Congratulations to Hard News, who last night achieved his 1st Top Gun in World of Tanks by destroying 7 enemy tanks (Tog gun is 6 or more), not bad for someone just starting out. During his frenzy of destruction he also managed to shoot me, but I survived and managed to kill steal the last 2 tanks- we cant have the new blokes getting too far above their station.

Backed it up with an 1181 Experience battle a couple of games later.

Sat on the the top of the hill in El Halluf and popped up and down pinging shots and spotting things everywhere.

You b*stards, this is a stupidly addictive game, played about 6 times, just got my first 2 kills in one match. T1 Cunningham ftw

I'm loving the T2 light that comes after the Cunningham currently.  I carried my side in the T2 this morning.  Five kills and the full cap.  Would have been 6 but their last tank ran for our base once I started capping instead of looking for a fight.

When I can't get a win in the higher tiers and they are doing my head in I get out the T2 ot the T18 and platoon with Junior News or one of his mates and shoot all my worries away.  I was locked for a Top Gun yesterday in the T2 and my internet connection died.  Had 5 kills and two more lined up when it froze.  Came back five minutes later to a smoking corpse.

Likewise had 3 and lined up a 4th in my Churchill and it died.  Touch wood it's been fine since then.

Would be cool to do some of that stuff.

I spent $5 to get some gold for a couple more tanks slots yesterday. Not sure if worth it, but meh.

I acquired some gold from a source, then got another $10 worth myself.

Mainly for equipment and to drop an elite crew straight into my T40 (oh, and a churchill :-)  .  I also got the T40 a paint job.  I may get it all three paint jobs in the coming days.

Just got into artillery and have upgraded my Sturmpanzer to a Sturmpanzer II

Artillery definitely seems to be the "drummer" of the WOT's group as you have to be bonkers to to use it. Great at long range, but if your teammates don't offer you some protection you are screwed. Far too many glory boys who lose missions by charging off and leaving the Arties exposed.

If I'm playing as a tank I usually stay behind to protect them. I'm assuming this is a reasonable strategy?

It is, but some people will whine that you are 'camping'.

I toyed with Artillery in the US line.  The T57 was fun but the M37 did my head in. It's just too slow to reload and you never get cover so last night I sold it and bought an SU-76 with the idea of heading for the SU85 and the T34.

Good arty drivers though are worth every cent they spend on equipment.

Of course I am very much a TD driver these days.  I have the T57, an M2 light and a Chrichill V and other than that the other 5 are TDs.

Nothing compares to the T40 though.  Should try and get a shot of dbart and mine with our (non-matching) camo schemes.  Our mentor eschews such luxuries as he fights his 14,750th battle in a T40.

I've played a fair amount of pvp in WOW, Warhammer Online, Diablo 2 and Rift so I don't see this strategy as camping when you are protecting your own artillery from fast moving tanks. In this game there is a 99% that the base will be attacked at some point so it can't really be considered a safe place.

In WOW, Warhammer and Rift, you always had people to defend the base it's just sensible strategy and it tended to be the most unpopular job as you got less kills.

Those guys that sit off the edge of the maps are the real campers in WOT.

Mind you I guess there are slightly different opinions as to what camping is. I remember in the WOW Alterac Valley there used to be a place that a ranged toon could stand where you couldn't get hit. Or in Diablo 2, when Sorcs would camp the Waypoints. That's what I call camping, using a glitch, or strategic point to gain an unfair advantage.

If i wasn't contributing then I could understand it. Last night I took out 2 tanks wanting to wipe out my teams Bison. That was me against similar tanks. 1 on 1, I was lucky to survive as the first got a hit in and I'm pretty rubbish at fast-paced coordination and so tend to play support classes where your brain is more important than nifty keyboard skills.

If you are protecting arty, be one or two map squares in front of them - if youre behind them ,by the time youve detected the incoming scouts its too late, arty is lit up and youll only get one or 2 shots at the scout before theyre killing arty (not a bad thing if you ask me).

If you are playing as arty yourself -be aware of counter battery - in the top down mode, you will often see tracers from the enemy arty as they fire, so you can try some educated blind shots -you see it work every 2 or 3 matches. because they can also see you that way, fire then move.

I agree with Hard News -work your way to a T40 and join us.

Also-light tanks are vermin and should be killed immediately, no matter what

I'm similar with fast-paced co-ordination, had a couple last night which went better than normal but still died.

Three came at me by the south base on Karelia, killed two, clipped the third in my T18 when some other bastard appeared from the side.  Needless to say my team had all Lemminged up the other end and got smashed.

My platoon mates were sympathetic.  Oh. Hang on. No they weren't.

best low tier arty is the Russian SU26 -little turrerted machinegun of death.

If you guys are on tonight Id be happy to run a training room to help you improve your accuracy firing at moving tanks

Yeah I've figured out, keeping an eye out for hidden tanks/artillery through their fire.

I try and keep next to them as to protect their flank with my armor. As soon as I see an enemy tank I'm on to it.  Worked well around 3 times and failed horribly once. Will look up the T40.
