Thought I'd start a new thread for pre-season chat other than the Football United Tour.

Stumbled across this article that reckons we're looking at visiting Indonesia at some point during the pre-season. Translation is dodgy at best but the jist of it is we've asked Arema Indonesia Cronus for a friendly and they're keen.

Indonesian Sauce

"Arema Indonesia Cronus as one of the team top of the board in Indonesia, it seems that many attract the clubs mancaranegara to make a friendly match. Now one of the League Australia, Wellington Phoenix interested to experiment Crazy Lion with. Indonesian Super League Competition (, ISL) this season is indeed, many a holiday. But that not make Arema concerned in making an agenda for keeping the player condition. Crazy Lion team have Now offer interesting from the contestant Wellington Phoenix, one of the contestants League Australia. The team that is headquartered in New Zealand was the plan will come to the Kanjuruhan Stadion. In his confirmation General Manager Arema Cronus, Ruddy Widodo said that if the club nicknamed The Nix, who put forward the offer trial match to Arema. Ruddy Widodo also explained that if between Arema Cronus with the management Wellington Phoenix has also been there was no agreement. But the agreement is still orally, it means that there was not a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ."

Heard New Caledonia and Indonesia are being looked at.

You sure you heard correctly?
More like it will be played at the Caledonian Ground in Dunedin!

Meanwhile, the Phoenix have pulled the pin on a proposed pre-season tour to Indonesia.

Dome said negotiations had fallen over and the pre-season was now likely to revolve around games against four or five A-League opponents.

That stand and running track have really destroyed that lovely green space.

Wouldn't have happened if it was my back yard.

The irony is, if Wikipedia is to be believed, is that the original Caledonian Ground is now a shopping centre car park!

Went for a drive through Petone yesterday. How can the nimby's complain? There's so many businesses in and amongst the residential area it's not funny. It's even more industrialised than I thought.

So what would be the best paper plane design to use on those "Go Nix" signs that were handed out last season?

First day back training for the team today, hope Gorrin doesn't expect the weather to be like this every day.

They did skin folds, medical screenings, yoyo test, jump test today. They might get to see a football tomorrow afternoon.

Me too, that was what held me back from playing for New Zealand at the 82 World Cup.

Not sure where to put this so this thread seemed the best spot..

Was at a Mariners fans forum last night and they explained a concept they tried late last year with one club and have decided to expand the idea to all CC park teams … all Northern Beaches teams from Sydney and at least one other associations park teams in Northern Sydney…

The concept is to give the park teams the right to sell tickets to Mariner home matches at BT, North Sydney Oval & Brookvale Oval… in return the park teams will receive a commission on each ticket sold… the team used by the Mariners was “”‘low hanging fruit”"” the players and their parents are interested in the game… the committee members of the park teams are normally football folk… thus reward the park teams for promoting football…

I think its brilliant … wonders aloud what YF thinks and could it work in Wellie …

Yeah I've put it forward as an idea fairly recently. Focused mostly on partnerships with businesses being sellers of tickets as a package, but clubs works too. Though its a bit harder with clubs as they're active during winter, and A league is in the summer. Could be an idea for season memberships in the future though.

Clubs are more likely to be interested, but it's preaching to the converted.

Businesses on the other hand have the advantage of "untapped potential" and are full of eggball followers.

Thorny, high-hanging fruit.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

The converted are not regular A-league attendees (very few are) so it's a good idea for mine, especially for clubs wanting to raise funds to pay for more youth development coaches. Allegedly.

Maybe not that converted.

I've found that when I push for special games (last one was AW vs Mexico) I only get a few takers.  For the FUT game I got zero interest.  The better teams have a greater uptake.

I'm interested to hear what Gorrin looks like in training... does he look the goods?

Meanwhile, Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick was impressed with his first look at new recruit Alejandro Gorrin yesterday.

"He can attack, defend or create, he's always available," Merrick said.

"His passing ability is first-class so we're really happy with him.

Hate to alarm anyone, but someone actually posted a potential midfield with the possibility of Vince Lia not starting. I'm confused.
