teletext still around...

I miss those days. ? Checking the scores and waiting for it to refresh. I didn't grow up with sky tv and all that carry on. Was like the twitter of the 90's and early 2000's - Just with less people spouting their sharke obviously, and teletext was based on facts.

Anyway, hope McGarry can kick on this season, from memory he only played 5-6 games last season. Good to see he's still on the cusp of the first team by being on the bench, but hoping he will be given the chance to get some minutes under his belt for the reserves at the very least.

Willem II II? Is that even a thing?

It was waiting around the radio with the old man for the results to come through, our TV wasnt that  flash to have teletext.

Mcgarry will get his chance think as long as they are in and around the squad then his chance will come.

Big game in Dutch football tomorrow, as PSV host Ajax. I presume still too early for Thomas.

Anyone have any idea how James is doing.
He’s been a professional player for 3-4 years now, but has precious few minutes to show for it at either Nix or Willem II.
I missed his performance for the Oly Whites. Is he progressing?

On the bench with Woud as Willem II get a 4-0 win in the Dutch Cup at 4th tier HV & MV Quick.

Sounds like a name straight out of the White Pages.

Bit disappointing Mcgarry not given any minutes in a game like this.

Yep; he's played 6 minutes of Eredivise since February according to Transfermarket; seems to be playing U21s regularly.

Some playing time for AWs in November, and you never know who is watching.

May have to go to a lower level league that Eredivisie, to become a starter in Europe.

Not helped by Willem II tracking well this season. Currently 6th in Dutch top flight.

Like Wynne, another who the Nix could consider if Cacace moves on in 2020.

Do Dutch clubs send players out on loan, or just release them if they’re not getting game time?

With Woud on the bench for a big 2-1 win over PSV

Willem II up to 6th.

Thomas's PSV in a funk. 4 losses & 2 draws in their last 6 games. They had 5 players yellow carded in this game.

3rd in Eredivisie, a large 11 points behind Ajax.

All 3 Kiwis will be looking for some game time for AWs. For Woud & Mcgarry that's likely to be in the 2nd Lithuania match you'd think.

Nix players are gonna be rested for game 1 cuz of the travel it sounds, so they are likely to play the first game.

Watches from the pine with Woud, as Willem II beat Sparta Rotterdam 4-0.

Willem II up to 4th, behind PSV.

Wonder if Mcgarry should be looking at a loan deal to a 2nd tier Dutch club, to actually be getting some playing minutes at a decent level.

Paltry 6 minutes of Everdivisie action so far this season, after 15 games!

Watches with Woud from the bench as in a huge upset Willem II steal (only 33% possession) a 2-0 win away at the Ajax Arena.

Willem II having a great Eredivisie season and climb to 3rd above PSV.

I suspect Ajax, didn't play a full strength side with a very important UCL game against Valencia this Wednesday??

At a minimum they would have been distracted by the upcoming UCL game.

Still great win for Willem II - Ajax are a bloody good team.

More splinters for Mcgarry & Woud as they watch a 2-1 win at 5th placed Heerenveen (Rojas's old club).

Willem II overtake PSV again to go into 3rd.

Willem II having a very good season, so without injuries hard to see either of the Kiwis getting much (any in the case of Woud) playing time.

Ryan Thomas & crew play on Sunday at 8th placed Feyenoord

Is a January transfer on the cards? This kid has "played " professional football for a while now without getting any significant game time. I'm sure he wants to make the Olympic squad; but more importantly he needs to find a league/club where he can play.

He played left back against Lithuania and was a turnstile. When he was with the Nix reserves he was more further forward.

It's dangerous to judge someone solely on a one game, when you are making your senior international debut, and apart from 2-3 training sessions basically your team mates are complete strangers.

Davila had a pretty shark A League debut, and he'd been training with his team mates daily for months.

From memory McGarry went alright for the U23s under Buckingham, verus a pretty handy Olyroos team over 2 games.

Plus the coaching setup at the 4th best team in the Eredivisie must be seeing something on a daily basis, to keep him in their match day squad - even if they have enlarged benches in the Dutch top flight.

But yeah he needs to be actually playing somewhere. Loan deal to one of the better Eerste Divisie (Dutch 2nd tier) sides??

McGarry played 62 minutes in the second team's win on 27 January v NEC. Is the second team age restricted?

Meanwhile..Willem II have just signed a 20 year old attacking left back from Bayern Munich II until 2023.

Willem II captured Kwasi Wriedt and Derrick Köhn until the summer of 2023. The attacker and defender are from FC Bayern Munich II and will make the switch to Tilburg next summer. Wriedt and Köhn were born in Hamburg and both have Ghanaian roots. The two play in Bayern Munich II, which ends in the 3. Liga. Spits Wriedt (25) scored 13 goals in 21 games in that division this season.

Köhn (20), an attacking left back, came to fourteen games this season and delivered four assists.

Wriedt is a star at the 3. Liga level, bangs in goals for fun, but Kohn is a tad average. Never was in first team conversations, but considering Doyle and Rogerson's time in 3. Liga not going too flash I can see McGarry's role in jeopardy

Back into the matchday squad, and watches on with Woud as Willem II (5th) go down 2-0 at Feyenoord (3rd).

A Europa League qualifying spot (positions 3-7) still looks secure, but any dreams of a UCL qualifying spot (top 2) look well gone for Willem II. Being 12 pts behind the top 2 (Ajax & AZ)

PSV (4th) and Thomas about to kick off against Groningen away.

James McGarry's contract was terminated immediately. The New Zealander recently received news that the option is not being lifted in his contract. McGarry then asked the club to contribute to a faster return to his homeland. Willem II decided to comply with that request. McGarry joined the Tricolores in July 2018, but his stay in Tilburg was not what both parties expected. McGarry: "I want to thank the supporters, staff and players for the past two years. Because of you I have felt very comfortable at the club. I wish Willem II every success for the future! " James, good luck with the continuation of the career!
Good news for Southern?

Or Nix?

I thought any former overseas pro returning to NZ went to ACFC?

Is an interesting one. Maybe like Lewis at Scun-thorpe he just got sick of not playing, and wants to come back to NZ.

Still being on the fringes of one of the better sides in the Eredivisie (Willem II were 5th), you would think he could pick up a gig at a lower level top flight side, or 2nd tier Eerste Divisie team. Maybe in Holland at the moment, no one is being signed by anyone.

Or possibly the Nix have reached out. Is Walter Scott going to be released at the end of May. Or has Cacace played his last A League game. Imagine clubs and player agents have had plenty of time lately to be negotiating new signings for 2020/2021. Bundesliga starts end of this month, must be some chance of a closed door Serie A kicking off in a few months.

Speculate away I guess.

If Cacace is gone next season then I don't see a better candidate for our LB position as it stands.
