Yes good point, but I wonder how much the pay stand down may have affected the Glory moral and motivation.

Chinaese has been rumoured to move to asia and there have been Castro rumours like you mentioned. Very little news out of Glory of late.

I think we should be confident of beating a Castro-less Glory at a neutral venue

Although it improves our chances they do still have some scary attackers... Ikonomidis, Fornaroli etc

With all the other clubs in the league losing players - and starters at that - our chances of winning the league keep getting better. If we manage to finish our final 6 games and take max points from 4 of them (I'm hoping for a draw against Sydney and maybe  against Perth) we could finish on 50 points, which should seal second for us. It looks like Sydney are the only other team who have avoided any significant player losses at this stage.

Ikonomidis is still rehabbing his injury.

City have announced Susaeta has returned home now.

Yeah, Perth were the first team to stand-down players without pay and also asking marquees for an 80% paycut (which a lot of teams are doing, wonder if the Phoenix are the same?), that has to play with their heads somewhat, even if it's them thinking that they will do what's best for them individulally on the field rather than the team because of the lack of loyalty shown.

You can never write off anyone in the A-League but the odds are definitely in us and Sydney's favor. As far as I'm aware we're the only team that allowed players to return home to their families and then fly them back, there's a special sort of team unity at play.

All moot if Sydney locks down though.

"A-League broadcaster Fox Sports reported that Castro was touring Western Australia state in a campervan with his family and had not been in contact with the club for some time."

Castro has gone walkabout

Qld hub back-up plan for A-League

https://www.ftbl.com.au/news/qld-hub-back-up-plan-for-a-league-550474

The FFA is keeping its options open ahead of Friday's resumption of the A-League season with a Queensland hub being considered as a 'Plan B' if Sydney's COVID-19 outbreak deepens.

He was doing media in Melbourne a couple weeks back & pushing for the league to continue without going into a NSW Hub. Guess he decided to leave once they were forced to hub up.

Far out, the VAR got longer than Tim Payne!

By the sounds of it the FFA cant afford to keep VAR for the rest of the season.

VAR......what is it good for?......absolutely nothing.

Good news IMO. It will be an interesting experiment going back to Var-less football. We will see if anyone misses it. I for one don’t mind putting up with the occasional referee error for the sake of the game going back to its normal flow. VAR was sold to us to eliminate the huge errors....instead it became intrusive refereeing by video. A-league refs are largely incompetent. A-League VAR officials were just as bad.

When you see the playing schedule for the next month you really do wonder how the players will cope. I would expect plenty of injuries as the players are not exactly match fit and will have very little recovery time. The finalists might just be those squads who can keep their best players fit until the end. It will certainly test squad depth. The Nix appear to have one of the most settled squads. Everyone is back and they will need every one of them. It will be interesting to see how Uffie manages his squad.

it will be interesting to see how quick the fans start complaining about calls the VAR would have picked up ie goals from off sides.

Talay has stated he will rotate the squad. If we can secure 2nd spot early on it would help greatly.

Think you might have all seen this but confirming that they will allow the extra subs and no VAR.

"In line with the options provided by FIFA and IFAB and announced by FFA circular in May 2020, we will be allowing teams to have up to five (5) substitutes per match and will also be temporarily suspending the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR)"

I just wish the lack of VAR was because of a change of philosophy, not a change in budget.  I expect them to do everything they can to have it back for the finals sadly.

I reckon we should offer VAR a short term contract as a replacement cover for Tim Payne.
