Just wondering if there’s a chance Marinovic might feature in European competition. Even a vague chance of impressing there and continuing on up with his career trajectory?

I used this thing called Google, and it tells me no Hapoel Tel Aviv (6th in the Israeli Prem League last season) will not be playing in Europe in the up coming season. Only the top 3-4 sides make Europe.

https://us.soccerway.com/teams/israel/hapoel-tel-aviv-fc/1207/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_Premier_League
Upon its conclusion, the first place team wins the Israeli championship and qualifies to participate in the first qualifying round of the 2021–22 UEFA Champions League. The runners-up and the third-placed teams qualify for the second qualifying round of the 2021–22 UEFA Europa Conference League.

In addition, the Israeli State Cup winners qualify for the second qualifying round of the 2021–22 UEFA Europa Conference League.

If the State Cup winners are also one of the teams to finish in the league's top three places then the fourth-placed team will also play in Europa League. In case the State Cup winners also win the Israeli Premier League then the fourth-placed league team will play in second qualifying round of the 2021–22 UEFA Europa Conference League.

I mean every team out of the 14 in the league can make a European spot, but based on recent seasons and the strength of the current big 3 in Maccabi Haifa, Hapoel Beer Sheva and Maccabi Tel Aviv I think it’s unlikely, but you never know

No Europe might be a blessing in disguise actually. I know nothing of the Israeli PL other than recognising some team names, but being able to concentrate on the league and Cup might give them an edge. Winning any sort of silverware would be great for Stef (and his career)

From Flying Kiwis. Sounds like big Stef being cheap helped him get the new gig. As an aside is it Marinovich or sans h? I always thought is was Marinovic.

One of the teams that conceded more was Marinovich’s Nof HaGalil team, in fairness... yet you never quite know with goalkeepers for bad teams. Are makings lots of saves because they’re good or because they face so many shots? Are they conceding so many goals because they’re bad or because their defence sucks? Hence this is a pretty handy vindication for Marinovic as he’s earned himself a significant leap up the ladder with this transfer.

Lithuanian keeper Ernestas Šetkus was the main man for Hapoel Tel Aviv last term. He started 31 out of 36 matches but he’s 37 years old now and they weren’t able to come to terms on a new deal. It sounds like Šetkus wanted a pay raise to stay on. HTA also negotiated with a couple of local goalies who demanded hefty wages. Marinovic, on the other hand, was more accomodating with his terms... plus as an import player there’s apparently a lower tax on his salary as well.

Time.news: “We brought in a goalkeeper no less good than Israelis who were interested, like Ariel Harush and Boris Kleiman, but at about half the costs they demanded. We did not lose an import spot because from the beginning the goal was to be with five foreigners, so now we will be with six and will be fine.”

When his old team played against hapoel te Aviv their fans threw things on the pitch, and Stefan reported it to the security, and Israeli FA fined hapoel tel Aviv cause of it 😂😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Whole bunch of "we don't want you", "we haven't forgotten what you did", few middle finger emojis in the comments of the Instagram post announcing him... not a positive comment in sight. Anyone have any idea what he actually did to piss Hapoel fans off?

Marinovic is correct. It was common for migrant Balkan families (particularly Croatians) to add the "h" to the end of their surnames, to force to "ich" pronunciation. It was mainly to help Western Europeans. The correct Croatian spelling would be Marinović. Besides NZ, it's also somewhat common in Australia, Canada and the US

Wow, Israeli fans are ruthless. Being torn to shreds by Hapoel fans online, seemingly because of their predisposition towards him before joining the club. Seems he’s become a scapegoat for their poor performances.

Hasn’t even looked that poor in all honesty - wonder if this was the right move

Watched the gsme live. Marinovic did make a bad error to concede the goal, but had a generally good game. Hapoel Tel Aviv will struggle this season, so expect it to be a rough year for Stefan sadly

From Flying Kiwis. A little update on Marinovic.
Hey Mods what about updating his club

https://www.instagram.com/p/ChbzSMfOAjr/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Meanwhile how about Big Stef? He’s made the switch from Hapoel Nof HaGalil (relegated in last place in 2021-21) to Hapoel Tel Aviv (fifth place in 2021-22) and you’ll be chuffed to know that he’s gone straight in as their number one keeper.

Hapoel Te Aviv had a solid start to the season with the League Cup. Three wins and a loss sent them through their group in first place although the Premier League stuff could have been better with consecutive 2-0 defeats to kick all that off. Thankfully they had a good win this morning. Beat Maccabi Netanya 2-0 with goals either side of half-time setting them up for the points. Alen Ozbolt from the penalty spot on 41’ and then Qays Ghanem on 48’. Clean sheet for Marinovic who also got a yellow card near the end.

Up Next: Home to Hapoel Be’er Sheva at 5.15am on Monday (NZT)

Yipe tough for Marinvoic to stop that rocket shot for Hapoel Beer-Shev's 3rd & winning goal
https://youtu.be/uqHwvp99WJM

Stefan Marinovic was the most surprising unexplained absence in the All Whites squad to face Australia. He’d lost the starting gig to Oli Sail over the previous two windows and perhaps didn’t want to fly all the way back home just to sit on the bench. Or maybe he was just straight up dropped. Dunno.
What we can say for sure is that he’s the number one for Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Unfortunately after a relieving 2-0 win last week, they weren’t able to keep that consistency going this time around. At home to Hapoel Beer-Sheva they took the lead on 23’ as Kayes Ganem scored a very direct counter attack, finishing it with a wonderful left-footed curler. They held that lead for ages. Way into the second half.

Marinovic made a fine one-handed stop at his near post soon after the opener. Ten minutes later he had no hope as HBS took a pop that nearly snapped his crossbar in half, phew. Then a header went over his bar. Finally in the 60th minute there wasn’t much he could do as Astrit Selmani nodded in at the back stick... but within two minutes El Yam Kancepolsky had slammed Tel Aviv back into the lead. Thumping strike with a helpful deflection.

2-1 up with half an hour to go? If only they’d kept it up. Alas, five minutes after retaking the lead they got turned around on the left edge of their defence. Marinovic palmed away the low cross but couldn’t do the same with the follow-up shot through a crowd of defenders in front of him. After 80 mins it seemed that Hapoel Tel Aviv were sure to retake the lead but failed to convert on the rebound from about six yards out.

Before the ball even went out of play, Beer-Sheva then rolled down the other end and won it with a blast from outside the area that was as close to literally unsaveable as it gets. 3-2 to Hapoel Beer-Sheva. Bugger. HTA have lost three of their first four Premier League games.
