Tade’s former club. Same agent?

Many years ago when I was in downtown Durban. Heard a gunshot. Looked down from my rooftop hostel and a black guy is running very fast towards freeway, whilst a white guy is swearing and reloading his hand gun.

Then in the night time my roommate comes in shaken, having seen a stabbed tourist being attended to after using an ATM.

Congrats but be careful young man.

Never been to SA but from what the likes of Brockie have said in the past it sounds like professional footballers live a pretty sheltered lifestyle.
Congrats to him... Will the PSA become the new MLS when it comes to kiwi expats?

PSL.

For sure de Jong, will be well looked after. Live in gated community, maybe with other footballers. I'm sure he has got some good advice.

Probably live at Umhlanga Rocks, just north of Durban.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umhlanga,_KwaZulu-Natal

But there will still be times when you are vulnerable to violent crime. Driving being a big one.

Maybe cutting a haircut another danger zone!

Spent a bit of time there. It's a place where you can't be 100% relaxed, except behind the barbed wire.

Anyway good luck to him.

Good to see him nab a gig at a higher level. Current PSL season finishes later on tonight and then will have a good couple of months to get himself acclimatized to life in South Africa before getting up to speed in the off season and then a full pre season before the next edition of the PSL kicks off later in the year.

Forgot he was only a youngin' at 22! Feels like he's been around the place for a while now. Good on the lad.

Rather him than me. Durban is ranked 127 out of 162 most dangerous cities in the world.

I guess when you are 22 nothing fazes you.

It used to be a fantastic place.

This summer he played as one of two strikers alongside Callum McCowatt, with Eli Just in behind them at the tip of a diamond (or as a false nine, depending who you're talking to). Last summer he mostly played at the tip of a diamond, with Max Mata and Derek Tieku ahead of him. He's probably somewhere between a 10 and a 9.

AmaZulu are 11th in the PSL (top tier), and with one round to go safe from relegation (4 points above the drop zone).

They were docked 6 points early in the PSL season, after defying FIFA over some pay dispute with a player from Namibia. So should be higher up the table.

Tade shone for them earlier in the season (5 goals in 15 games), so got poached by Sundowns.

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

"AmaZulu FC is delighted to announce the signing of New Zealand international striker, Andre de Jong. The 22-year-old joins Usuthu from top flight NZ club, Eastern Suburbs FC.#Usuthu_Unite pic.twitter.com/314miLrbbk

\u2014 AmaZulu FC (@AmaZuluFootball)

May 10,

Fresh from a brilliant Premiership campaign with Eastern Suburbs which culminated in a national title, Andre De Jong has joined the growing list of players from that squad to find their way into the professional ranks. Owen Parker-Price and Harry Edge are with Torslanda in Sweden. Elijah Just and Dalton Wilkins are with FC Helsingør in Denmark. More on that pair in a sec. Callum McCowatt is waiting until after the U20 World Cup to decide on his future. And ADJ is off to South Africa.

There’s a cool twist to this signing. AmaZulu were in the market for a new striker since they sold their last fella to Mamelodi Sundowns, the club that Jeremy Brockie’s at. That striker pretty much edged the already out of favour Brockie to the very fringes of that squad to where he’s expected to be transferred before next season, with interest from elsewhere in the PSL being talked up while the Wellington Phoenix have also thrown their hat in the ring for what that’s worth. That striker’s name is Emiliano Tade. A superstar of the kiwi Premiership and now ADJ has been signed from the same league to replace him at the club next season. Love that.

Andre De Jong: “I am really looking forward to my time here and happy to join a team with plenty of ambition. I think the level here is really high. The intensity, technical demands and pace is high. I want to work hard for the team and hopefully consolidate a place in the line-up soon. I can’t wait to get back here for preseason. The team and coach helped me settle in well. The trial was thoroughly enjoyable.”

“Andre impressed coach Cavin Johnson and his technical team while on trial here. He is an exciting striker with the ability to create and score goals. We are happy to have him join the Usuthu family.”#Usuthu_Unite

De Jong spent time on trial with AmaZulu and impressed the crew there with his abilities. The 22 year old has signed on a three year contract, and he’s expected to play as a second striker for Bongi Ntuli. AmaZul just wrapped up their season finishing 11th out of 16 teams with 31 points.

Got 72 mins before being subbed off. AmaZulu already down by 3 at that point.

Presume injured as he had been performing well.

Earlier this week, AmaZulu sacked their coach and bought in a Jozef Vukusic, a 55 yr old Slovakian as new gaffer.

AmaZulu remain bottom of the table.

First win of the season.

Was 1-1 when De Jong came on.

I note Cape Town City are coached by SA football legend Benni McCarthy

From this week's Flying Kiwis

"Also Andre De Jong is back fit again for AmaZulu to help them avoid relegation – a win in their last game lifted them off bottom. ADJ missed four months with a broken foot sustained on All Whites duty and literally no sooner had he come back into contention to play than the league got postponed. His first game available was the first game that got canned. Guts, bro.

ADJ on March 18: “It feels really good to be back amongst the boys, it was about 15 weeks being out of action, it’s been a bit of a frustration, but I’m really pleased with my progress nonetheless. For the first ten weeks there wasn’t much that I could do, I just had to keep my weight up but since then it’s been proper receptive work. It’s been hard work, working with our physio Ryan and our strength and conditioning coach Zunaid to get back to full fitness, so I’m very thankful to them all”

That was eleven weeks ago and it’ll be another four weeks at least before he can play a proper game. So take the foot fracture sit down and double it for a global pandemic, talk about frustration. He did sneak a friendly game in before the postponements at least."

PSL starts back up.

Gets 20 odd mins off the bench in 0-0 draw against Baroka (13th)

His first game back since getting injured with the AWs in Nov last year. Completed 1 year now of a 3 year deal, though maybe there is some exit clause if his club are relegated.

AmaZulu are 3rd last (14th) just above the drop zone.

ADJ: “Yeah, I’m obviously absolutely raring to go again after what's been a long injury layoff that's dated back to November. So and including the lockdown, it's been about eight or nine months and since I last played. So I can't wait to get back out there on the field. The Saturday, and especially in these last six games, would be really nice to contribute to the to the team moving up the table as an attacking unit. Obviously, all of us are working really hard to get on the scoresheet and assist Bongi has had and obviously an incredible season. So, yeah. And these in these last six games, obviously, I love to love to contribute in an attacking sense to the team.”

"That could end up being a crucial point for AmaZulu, as it lifted them one spot up the ladder and out of the relegation playoff position. And Baroka are level on points with AmaZulu and a slightly better goal difference so they won’t be moaning about this result either. Not a game with too many chances to talk about, AmaZulu were the more aggressive team in the closing stages with ADJ out there but they didn’t create much to show for it. A draw ain’t a terrible way to resume though... and for De Jong it woulda just been nice to be playing at all.

(Stinker news elsewhere as Dan Morgan was an unused sub for Maritzburg as they lost 3-2 away to bottom-placed Black Leopards, which is a blow in their own hopes of finishing in the top three and qualifying for continental footy and also a blow for AmaZulu who might be clear of the drop zone for now but they’re also only one point off last – the bottom five teams are now separated by only three points)."

Unused sub in a critical 1-0 win over relegation rivals Black Leopards (14th).

With 2 PSL games left AmaZulu overtake Leopards into 13th spot.

One win from their final 2 games (mid table teams Stellenbosch & Highlands Park - both with probably nothing to play for), and they should be safe from relegation.

Exiting finish to season to find league winner. Both teams with 3 games left, Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns (Brockie's old club) are tied on 53 points. Chiefs with only 1 point from their last 3 games, including losing to Sundowns last time out in a big game.

Unfortunately for Amazulu and Dre this is not the case.....

Every team in the PSL at this stage of the season has something to fight for. The top two teams fighting for the league and champions League qualification. 3rd and 4th for Africa's Europa style competition. 4th to 10th are fighting to qualify for the Top 8 Competition (which is at the beginning of the new season). And the rest are fighting against relegation. 16th place is automatic relegation and the club finishing 15th goes into a promotion playoff with the club finishing 2nd and 3rd in the 1st division.

Stellenbosch and Highlands Park are currently placed at 8th and 9th in the table. They will not give Amazulu any quarter. Coaches have been sacked in the past for not finishing in the Top 8. This virus disaster has made it very important for the club's finances. Its squeaky bum time.

Unused sub in a 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch (10th).

So AmaZulu (29 pts) are 13th, a point ahead of Baroka (28 pts) in 15th and the relegation playoff spot.

Polokwane City last (25 pts) are confirmed as relegated.

In final round AmaZulu host mid table Highlands Park, whilst Baroka host title chasing Kaizer Chiefs.

AmaZulu in the box seat you would think to avoid the relegation playoff spot.

At other end of the table, Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs (1st on GD) are both on 56 points. All to play for in the last round.

Sundowns host Black Leopards (14th & 29 pts), whilst as above Chiefs travel to Baroka.

So 2 title chasing teams, play 2 teams desperate to avoid the relegation playoff spot. Dramatic end to the PSL season perhaps.

Baroka actually won at Sundowns on the weekend in a big upset, doing Kaizer Chiefs a massive favour.

Unused sub in a 1-1 draw with Highlands Park (9th). AmaZulu (30 pts), finish 13th.

Black Leopards (15th) end up in the relegation playoff spot, losing out on GD to Baroka (14th).

Baroka held title chasing Kaizer Chiefs to a 1-1 draw.

Black Leopards lost 3-0 at Sundowns.

So Sundowns are PSL champions, finishing 2 points ahead of Kaizer Chiefs. Both teams had identical GD (+21), so just one more goal and a win over Baroka, would have meant Chiefs winning the title. Dramatic end to the season no doubt.

See Kearyn Baccus (ex Melbourne City & WSW) is at now Kaizer Chiefs. South African born.

https://us.soccerway.com/players/kearyn-baccus/164631/

de Jong with 2 years to go on his contract at AmaZulu. Doubt him and Morgan (if they were picked) would be currently be allowed entry to the EU to play for AWs.
