And there you have it. Uni, Greytown, us and Armanis. Now for Wairarapa and it will be 5 from 5

Poor performance by the cougars, 3 one on ones resulting in 3 goals. Strange that the guy who scored a hat trick didn't get man of the match for Masterton.

We take the considerations of man of the match on performance that changed the game. Ok scoring a hatrick changed the game, but it was the two outside backs for us who made the difference on the day. And one of them got the player of the day. And just in case you are wondering, Wairarapa United 2nds leading Petone 8 nil at half time. So that's a perfect 5 out of 5 for my predictions.

It's not classified as a step down if you return to your original team. So not sure.

Fair point. Didn't see that far down the pitch. Was a bit frustrated at the guy who put 3 past me.

Going to be tough to catch Wairarapa and Uni now.

12 nil against Wainui or NW I could understand. But I didn't think Petone were that bad!

NW just didn't want to be there on Saturday. Strange game really. Big shock at Karori Park now gives us a bit of breathing space. The table on the CF website seems to have a glitch though, the 'Rapa are only a point in front with two draws instead of one.

Huuuuge game on Karori 2 this weekend.

Petone had half their team missing.  As do most teams who travel over on the Sunday, be interesting to see how they would be going if rapa played on a Saturday like everyone else!  If you go to results after Round 18 on the website you get the full picture.

I don't know why they get the privilege of playing on Sundays. Greytown and Masterton don't.

Probably requested due to being a reserve team.

The home team always gets the option of choosing playing days. Us and Greytown could have easily played on Sundays, but we do to support the club in general. Also the Wairarapa 1sts play home games on Sundays too, so it does give the swapping and support from both teams easier. Wairarapa 2nds have drawn 2 games this year, 1 against petone 4-4 and 1 against Uni 1-1.  I have an up to date points table that I have made myself as it is too confusing to get it off Capital website.  Probably the result last weekend for us against Wai was an indication of what they can play like without centre mid players in Mirek, and Aaron Speirling.

Wairarapa seconds were clinical in their finishing yesterday, and with Aaron and Mirek both playing Central league most of the time (as they did on Saturday against Petone, it doesn't really seem fair, but that's the issue you have when your second team plays 4 grades below your top team. We all don't have the flexibility to move players like they do.

We will be struggling against them in the second round, as it will be on a Sunday, as our squad has 4 Dutch players who don't play on Sundays, including the one that scored the hatrick against Karori on the weekend.

Is that a Wairarapa thing? Because in my time involved in club management I've never been asked if we'd prefer playing on Sunday. Quite possible the onus is on us to ask.

When we played them they had a handy centre back (who was quite possibly Mirek playing back), but couldn't finish to save themselves. The return fixture will be a battle royale.

It's a shame the Cap Soccer table is so useless. The website is a huge step up generally.

As far as i am aware, all clubs get asked to submit their playing day at the start of the season.  We have been asked at the start of every season so far.  Last year, WU firsts played on Saturdays and the 2nds played on Sundays.  This didnt work too good for the support of the 1sts as everyone was playing footy on a Saturday, So they changed it for the benefit of the public.  Generally the draw worked in their favour, with the 1sts away on a Saturday, and the 2nds at home on the sunday.  And vice versa. We played them at home on a Saturday when the 1sts played Olympic at home on the same day due to the long weekend.  This obviously worked in our favour somewhat. Mirek is the defensive midfielder, who slots in at the back from time to time.  He is from the Checq Republic and has a distinctive accent.  You would know who he is once you hear him speak.  He is doing wonders for the 2nds, and he also runs the Wairarapa United Academy, which goes around to all the schools teaching children how to play footy.

He definitely played against us then. Was their best on the park. Better to have him in the backline though from an opposition's perspective.

Re playing days, interesting. Something to consider for next season.

I thought the only reason teams played on a sun instead of sat was if they were sharing a ground.  Didnt Olympic used to play on a Sunday because they shared with Island Bay at Wakefield Park?

Draw (hopefully), Masterton, Greytown, Uni, Petone.

Dropping players down is bullshit, but unfortunately a reality. I wouldn't be surprised if I barely recognise any of the Marist boys from the last encounter. Hopefully the weather is better this time.

Can comfortably say that the Marist team won't be a total difference.

We have two of our classy second team playmakers out thru injury (striker and central midfielder). And the players we plan on giving game time to are a defender coming back from injury and a midfielder who has splinters on his bum from the bench for the first team. And from what I understand from our student players Vic are hardly saints when it comes to dropping players...

Brian Kaltak played half a game, to which this was his first outing for the club.  Trying to get his way into the first team, and by playing footy, it will help.  He came of the bench for the firsts against Napier City on Sunday.  All clubs provide a level of footy for players to start at, then move on.  No difference here, whether he is an international player or not.  We played WU with a player that had started at Central league and got injured, then played for the 2nds, and we didnt complain.  He scored the winner too.  Its just the way it is.
Surprising result out of the game between Marist and Uni last night.  Anyone care to comment on this game???

Uni controlled  most of the game and created numerous opportunity's, just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net.  Disappointing result but well done to Marist, they managed to keep themselves in the game long enough, snagged a goal and hung on.

I agree with this summary, and cheers for the congrats. After being thumped 4-0 in our (Marist) first clash with Uni, we knew we had to work a lot harder to take anything out of the game. Uni are a quality side, who knock the ball around nicely, and they certainly enjoyed the bulk of possession and chances. But, I thought Marist defended well as a unit. The lads are buzzing - shame about Saturday's weather forecast.

Planned Fixtures for this weekend.

Marist vs Petone Armanis

Wainuiomata vs Masterton

Greytown vs North Wellington

Petone vs Karori

Vic Uni vs Waiarapa

Big game on Wakefield 2 between Uni and Rapa can't pick this one so might be a draw. Think Marist are playing well at the moment so backing them to beat Armanis. Masterton will be too strong for Wainui. Greytown to beat bottom of table North Wellington. Karori to beat the younger guys of Petone on the Turf, hopefully by a big margin to improve their goal-difference.

Same Marist that beat Uni last week?
If it is at Kilbirnie still, could be a real leveler
