Fudge the disease ridden Tards! The league is better off without them! I will be furious if the competition is cancelled because members of their squads test positive to Covid-19.

Rumours going around that they have to quarantine for two weeks (expected) and can't train during that time (very unexpected). If the latter is true it's surely the final nail in the coffin for the season.

Believe players with residences in OG lockdown postcodes that didn't attempt to travel to travel with the sides last night have received exemptions and are travelling with everyone else.

Surely they now need to quarantine or like you said they are putting the whole A league comp at risk of being cancelled. Especially when you consider that the Nix had to quartine for 14 days even tho they were coming from a covid free area.

For some reason the ACT has become involved in this mess

They had been led to believe that a partial exemption had been granted and that if they based themselves in Canberra for a few days, trained and maintained fitness there the full exemption would be granted and they could then move to the hub in NSW.

But that was before they were told by ACT officials that they would have to spend a fortnight in quarantine.

NSW deputy premier John Barilaro on Tuesday gave every indication that the clubs would get the exemptions they are seeking.

"I think we have got to work with the FFA and I will be reaching out to the FFA and seeing what support they need," he told SBS.

"If we have got an opportunity to do so let's bring them [the Victorian clubs] across the border, let's park them in the regions or in the city and make sure they are part of the A-League that kicks off shortly."

how are FFA to blame for Melburnians spreading the virus. It could have been any state to be fair.  If it was NSW the whole comp would be off. They were working on the assumption all states would be fine but to bring in Perth Phoenix and Adelaide. They had a plan B but the outbreak in Melbourne came at just the wrong time.

Not at all NRL AFL and Super Cars all got out. Most certainly spotlight should go on FFAs handling of it. They must be the only ones who couldnt see some sort of lockdown coming. Not sure why the assumption was made that  the FFA  were blamed for the spread.

If I heard right the exemption allows them to cross the border and go into 14 day hotel isolation. No Training

The issue seems to be with the escape route of the three teams. The borders between NSW and VIC are now closed so the FFA has been attempting to get the teams via air into Canberra. The authorities in the ACT has said yep thats all sweet but you'll have to isolate for 14 days like everyone else.

The NSW government have said they will do everything within their powers to get the teams across the border. Also, the lockdown in Victoria was moved forward by 24hrs which caught out the FFA so i'm not sure their incompetence is entirely to blame here.

The escape route is not the issue. The attempt was made yesterday to go to ACT, stay a couple of days there, and then move to NSW in the hope of avoiding the quarantine requirement (since they'd be arriving from ACT rather than Vic). That got scuppered when ACT said nah, if you want to come here you'll have to quarantine for 14 days. So that led to the second aborted attempt.

Now the focus is back on getting an exemption from NSW authorities to enter the state and skip the quarantine requirements. I don't think they'll have any issues getting the exemption to enter the state, but the quarantine and whether they'd be able to train during it will be the sticking points.

Also, this has nothing to do with the Victorian lockdown, but NSW border closure with Vic. The border closure, when announced, stated that the border would be closed to travel from 'hotspots' from that midnight and the rest of Victoria the following midnight. It may be that the FFA may have misinterpreted 'hotspots' as postal codes in Melbourne in lockdown at the time, when NSW actually meant the entire city of Melbourne. Regardless, you had to be a blind imbecile not to see this coming - Queensland closed their border to Vic this time last week and it should have been obvious then that the closure of border with NSW was a distinct possibility and the FFA should have told the three teams to move to NSW then and none of this would have been an issue. As Ballane said, all the other sporting codes in Victoria read the situation correctly and got out of state smartly, only the A-league clubs sat on their arse until the border closure practically smacked them in the face.

This is the best summary of the situation I've seen ^^^.

I believe the planned flight to Canberra was because there are additional restrictions on how many people can fly into NSW at present, so the plan was to get as close as possible and bus the rest of the way.

Loving every word of this one:

Latest:

https://www.foxsports.com.au/f...

EXCLUSIVE: Roadblock for A-League restart as bitter rivals forced to share budget campThe long wait to cross the border into NSW will finally end for at least two of Victoria’s three A-League clubs on Friday — but tournament organisers are facing a scheduling nightmare that poses a roadblock to next week’s planned restart.

Fox Sports understands both Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory will fly into Sydney at 10am on Friday, pending NSW government exemptions, before likely going into a mandatory quarantine for 14 days.

The rival camps will share budget accommodation and sleep in bunkbeds at a training base on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

While it poses significant challenges for schedule makers, the A-League remains hopeful the season can still resume on July 16 as originally planned if things fall their way.

Both clubs will train and be housed at the Sports Academy in Narrabeen, with players likely staying in bunk beds given the facility’s rudimentary set-up.

The Sports Academy is the same venue where NRL club the Manly Sea Eagles train.

It has been a mad and often farcical scramble for Victoria’s three clubs to cross the border into NSW over the past week, with two flights into Canberra scrapped at the last moment.

After the NSW government announced it was shutting borders to Victoria from Tuesday midnight and Monday midnight for Melbourne residents, Victoria’s three clubs booked a late flight to Canberra only for low visibility in the nation’s capital to see the trip scuppered on Monday.

The following night another trip to Canberra was cancelled after the ACT government informed them they would need to quarantine for 14 days without training if they touched down in the nation’s capital.

Fox Sports has sought comment from FFA.

Is that the same place The Nix did there first quarantine stint. The place of the golf buggy fame.

If its good enough for the Nix then why is it not good enough for City and Vic.

If the Melbourne teams leave today, I think that is 3 fixtures that need to be rearranged. I wonder if they will bring the Sydney vs Phoenix game forward to next Thursday night now?

I doubt it, surely they will only rearrange as few fixtures as possible. Although of course we know that Nix fixtures can be reschedded for minimal reason, bu they are playing Sydney, so that should be some protection.

With all the other clubs in the league losing players - and starters at that - our chances of winning the league keep getting better. If we manage to finish our final 6 games and take max points from 4 of them (I'm hoping for a draw against Sydney and maybe  against Perth) we could finish on 50 points, which should seal second for us. It looks like Sydney are the only other team who have avoided any significant player losses at this stage.

If I'm honest, I don't like our chances against Sydney but I think we'll take something at least of Perth

My take is yes I think Sydney are going to be hard to beat first up. but we should go close to winning 4 of our 6 games.

I believe Sydney, and Mel City also have a full roster and look settled. Although City captain, Jamieson's wife is 8 months pregnant so that must be unsettling.

These two team and us would have to be in the favourites category I would have thought. Brisbane and Newcastle as outsiders for me.

I do think that without Fowler Brisbane will probably fall off a cliff. Kind of sad given the great run of form they had leading up to the break...
