SPL starts this weekend. No idea how close 18 yr old G Stanger is to the first team. He made the bench for one game against Motherwell (Dec 2018) last season.

Son of former Scotland rugby union winger Tony Stanger, and a Kiwi girl he apparently met in Sydney back in the 1990's (now his wife)!

If you go to the 11th minute of below video, you will see a very famous moment in Scottish rugby.

21 year old Tony Stanger scores winning try to beat the hated English and clinch 1990 Five Nations (now 6N). Rare event for the Scots, called by the Scottish doyen himself Bill McLaren.

Weirdly between 2 games in Scotland, Hamilton are down to play a friendly against Newcastle Jets, in the Hunter on Thursday August 15th. Seems odd if true.

That is bizzare, can't see them flying to Australia for a midweek game when they have games on Saturday either side of it

On closer look there is nothing on the official Hamilton Academicals website about it and all the listings have Hamilton as the home team, so its more likely that Hamilton Olympic are playing Newcastle Jets and someone somewhere has confused the two

Incidentally Hamilton Olympic is where Leo Bertos plays these days

Very sensible assumption yes I'd say. Soccerway pretty damn good, but not perfect.

He hasn’t been involved in any of the first team friendlies or League Cup this season, despite Brian Rice preferring 3 at the back.

Their Reserves are playing BSC Glasgow (5th tier amateur team) in the Challenge Cup on Wednesday night. I’m going to try get to that as he will likely start.

Just had a look and he got subbed on for last 15 in a 3-0 defeat yesterday at newly promoted Ross County and has played a couple of League Cup games. He came on after they had conceded three goals yesterday so he may get more of a chance.

Hamilton have been one of the poorer sides in the division the last few years and it’s going to be a long season for them.

Yes, they are a weak SPL team, can't compete monetarily so he'll probably get chances, hopefully doesn't get injured on the crappy plastic pitch!

I didn’t manage to make it tonight as I had to work later than I thought but he has started for their Reserves against BSC Glasgow in the Challenge Cup.

Currently 0-0.

From out of nowhere really, what a great move that would be. Don't think Hamilton Academical will be able to persuade him to stay otherwise, but he might find it a little easier to crack the first team setup if he stay's north of the border.

Still wouldn't do anything to cure my disdain for Leeds though.

Made his SPL debut in a 1-3 home loss to Motherwell.

Full game and started as a LB, though may have moved to the centre of defence as HA had a 17 yr old CB (ironically called Hamilton) sent off at 20 mins.

HA already down 0-1, and resulting pen meant went 0-2 behind and game over. HA apparently have a lot of injuries, so some youngsters getting chances in the SPL. Their starting 11, had an average age of 23.

Congrats to Stanger for his first game at this level. Meanwhile his U20s CB partner in Poland, is playing Swedish 4th Div?

Why would he take the transfer? Surely the Scottish fifth tier is on par with pub football?
Hard to believe you can debut in the SPL and not find a better team to be loaned out to. What a shame.

He's been included in the U23 squad to play Aus later this week. But not named for the olympic qualifying tournament, I assume that's because of it not being in an international window. Wonder if that might change now that he's playing 5th tier in Scotland.

Hope the Nix are talking to him, has potential and could be a good investment if we are becoming a selling club.

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

Hamilton defender heads to Station Park

Forfar Athletic can confirm the signing of Hamilton Accies defender George Stanger on a temporary transfer until the end of the current season.

The 19 year old who measures in at 6 feet 3 inches tall began his senior career with Stirling Albion’s youth set-up before moving to Hamilton in January of 2018.

Sweet so George Stanger has ended his loan deal at East Kilbride and immediately moved to Forfar Athletic instead. Two things that matter here...

1) Forfar gaffer Stuart Malcolm, as it says in the post above, was an assistant coach leading to caretaker boss leading to full time manager at East Kilbride which is a position he held when Stanger moved to the club and one he held until November when he was hired by Forfar, one of his old clubs as a player, to be their manager instead and here he was dipping back in for George Stanger again.

2) Forfar play their footy two divisions higher than East Kilbride. They’re sitting ninth out of ten clubs in League One – the third tier in Scotland – and in threat of relegation but a couple wins could shoot them up the ladder quickly. Forfar drew with top placed Raith Rovers this week, with Stanger playing the full game at centre back on debut. A big step up in quality compared to his last loan and an immediate impact. Right on.

Up Next: Away to Falkirk at 4am on Sunday 26 January (NZT)

Back on the radar. As he makes the bench for HA (10th) as they lose 2-1 at 10 man Kilmarnock in the SPL.

Kilmarnock (7th) with a player sent off at 23 mins, when score was 1-1.

Makes the bench again as Hamilton Academical visit Ibrox in the SPL.

Probably a good thing he didn't get on, as Rangers trounce HA 8-0!

Rangers unbeaten and top of the SPL. HA bottom with a -20 GD after 12 games.

Stanger was on the bench against Aberdeen a few weeks back as well. So made 3 SPL match day squads to date this season.

On the bench again in the Scottish League Cup against run of the mill League Two side - Stranraer FC.

Would have thought he might get a look in for some game time in a matchup like this. But considering HA have shipped 17 goals in their last 3 outings in the league he's hopefully a little bit closer to getting a look in at some point.

1-0 Stranraer after 35 minutes at Stair Park.

His first actual minutes in the SPL since a start August 2019.

Unfortunately for HA, relegation rivals Ross County managed an upset 2-0 win at Hibernian (4th).

So HA slip back into bottom spot (12th), though they do have a game in hand.
