I will hold my judgments until I see the guy play, but to be honest, that's not the best line on your footballing C.V.

depends how you sell it

"Hi guys, I played in the Solomon Islands team that thrashed poorly prepared All Whites, interested?"

"sure, welcome on board, we could use someone of that calibre"

Kosta >> Brockie, Boyd, Krishna. Would take him.

We need to have faith in the players we have, they may surprise

poorly prepared by playing professional footy most weeks (and Tim Myers)?

James is still unattached. Worth an injury cover contract imo

We didn't actually lose to the Solomons either.

I know this probably just comes up when the All Whites play but surely a loan move for Tim Payne and/or Cam Howieson wouldn't be the worst idea for all parties.

*I've yet to see last nights game as it was a bit late for me so will catch it when I get home.*

How did Payne look as a DM for 90 mins against a technically proficient Japan side? Its all good to say 'we should make a move for Payne' but if he is not good enough, he just comes and sits on a bench over here instead of playing reserve football over there.

So I guess the questions are, how was he (?) and would he be a permanent fixture in a Phoenix starting team (?) because if he is not going to be, then I don't think we should make that move.

Would he be the one to play along side Riera in the Vince Lia role and eventually move into that DM role?

I think he was good. We did get overwhelmed in midfield a few times but it would be harsh to blame that on him, more just the shape of the team and some poor positioning from his teammates. I haven't seen a lot of him but I'd say from what I've seen that he's already at a level where he could be a decent A League DM, and in a few years good well be a very good one. I think he'd complement Riera nicely.

This. I think he'd be perfect alongside Riera. Just not on his own like last night.

Payne, unlike Riera, has pace to burn and they share similar committment and awareness. Even better, his best years are ahead of him.

thought Payne was great last night, if he is just riding pine overseas, a short loan would be great. maybe line it up for the start of the next  season. but hes not normally a DM is he?

I believe so. Converted striker.

Right well in that case (and every one has given the tick) you have to wonder why the club are not looking at him etc (or my assumption they are not/have not). Maybe he has a contract that is restrictive but I think that for $85k as a starter (I have no idea what he gets in the UK) he would probably come back and be a quality addition to the side and he could map out his career for the next 10-12 years.

I never know what goes on in the back rooms of the club but on some players, I would dearly love to and just be able to say 'you need to seriously make an effort at looking at this guy'

According to wiki signed a 2.5 yr deal in Jan 2012, so would be up for a contract mid year.... interesting

06 Mar 02:16

You would think he would be a mug to resign and continue playing u21 football. Surely you would want to go find first team football somewhere

Maybe he should talk to Chris James about that. He got offered another year by Fulham but said no and tried to get a full time gig which resulted in injuries loss of form, clubless etc.

Sometimes the known is better, especially if he feels he can crack the first team eventually.

He seemed pretty solid the other night, so clearly being in the u21's hasn't hampered him too much thus far.

James didn't have the Nix as a fallback option then.

Payne got a squad number at the end of last season but not this season and hasn't had a loan move yet. Not sure what his future will be at Rovers but its a real possibility he could be available next season.

Well then someone should get in touch and say to get his ass to Welly for a trial. I have heard a rumour that Sam Burfoot is trialling at the Phoenix very soon.

This is getting a bit silly. It's about time the Nix and ACFC had a proper financial arrangement sorted out.

Why? So its fair for you guys to have the best players in the country but the instant someone else wants them for higher honours, its not fair?

Come on mate. I know you guys like a bait, hook and wind up but if you are getting your knickers in a twist over it, perhaps consider sharing your talent about to teams less fortunate as yours. You've had Kiwis players stowed away while Ramon has been around playing continentals that would walk into any other franchise.

ACFC are experts at financial arrangements of course :)

Seems we're already sharing them with the Nix.

I see where you are coming from, but I also don't see anyone going 'no thanks, I'd rather stay at ACFC'

Ivan is a good example but when he came back, he was looking to get away from the toils of pro football and spend more time with family. Otherwise he would have stayed on in Holland so I'm not sure that's really a mark in the ACFC column

I'd also hazard a guess that he probably gets more at ACFC for less effort put in #brownenvelopes

Coombes, Mulligan, McGeorge, Hogg all to waitak. Milos to WaiBOP.

Would you want any of those players back?

07 Mar 01:47

Personally, no. But if Burfoot goes next, I'd like Riera back. Nix can keep Krishna. And maybe take Irving as a swap for Siggy. Be good to see him back in the Kiwitea clubrooms.

So losing those players was not really a great loss or anything (which is what I was ultimately getting at)

Burfoot is a talent and I rate him. I suspect he wont be here long (even if he does not catch on at the Phoenix) cause he has talent to play at a level higher than here and he is young. Krishna has been exposed as being just a flat track bully. If he was lighting it up at training, he would be getting a run every game for the full 90.

I think its unlikely you see Riera back until he has explored this pro football thing. I suspect the Phoenix may hold him for a while or he gets a better offer in AU cause he has been that good (and I raise my hand as being a serious doubter)

Irving has not stood out for me as much as I thought he would in the ASBP. The import slots are also jammed at the Phoenix and we have a returning RB and capable deputy.

Agreed, this seems pretty obvious now given how depleted the squad is.
