Great work Jono - it's good to get some analysis on the draft and hear another persons thoughts (especially as I still don't really know how I did).

Cheers, I'll try to keep writing through the season, might help me get back into it as I am looking at getting into Analytics :P

Yeah glad I could at least get him after the Rush of QB picks typically in the lead up to my pick.

Otherwise fairly happy.

just added up projected scores of my starting lineup vs the projected scores of my first round opponent (Pacific Island Usos)

Mine is higher with 1916 vs 1893.5

If that means anything. I'm taking it as a good sign that my team isn't completely rubbish anyway.

2 of my QBs are rated as "can't go wrong with him as a backup" while the 3rd is a rookie. So yeah hopefully my rookie stars as the season goes on.

However the Usos have a lower overall position rank (which is good), 163 vs my 174

I had NO idea what I was doing so when I set up the auto-pick (wish I knew there was an app...was there an app?) I picked positions I though needed to get filled with some quality hence putting them early in the draft. No idea how my team shapes up as my NFL knowledge comes back to a Seahawks jersey I had as a 9 year old, a Chargers pin I had as an 11 year old and a Bears sweater I had when I was 12.

I do find myself watching games and have even played a game or two for the Porirua Hurricanes about 18 years ago, but have no idea who is who. Can anyone give me an overall summary of my team?

Love the analysis Jono, although slightly worries that apart from Megatron, none of my players got a mention in the write ups.  My new hope is that my whole team are flying under the radar.

I quite like your team, its solid. But then what do I know.

Have my eye on one of your QBs. Still have to decide how I'm going to approach potentially strengthening that position, when I will do it, or if I even will at all.

I'm tempted to try and trade to you for a WR who is usable this season, but trying to work out what I give up to get it :P

Yeah did look into that after you posted on the trade board.

Don't think we have much to really offer each other in a trade sadly.

It's probably something that I will look into later in the season if I look likely for playoffs and Johnny doesn't end up as a permanent starter by then.

I turned down your trade, not because I am an arsehole, but because I am not really sure of the value of my or your players.  Give me a couple of weeks to realise that Tony Romo is not the guy who owns the steakhouse and I will be ready to trade away.

it was a cheeky one that thought you may turn down.

At this stage I'm not really sure what I'm willing to give up either. So will probably be good to revise the trade in a few weeks.

I know what you mean, it's ok this week is CUT week, so by 8am (NZT) today they have to cut their rosters to 75, and then by Sunday they have to cut rosters to 53, likely to be at least one player in the Yellow Fever squads that gets cut.

And hey your players could yet have a weapon, or get injured in practice. We already have a few players gone for the season.

A little bit, got it it at 25% off, and I paid as I wanted to watch the Preseason Vikings games at a bare minimum and otherwise would've not seen them, and for me that's not good enough. Guess it cost me about $50-60 depending on exchange rates :)

Week 1 Preview & Teams Overview

Belgian Waffles (Me) vs Midas Whale (Yakcall)

Week 1 Matchup: Two short QBs fighting in wk 1, but one of them is Brees, not even close. RBs in this game see three each as both have  a Flex RB as well, both teams with two top RBs, Charles, Peterson, Bell and Murray are all top 10 while healthy, looking forward to seeing this battle play out, if you want a difference between these two line-ups it's in the third RB where FJax is better than Tate. WRs competition for this season really isn't close to me. I may be biased, but my team is very strong at wide recevier for this season. Julio, White & Floyd are a great combo, against most other line-ups the Whale group would be awesome as well, just not here. PS who cares about TE/DST & Kickers? :P

This Year, The Future or Middle Ground?

Belgian Waffles: Tough here, has a reasonable team for this season, but a lot of youth on the bench for the future. Middle

Midas Whale: Surely this season for now, a few too many older guys, but depth is quite nice. This Year

Fairfield Fairies (Martyn Evans) vs London Hammers (Frankie)

This Week: Quarterbacks, I like both of these guys for this season, but I choose Peyton this week based on the fact he is against Indy, while Arizona is a better defense. RBs & Flex, I like the Hammers team more here, the Flex makes it for me. Though Stacy over Mathews does help a lot as well. De'Anthony Thomas is a weakness for the Fairies, probably be better playing MJD, Boldin or Moreno in that slot. At WR these two teams both look awesome, the top 2 WRs in the league and the #1s for two other teams lined up as well. Love these ones and not sure who I'd pick to win here. Don't care about the rest. I have this game down as a Push,  but if Fairies change their Flex player they will have the win in my books.

This Year, The Future or Middle Ground?

Fairies: I am going to go with This Year, based on the fact that there really aren't enough young guys in the team, but a lot of reasonable bench guys who could play a part in the future.

Hammers: Guess I have to go This Year, the starters are clerly about this year, but the bench doesn't seem to be built for this year or next. If  I was managing the team I'd be dropping all my bench players with surnames starting with A. Oh I lie, I'd keep Dwayne Allen.

Great stuff Jono.

I found it hard to build for future years when I only know 6 players in the league at the moment.  Actually, to be completely honest, I forgot about the whole legacy thing when we were doing the draft so by the end was only picking people who had cool names or was closest to the cursor when it was my turn.  After I clean up the competition this year I might find it tough to complete the 3-peat and beyond.

Naenae Tegal (Duh?) vs Pacfic Island Usos (Sam Warlow)

This Week: I really love Jay Cutler this season, yes I just traded him away in this league, but I needed some more WR cover and futures. Luck is the #1 QB in dynasty, probably 6th or so this season. Facing the tougher match in this week though Luck, so give the QB win to tegal with Cutler throwing to the best WR duo in the league. RBs see 2 Top 10 guys one a little older for Tegal, and 1 Top 10 guy in Lacy, and the older Gore for Usos. Think Lacy is the only one with a tough match-up this weel, so I'll give the win to Tegal this week, Flex sees Vereen vs Sanders, I lean to Sanders after the Welker news. (If anyone missed it Welker is suspended for PEDs 4 games). WR sees a 4 younger guys and Nicks & Edelman, this isn't even close as the Usos blow Trgal away with ease at this position. Tegal has better TE/K while Usos have a slight advantage at DST, though a tougher match-up. I am going to give this game to the Usos based on the WRs being waaaay better.

This Year, The Future or Middle Ground?

Tegal is pretty clear, a very young team minus the late older guys, Edelman, Nicks etc. This team is built for the Future.
The Usos would have a reasonable team for this season, but clearly with young guys throughout and a very young bench they are a team building for the Future as well.

Realised I'll need to look at younger players and like Frankie, once I got past the few players I knew, I was just guessing!

Swarlos Rodriguez (Swarley) vs Yellow Griever (N-Bomb)

This Week: At QB this week it's not even close, RG3 has to deal with two awesome outside rushers, can we take bets on who hits him first? Clowney or Watt? Stafford wins. At RB it looks a bit closer here, I think the combo having McCoy in it leads to Swarlos rodriguez winning here, Foster while healthy is probably Top 10, So two Top 10 looking good here. Flex, I really don't like Spiller or Decker this season, reckon this week they have similar points. Wide Receiver, nice line-ups guys, but Giants don't have a QB and Welker is suspended so Swarlos has to give it in here. N-Bomb wins. N-Bomb also has the better TE here, Def is kinda close, though not sure on the Broncos, and Kicker is Swarlos.

Overall I have to give this win to Griever, QB + WR looks too dominant for me.

This Year, Future or Middle Ground?

Swarlos seems to have a large number of players focused on this season, but a group of good looking youngsters as well, overall I'd say looking at a title challenge in the next 2 years, QB could be an issue after that though. Dalton & RG3 could both lose their roles. This Year.

Griever is a young team with a chance to compete for this year at the same time, everyone in the starting line-up is also young, generally I'd go with Future with this team, but I think they can compete right away while being strong in the future as well. In the Middle

Billikids (Rammtallica) vs Mos Eisley Troopers (LeighBoh)

This Week: I like Nick Foles this season, especially with his low draft position, then add in facing the Jags in week 1, though I like the Jags def more than I did last year. Though in saying that, it's Aaron Flipping Rodgers. Troopers win this week. At RB and Flex the story is the same here, Billikids have young guys with a chance at a job, while the Troopers have current starters, Troopers continue their lead. At WR the better trio is the three on the Billikids, also all younger, Colston will be solid, Harvin is a lottery, and Nelson is pretty goof too. That AJ Green, Allen group is awesome in my opinion. Billikids also win the I don't care positions. Overall a win to the Troopers, but it'll be close.

This Season? Or Future?

The Billikids have a really young line-up, and even more so on the bench, this team is hugely future weighted, will probably struggle at RB all this season, and I think they might struggle in the future as well, a definite position to try and strengthen is RB. Future based team though.

The Troopers on the other hand seem to have a bit of a mixed bag, some older guys Lynch, Bush, colston & Davis in the starting line-up, when you start to look at their bench, it is all about this year, they have no one around at all for the future.

Yeah, I think I'm going to get a pounding all this year until I sort out the RB situation.  Hopefully there will be some tight competition towards the end of the season in which I can trade one of my better guys for this season for an RB in the future.
