quite a lot hasn't been cancelled or postponed yet.

yet. Let's have some examples. There is no football, rugby, cricket, athletics or netball. Do you think maybe the government have instructed everything to stop? Lawn Bowls will soon announce a stop, for sure.

oh, and the cycling centre has just closed down.

ANZ Netball Champs and ASB Prem not cancelled yet. Stupid statement. Not withstanding NZF/Feds hadn't even made a decision then.

ANZ Netball now canned for at least 2 weeks. Bowls NZ have come to their senses and finally canned all community bowls. Swimming pools closed, in Auckland at least.

So what's still on, club golf?

Perish the thought of a parent not thinking school is a babysitting service & actually taking responsibility to look after the fruit of their loins. How novel.;-)

Which is why FFA & A League will be doing cart wheels if they can pull their plan off.

There is probably also a real opportunity to sell the A League into new world markets, if (a big if!) they can finish the season.

The whole world is now starved of live football.

People already know of the A League a little here in South America. Met a Uruguayan who knew all the various clubs (incl Nix) and of course Fornaroli.

Government release says: Australian citizens and permanent residents who normally live in New Zealand can still come to New Zealand.

And the article says the Phoenix are investigating what it means to the foreigners. You'd imagine our brits would prefer to stay in NZ than return to the UK at the moment.

my take is Taylor Ball Hooper Davila Steinman can't now enter NZ. My main worry is Davila cant even get back to Mexico. Doubt Oz will have a direct flight there and cant transition thru US. Then coaching staff. Do Greenie and Gothard have residency status? Oz citizens seem to have a choice as they can stay in Oz or come to NZ due to them being allowed to be classed as resident when they come here.

Greenie has been here for so long that he could not be on a work visa.  He has to be a PR by now, and would qualify for citizenship if he wanted to, much like Paul Ifill.

Maybe good as long as all the money dosnt go to Fox. Think we knew there were other motives for trying to get the season finished

David Squires is great. I look forward to both his cartoons every week: one on British football and one on the A-League.

Keep safe everybody.

Strange thing: I went to the supermarket last night and there was no muesli. Muesli? Am I missing something?

Talking of shortages, have a look at this Squires' offering -

Yeah I went to the supermarket and there was heaps of toilet paper but no pasta. I suspect we're seeing supply chain issues rather than panic buying in those cases.

Last Saturday a cruise liner called into Wellington and 1700+ people went into the city. It’s back in Sydney now and a bunch of people on board have tested positive for Coronavirus. Cruise liners should have been banned weeks ago. People arriving on a plane have to quarantine for 14 days.  It’s madness.

Apparently the ship had Health dept clearance. How do they clear 3000 people on a ship? “Anyone with corona virus put your hand up...OK, sweet, you can go ashore now” Cruise liners have been a massive global problem for corona infections. They are floating Petri dishes for the virus. OK they are banned now but for Wellington it’s way too late now.

Maybe the Nix management did their risk calculations after that weekend

When I saw the restrictions on non kiwis or non residents my first thought was about people at my work and if we currently have anyone on a work visa who is travelling or outside of the country.
My second thought was - what about our imports and aussies???

the spike is on more cases every day and now being said community transmission is a possibility though they have to check on the people who have it without travelling and try to find out if anyone they know or been in contact with has travelled, good luck people look after yourselves as you are the only ones that can.

My uncle's a professor in Psychology at Newcastle University (UK). They've done a survey to best understand how to deal with the uncertainty around the Corona Virus, especially as it may help should something similar happen in the future.

If you have time, please assist them by completing the survey (it could take up to 30mins): https://nclpsych.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6eVzW1LS9qumXjL

sorry? I dont see your point. All the data at the moment clearly indicates that kids under 14 have not been widely infected.

I've just completed the survey.

I would urge anyone to do it as it provides an insight into one's current state of mind.

10 minutes but then I love surveys.

If kids aren't in school then people aren't at work, that includes doctors and nurses and other health care professionals.

Sadly I agree seems there is more coming some a little  to pclose for comfort. Actually getting really farked off with hearing all the talk about people trying to work from home. Buggar all where I come from have that option but apart from talk about either closing down their businesses or limiting their use nothing. Oh sorry some wages subsidy talk that i bet will struggle to get where its needed.

we live week to week so if my work was to close up shop we would be fudgeed, my partner is a cleaner and if everybody works from home she will have nothing to clean so lose lose for us we may be able to get the subsidy but not sure it will be enough to cover is.

I can't work from home and worse still, if that virus shows up at my work, we're in big trouble. Where I am would be considered very high risk with probable multiple fatalities.

For anyone blaming A-League for playing on,  here is a good summary of their reasoning. They can't give FOX any excuse to pull the plug on their broadcast deal :

I mean from a selfish pov if we can finish off our best ever season- great! Sucks for the club not to get the home final receipts. I hope it's not that risky for the players. Regular NZ life probably riskier right now.

I just cant understand how AfL, nrl, a-league or any sport is continuing in Australia, considering the restrictions we have in NZ, and considering how Europe and America is. Do they think they are different? The whole thing isin sanity and will surely be canned within a week or two.

feel for you mate, I'm an employer and our goal is to get through this without losing anyone (buts staff may go to 4 days a week). But it's a genuine cliff edge coming up quick. We're just at the start of this sadly, I'd think of the worse case scenario and plan accordingly. It's potentially that bad

I think you should all plan for all schools, universities etc to close soon. Nearly all countries in Europe have done this. It seems that children do catch the virus. They just have very mild symptoms but they CAN infect others. You don’t want kids picking it up at school and then bringing it home to their families. In some countries empty hotels have handed over facilities to govt caregivers so that health workers can bring their kids in to safe mini crèches while the parents are working. It is all carefully and cleanly run by professionals.

You just have to look at Europe to see what awaits NZ. The UK has just shutdown bars, cafes, restaurants. They will be in full lockdown in a week IMO. Most of the rest of Europe is living under what amounts to martial law. I can now only leave my house once a day and only to buy food. Police patrol the streets. NZ is probably a week or two behind the UK and a month behind continental countries.

We now live in extra ordinary times. My advice to kiwis is to self isolated NOW, especially if you are over 60 and or have health issues. Don’t wait until you are ordered to by the government. We are all in the hands of the brave people who staff our medical facilities. I just hope there are enough of them and they are equipped well enough to cope with what is about to happen.

Keep safe

i hope people listen to your advice as it is spot on, been telling people this for weeks but for some it seems to not get through, just told my parents this yesterday about not waiting to be told to isolate themselves. they are in their 80's and needed to be told i just hope they listen.
