Corona Virus - We're Doomed

Cant  believe they seriously think that this will work unless they have armed guards ensuring the players do as they are told. Let's face it they dont have a good record with players doing the right thing. Really cant see them starting now.

Good on them for trying to get it back up & running. Whether it actually does or not will still depend on what happens in the next few weeks.

I find it amusing that our own health experts don't know what the situation will be in New Zealand in a week or two, but people on this forum are very sure about what will be safe & not safe to do in Australia in 5 or 6 weeks.

Good 'hang in there, team' note to members / supporters from the club today. 

If its good enough for the NRL then its good enough for A-League to restart early too. Corona virus is almost gone anyway.

Any wonder they don't speak to the media sometimes, received a nice up date from the club outlining where they are on a couple of things. So the Stuff article for whatever reason chose to bring up Payne and Sails extra curricular activity in OZ. Not really sure of the relevance   in relation to the email quoted. Apart maybe some bitterness that they chose to speak to their members rather than the media.

22 players, 47 employees for the wage subsidy?

Really?

Someone is either ripping of the government or the back room staff is a lot bigger then this forum thought

There are 22 contracted players, so far as I'm aware; 18 staff members listed here: https://www.wellingtonphoenix.com/our-staff and six academy staff members. That's 46, but the wage subsidy register shows 47 (the club is under Welnix, the academy shows up with a search for Wellington Phoenix).

Edit: Which is to say that the 22 is part of the 47, not in addition to it, as is stated in the yarn.

David Dome said in the newsletter that the Phoenix are ready to resume playing as soon as possible. That was probably the most interesting thing they said in the newsletter, which was mostly fluff that could be taken for granted.

As the Warriors have identified after the NRL's move to resume, a key obstacle when it comes to resuming is whether New Zealand teams will be allowed into Australia.

The Phoenix's failure to obey the conditions of their entry the first time around is directly relevant as it is something the Australian government will have to consider in deciding to whether to allow them to return (in the current circumstances – once things are back to normal it won't be an issue).

I note the players have been given individual training programmes todo within the own residences. It's a start without compromising anyone.

The article also says that, alongside Davila, Hooper is the other player not currently in NZ/Australia. Presume he's gone back to the UK? Doesn't seem like a particularly good sign.

Didn't his wife and kids return to the UK, whilst he was with the Nix in Australia?

But yeah hard to see him returning to Wellington regardless. Doubt WINZ's approved wage subsidy will be enough to keep him!

Right now is it safer here in NZ or in the UK? I know where I'd rather be, right here!

It's quite a different team without Hooper and Davila.

Both players overrated anyway and won't be missed.

Most of our rivals aren't paying their players. Who knows what other squads will look like if the season restarts.

Hopefully the league doesn't take too much of a step backwards

More full timers most likely.  I only used thy AFC comparion as it was "AucklandPhoenix" Asking.   

1 full-time (21-40 hours per week) and 13 part-time (1-20 hours per week) for Auckland City.

9 and 0 for Team Wellington.

7 and 17 for Eastern Suburbs.

6 and 1 for Hawke's Bay United.

1 and 19 for Waitakere United.

39 and 2 for the Wellington Phoenix (and then 6 full-time academy staff).

41 and 0 for New Zealand Football.

11 and 1 for Northern Football, 12 and 1 for Auckland Football and Waibop Football, 18 and 1 for Central Football, 10 and 0 for Capital Football, 11 and 3 for Mainland Football, 11 and 1 for Football South.

Interesting

Team Wellington Football club  has not taken any Wage subsidy from the fund.  I'm guessing ACFC have O'League commitments, training staff, back office, support staff still working.

Good to know, though they'd certainly be entitled too – missing out out on the home semi and the home match scheduled for March 22 would have hit their revenue.

The Unions of NZ are listed as essential workers and I understand many calls are going their way as employees try and work out the finances of this pandemic.

Were are all the very Rich People like Sir Richard Branson now? All wanting the NHS privatised and or closed down? I think considering they've been handicapped from the start, the NHS have tried and done their best under the circumstances. hey have done an excellent job. Very much like our own here in NZ.
