I will be interested to see if the 3 players drop down from the Wairarapa Central League to the seconds, as the firsts not playing this weekend. Also being a top of the table clash.

No.  They were scheduled to play Upper Hutt at Howard Booth Park on Sunday.  But with the Upper Hutt club and players already due to have this weekend off because of the original Palmy Marist v Wairarapa united Chatham cup game, the Upper Hutt lads have already scheduled something else.  I suppose they weren't to know WU would be out of the cup through other means.

Planned Fixtures for this weekend.

Marist vs Petone Armanis

Wainuiomata vs Masterton

Greytown vs North Wellington

Petone vs Karori

Vic Uni vs Waiarapa

Big game on Wakefield 2 between Uni and Rapa can't pick this one so might be a draw. Think Marist are playing well at the moment so backing them to beat Armanis. Masterton will be too strong for Wainui. Greytown to beat bottom of table North Wellington. Karori to beat the younger guys of Petone on the Turf, hopefully by a big margin to improve their goal-difference.

Incorrect, incorrect, correct, incorrect, incorrect

I think the main surprise was the 5-1 loss inflicted on Wairarapa united by Uni on the turf at Wakefeild. We travelled into that game after beating Wainui, and I didn't pick that result. University played really well, and thoroughly deserved the result. Completely perplexed by the coaching staff from Wairarapa united choosing to use Brian Kaltak up front, instead of his specialised centre back roll. Especially when the game started to slip out of their hands. He done nothing for them up front, and they would of been better off to re-jig the back line, shore up the defence, and worry about keeping Uni out. Obviously their plan didn't work.

There were a few surprises. We were 3 nil at half time against petone managed to get 3 goals back and could have got a fourth near the end. Definitely a game of two halves.

The only game I got correct was Masterton winning.

Yea it was a good game. We were obviously disappointed to let 3-0 lead slip. But your guys fought back well.
Don't forget, we did score a legitimate 4th in the second half - there was no way he was offside!

How bad was the ref!!

Easily the worst refereeing desplay I have seen.  Not even biased to either team, just terrible!  At one point he tried to play advantage from a throw in!  He even admitted that he knew the ball went out but let it go to see if there was an advantage and then pulled it back!

Had to laugh in the end but at times it really broke up what was a good contest.

From my vantage point of being 40 yards away from petone's 4th goal it was a mile offside ;-) and a hand ball.

I thought one of his best calls was the handball. When our guy picked the ball up to take the free kick!
Lucky he didn't give a pen there, because he probably was inside the box when he picked it up

Yea, he wasn't biased, just terrible - equally bad for both teams.
And that throw in call was pathetic - its either in or out. You don't play advantage on that!

Games this weekend

Karori vs North Wellington

Masterton vs Vic Uni

Armanis vs Greytown

Wairarapa vs Marist

Petone vs Wainuiomata

For me the big game is Masterton against Uni. Im hoping Masterton perform as well as they did against Karori at KP and beat Uni. Karori should beat North Wellington comfortably. Hopefully Wairarapa and Armanis drop points but think they are both too strong for their opposition and Petone (Young guys) should beat Wainuiomata.

Its getting close with the top four. Karori and Wairarapa both having games in hand over Uni and Armanis.

The top four battling for promotion, and at this stage all of the bottom 6 can still possibly be relegated!

I tend to agree. With our new midfield combination working well last weekend, and our back four pretty settled now, it will make for an interesting game. I don't think Wairarapa put their best formation out against Uni last week, but Uni did capitalise on their weaknesses, and played well enough to get the win. We are still without a home win this year and at training last night, everyone accepts it will be tough, but all are pumped to put in a good performance. She certainly is right at top and bottom, and all teams in the bottom can't afford to drop points. We will be up for it. Good luck everyone else.

Match report from the Marist v Armanis clash last weekend, featured in the Kilbirnie club's award winning Newsletter.

Having just taken the scalp of league leaders Vic Uni, the 2nd team were quietly confident of a repeat performance against high-flying Petone Armanis. Unfortunately the lads now find themselves in the middle of a relegation dog fight - the bottom six teams in Cap 3 are only separated by five points.

With naughty Nick back in the squad, the pre-match banter (most of which can't be repeated in a family newsletter) rarely left the gutter. The Kilbirnie Park curtain raiser produced an exceptionally cagey encounter, and chances were few and far between. The best opportunity of the first half fell to Roy, 'the tallest man in Peru' who found himself one-on-one with the keeper, but his effort was well saved.

The second half saw the visitors enjoy slightly more possession, but both keepers were virtual spectators. For the first time in his career, Salty managed to avoid a booking for dissent! Then in the 90th minute, just as it looked as if a hard-earned point had been secured, a long throw into the Marist box was allowed to bounce twice. The unmarked Petone striker could not believe his luck and gratefully accepted a snatch-and-grab result.

Man of the match went to the Rory, the Cork crackerjack, who covered every blade of grass and still had enough gas in the tank to pull off some impressive moves on the Electric Avenue dance floor (at 4am) following a successful Brazilian World Cup party at the club rooms!

A daunting trip away to 2nd top Wairarapa Utd awaits the 2nds, who were thumped 6-1 a couple of months ago. But the team has improved a lot since then, as there now seems to be a fantastic team spirit. A much tighter contest is on the cards in Masterton.

Well, a great performance put in by our lads to take it to the top of the table Uni side. Both teams played end to end footy, and a great through ball to one of the Uni guys had us 1 nil down going into half time. Our coach came in and suggested we lift our heads as he was very pleased with the performance in the first half. Some outstanding saves by both keepers kept the game at 1 nil until a defensive lapse by a Uni player, pushing one of our players as the ball was sailing into the box, this awarding us a penalty. Penalty well taken to bring the game to 1 all. A late flourish of cards saw the keeper from Uni and their captain yellow carded, and one of our midfielders receiving 2 yellows in 5 minutes, for him to have an early shower. Great determination by both teams, and honestly I think the draw was a fair result on the day.

We finally broke the shackles and produced a performance that has been coming for a while.

10-1 up over Wainui. Was good to score some goals. Almost makes up for our humiliating trip over to Wairarapa.

Fixtures this weekend

North Wellington vs Petone Armanis

Marist vs Masterton

Wainuomata vs Karori

Greytown vs Wairarapa

Vic Uni vs Petone

Armanis and Karori should both win their games. Marist vs Masterton would be tight may even be a draw. The Uni vs Petone game is hard to call but think with home field advantage Uni may have it. Wararapa should beat Greytown.

Your thoughts?

Interesting to see some strange results come out of the mid week games.  Especially with teams that have better teams above them.  I wouldnt of picked that result, and would of thought it would have been closer, but then thats the pleasure of having your whole club to choose from for the game.  Obviously Wainui didnt bring enough players down to help their cause.  But then again, maybe Wainui were just rubbish, and Petone were awesome.  Not at the game so I cant know....

From talking to someone who was there Wainui played some of their 1sts as allowed and played rubbish, Petone were just to good on the night and were clinical in front of goal.

I am not saying that you didn't. Just interesting result. And having the flexibility to drop players is great. I think well done, and things must of been bad for Wainui, and good for you. As said earlier, good to get back the goals conceded against Wairarapa.

Now that's just silly. Both teams are allowed 3 regraded players, and if you had 3 and they had 3, what's the issue. In all fairness, looking at the score, they should of used 3, all at the same time, on top of their original 11. Might of been closer if they had 14 and you guys had 11

Hearing ya there. We have Marist at Kilbernie Park. Early game, so more beerzies on the road trip home. Marist will be tough at home, and considering they only lost 2-1 to Wairarapa last weekend. We will try and continue our little lift in form and press on from taking points off top of the table University. We have a couple out due to work and suspension, but should come through ok. All the best to all playing this weekend

Not saying much considering both teams in the bottom 2 of their respective leagues

So you mean that because your firsts are struggling with injuries etc, that the seconds are playing firsts? Or is it the other way round?

For a start its not "my" club.

And yes, their 1st are struggling with injuires so the 2nds are playing 1st and whoever they can dig up are playing in the cap 3 team.

I hav'nt heard them making excuses about it but its hard being a smallish club.

Petone 2-1 over Marist.
Another good win from our boys.

Since our thrashing at Wairarapa we have been unbeaten with 3 wins and a draw.
Good to see Armanis keeping pressure on at the top of the table too.

Was a good game nice and competitive across the whole park, We took our chances well early on and scored twice within about ten minutes which put the pressure on Karori and we defended stoutly through to halfway through the second half when we sealed it with what turned out to be our 700th goal as a team over ten years which was a nice little milestone!  Now just need some help to roll Uni and Rapa!!

Wairarapa scraped past North Wellington 2-1.

WU scored first, and had a majority of possession for the whole game, until about 10 to go and North Wellington scored. They seemed to sit back a bit and united came at them, and with a great save from the north Wellington keeper from the first shot, only to have a bit of a scramble in the box and united scored again.
