On the bench with Woud, as Willem II travel to De Graafschap.

Interestingly the De Graafschap squad is 100% Dutch, not one foreigner.

Willem II went down 2-1. They received two red cards, one after 18’ and th other 64’. Was 1-1 until the 89th minute. Subs seemed forced due to the dismissals so it’s hard to know if James was in the frame to make an appearance or not.

I note one of send offs was their left back. So McGarry might be in line to get minutes in Willem’s next game.

McGarry enters the game against FC Utrecht in the 78th minute. Score is 0-0 but Willem II lucky to not be a goal down after a ref/VAR blunder - it’s not just the A-League!

Unfortunately Utrecht take it out 1-0 with a goal at 87 mins.

Would on the bench as usual.

Neither him nor Woud required off the bench, but they get a feel for atmosphere of the Ajax Arena.

Brought on for the last 30 mins in a 3-2 win over Zwolle.

Willem II up by 2-0 when he was introduced.

Amazing really that he’s getting minutes in the Eredivisie.

Woud on the bench.

Big news coming out of the Willem II camp - four players, including their first-choice goalkeeper and left winger, have been suspended for disciplinary reasons: https://www.foxsports.nl/nieuws/artikel/3002804/willem-schorst-viertal-disciplinair

If only they had a back up goalkeeper and left winger waiting for an opportunity to impress

Looks like Woud is actually the number 3 keeper at Willhem II. He is always listed on an enlarged bench when Soccerway list their match day squads.

But unbeknown their was another keeper on the bench in those squads - he being promoted to the starting role against Emmen when the no 1 keeper was suspended.

Mcgarry and Woud on the pine, as Willem II lose 4-2 at Heerenveen.

Willem II with a player sent off at 67 mins when score was 3-2. Willem II were initially 3-0 down but I guess the comeback killed off by the send off, and which possibly affected Mcgarry chances of any playing time.

Ole Jizz Hornkamp starting for Heerenveen.

Mcgarry and Woud both on the bench as Willem II get belted 6-2 at Ado Den Haag in their last game.

Willem II down to 10 men for last 20 mins. Was 2-2 until that point.

Ajax clinch Dutch title.

So the starting keeper lets in 6? Maybe Woud isn't as bad an option as the supporters think after all.

"You are playing against some big teams, Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV - teams that have done really well in big European competitions. It was an amazing experience. I played in 5-6 games which is more than I played in the four years I was at the Phoenix."

Little dig maybe.

Good on him. Hopefully he can have a good pre season.

Should be worthy of an AWs squad call up to the Irish game in November.

It's crazy - recent ex-players like McGarry, Rogerson and Timotheou (Sydney FC youth off-cast who recently made a first team debut for Schalke) are really showing the vast holes in the A-League's youth pathways

Not sure that Rogerson is a great example there.

Mcgarry wouldve got minutes this season, but he left. Is he really better than Cacace? Or Singh?

He was fit at the time we had Parkhouse starting on the wing, he was a far better option than him. He probably should have got a run at LB ahead of Libby as well but that decision by DK worked out well for us in the end.

Yet DK gave him a reference for his dutch gig... so figure that one out.

I think his biggest problem at the NIX was never having one position. Seemed to be to versatile for his own good.

He was in the plans and could have expected more time this year then... Doyle and Libby tough LB competition. Not quite as bad as Kosta with Bertos, Greenie and Ifill ahead of him.

Iirc that was a misunderstanding of the google translation of the article by me, DK actually said he didn't know much about him when asked cuz he was injured the whole time.

But yes, his versatility was a cursed. He often was being played as a striker for the WeeNix when most people saw him as a Left Wingback.

Willem II start season with a 3-1 win at PEC Zwolle to go top of the Eredivisie!

Mcgarry on the bench. Looks like Willem II didn't make any substitutions.

Woud I note is currently listed as injured.

Interestingly goal Willem conceded was a bit of a howler from their first choice keeper Wellenreuther. About 4.30 mins in the video.

I miss those days. ? Checking the scores and waiting for it to refresh. I didn't grow up with sky tv and all that carry on. Was like the twitter of the 90's and early 2000's - Just with less people spouting their sharke obviously, and teletext was based on facts.

Anyway, hope McGarry can kick on this season, from memory he only played 5-6 games last season. Good to see he's still on the cusp of the first team by being on the bench, but hoping he will be given the chance to get some minutes under his belt for the reserves at the very least.

Willem II II? Is that even a thing?
