I watched that press conference. Super important for Singh's development that Kovac stays around, he clearly rates Sarpreet very highly and wants to give him minutes this season. Dunno if he will get on the pitch against dortmund but I think he will be on the bench for sure. Regardless, everything that Kovac has said so far and how Singh has performed indicates that we will see him get at least a few competitive first team minutes this season and I bloody love it

From 8,000 at Westpac to 48,000 in Germany, the boy is living the dream.

Expect there'll be a few more than 48,000 at Westfallen tomorrow.

Capacity 81,000. Anyone ever been?

Once worked with a mad Aussie born Dortmund fan in Melbourne (half German, half Sri Lankan). He'd record and watch every game.

Be quite a cool little tour now going round stadiums of UK, and mainland Europe watching Kiwis at various clubs.

Think he'd have had a better chance of getting on if Bayern was up, and comfortably up. With them chasing the game his chances of getting decreased massively.

Agreed..fast paced game which may not have suited as well..plenty of other chances to come no doubt.

Of the other attacking subs; Renato Sanches did sweet FA for 20mins and even Alphonso Davis, after the first 5 or so minutes, didn't do much - couple of nice crosses only.  If Singh can stay in/around the squad he might get a chance to move passed one of these.

No one can argue anymore, this is absolutely the biggest move of any kiwi footballer ever. Unbelievable. It already looks like Muller has started to take him under his wing too, think how much better he can get when he's around guys like that.

Hope they also pay him more and AUDI have to upgrade from a A1 to and A3 RS. :-)

They need a squad of 25 to survive all the games they have play.

So for anyone who knows German football why are Beyern in a position so close to the start of the season where they have a very thin squad and have not done much business in the off season? My worry is that Kovac is sacked really in the season and Singh loses any opportunity, we see that over and over again.

Either way, he's got a good base to work from now - even if he got tossed aside now, he's still got Bayern on his resume.

Kovac didn't have a good last season, they only just managed to win the league. Not many people thought he would be given a second year, but I hope he does well as it looks like he has a good relationship with Singh already .It will be the champions league games that will show Bayerns true colours and if Kovac gets the sack or not.

Yep, but why are they not doing business? If seems like they're setting themselves up for second place.

Good point, have not heard too many rumors apart from Sane. But I guess the less first team players the bigger chance for Singh to play.

They've been trying to sign Sane for a while, he was targeted as their big signing. They were also after Callum Hudson-Odoi, but Frank Lampard managed to kibosh that move. Those two were intended to replace Ribery and Robben, but if they don't manage to sign either they won't have enough depth in wide positions. Gnabry and Coman are excellent wingers, but it's only really Alphonso Davies who can deputise if one becomes injured or suspended. Bale and Griezmann were also touted as signings Bayern were interested in making but obviously nothing came of it. Realistically it's good for Singh - the fewer players there are, the more minutes he will get. Another name that Bayern are supposedly interested in though is Kai Havertz, which would be an absolute disaster for Sarpreet if he was signed. Same age and position except taller, stronger, with a breakout bundesliga season already under his belt.

There is a bit of time, another 4 weeks until transfer window closes in Germany.

My exact thoughts as I watched the second half of the game yesterday.

Hopefully they go out to recruit well and smash the league, cup and do well in the UCL and Sapreet gets a few chances to shine in the process.

Would it be better for him tho to get some game time in second team and get used to comp and pace and then move up?  Unused sub aint a great way to improve or impress

If he's as far advanced as Kovac seems to think, playing him in 3. Bundesliga seems a bit of a waste.

I reckon best thing for him this season would be to get loaned out to a different Bundesliga club with less loftier expectations than Bayern. It would give him a chance to get up to speed with the league, and could give him a bit of a buffer if Kovac gets the archer, especially if he did well for the club he was loaned to.

Agree based on what's happened last few weeks, a loan deal to a mid-lower table Bundesliga team where hopefully he's at worst a regular sub seems a reasonable plan.

Bayern II are already 2nd bottom of Bundesliga 3, (promoted up last season) and Marinovic who knows the German scene, predicts they will be in a dogfight all season to avoid the drop. Not sure that's good for Singh right now.

It was good while it lasted, he can always come back to the A-League.

Totally agree with this. A year on loan in the Budesliga would be by far the best result for his development. It's all good getting mentored by Muller and co, and possibly getting a few minutes for a big team here and there (most likely when already up by 2 or 3 goals), but for a 20 year old nothing is going to beat consistent game time at the highest possible level.

As long as they don't do what they did to Sanches and send him to rot in the EPL for a year. And speaking of Sanches, I had no idea that Bayern spent almost 80 million on him (including add-ons). Singh was a fudgeing bargain.

Sanches' transfer was pretty much all down to EURO 2016. Portugal won the whole thing, Sanches had a couple of notable games there, so he was the young hot property after that tournament.

Back to Singh, if he were to get loaned out, how cool would it be if it was to Werder Bremen? I see that Bayern loaned Marco Friedl (who was a Bayern II player with very limited first team appearances) to them last season, and that move has now been made permanent, so the two clubs have obviously done that kind of thing before.

Would sitting on the bench at Bayern be such a bad thing? Definitely if he stays on the bench for a few years that wouldn’t be great, but would one season be so bad? He’s only 20 and he’d still be learning a hell of a lot. Might make a few substitute appearances in the bundesliga and maybe a few starts in the cups, which doesn’t sound like the end of the world to me.

I think a good thing about him going on loan and getting first-team experience if he performs well it'll be a good way to show his talent and other teams could be interested in him but if he's on the bench at Bayern and doesn't really do much he could be easily forgotten and moved on to a lower european team

It's by no means a bad thing, but it'd be far better for his development to play week in and week out - ideally in the same league as his parent team.

Also if the coach gets sacked half way through the season then he's in a much better position getting minutes in the Budesliga rather than an unknown (to the new coach) benchwarmer.

With all respect to how he's doing, if he got loaned out and he was getting minutes it would be more likely the the division below the bundesliga.

That's not a slight on his ability and if he played regularly he would be doing better then Rojas did.

This is by far the most optimal scenario.

No footballer wants to sit on the bench. Not doing anything to help him improve.

How, exactly, is sitting on the bench for most of the season better than playing every week for a weaker team in the same league? Surely that is the most optimal scenario?
