cool torres is coming. I muist admit I was never too excited about it, but am happy we got him and definitly think he'll do the job for us. But like all things I guess, time will tell . . . .

am excited by the energy the club has shown in signing youth players for the future. The only concern I have is that there has been little signing of english talent. not sure why unless the english lads we have at the club already are the hottest things out there. but ye that's all I'd be concerned about.

But can not fault the Spanish Players we have in our team......Can't find many (if any) English Players who are better at the positions they play.....

well not so sure about that? we got 3 in the starting line-up (reina, Alonso - will be rotated tho, and torres) nothing at all like what arsenal had.

but my query was more with the youth team where players are coming in from all over the world. maybe it says summin bout the quality of english youth?

Exited about Fernando Torres. Read some posts about how overrated he and other Spanish players (Luque, Morientes) are, but I expect big things from 'El Nino'

Torres is not over rated.  He has been under supported by the Athletico team.  You watch him with the Pool!  He is also very competitive and puts himself about which the Kop will like - he is not a prima donna type.

also a long time Liverpool fan which the fans will love.

He had "You'll Never Walk Alone" printed on the inside of his captains armband.

The rumour is that Atletico received a bigger offer for him but he said he would only consider the Reds offer.

OK, latest talk is that Liverpool have made an offer for Ajax winger Ryan Babel.

Apparently he was a standout for Holland at the U21 European Championship. Last season he made 27 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax scoring 5 goals.

Arsenal were linked with him but no word on whether they made an offer so we may be able get in there first.

"There will be a time that I will play at Arsenal. But there is nothing at the moment" - Babel, June 26 2007.

http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=337100

I realise that the trading season is one big rumour mill but I still find it odd that Babel would specifically mention Arsenal.  Perhaps that's why the price keeps rising for Liverpool? ;)

I'm not happy about this. Bellamy for Benayoun is a fu(king joke. I have never liked the crybaby and I doubt I ever will. I know my sentiments are shared by most other Hammers fans.

What about this:
Bought from Blackburn for 6m
Sold to Hammers for 7.5m
1.5m profit for 12 months. Not a bad investment.

That's 'cos Liverpool hadn't made a move for Babel at that time so he was probably resigned to having to settle for the arse.

Rick Parry quoted today
"We're not quite there with Ryan Babel yet, but we've now been given permission by Ajax to talk to the player. We hope to reach an agreement with Ajax very shortly."

Another signing for the Academy side:

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N156343070711-1023.htm

Liverpool have swooped to recruit another talented youngster after agreeing a deal with Milwall to sign striker David Amoo.

The highly promising 17-year old has joined for an undisclosed fee and will start training with his new team-mates at the Academy today.

Amoo was a prolific goalscorer for the Lions youth side last season and his signature was courted by a host of leading clubs.

The Academy's Head of Recruitment Malcolm Elias told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We are delighted to have completed the capture of David.

"He's an exciting young talent with fantastic physical prowess. He's a natural athlete who possesses great pace and has represented London as a sprinter at the English Schools National Track and Field Championships.

"Along with Marvin Pourie and Nathan Ecclestone he'll provide excellent competition for places among the first year boys in this season's under-18 set-up."

Its not often that a manager brings in an 'unknown' like Benayoun who adapts as quick as he did to life in the premiership. He was a real asset to us as I'm sure he will be to you. The only pleasing thing is that he didn't go to Spurs or Chelsea.

thanks for that. yea I rate him quite highly as one of those 'under'rated foreigners in the league you know. but I guess from various liverpool boards there's a bit of anxiety and confusion regarding his signing cos he's not a "superstar" (such an over used label I might add!).

But I'm quite excited by his arrival, I think he'll do good

Ryan Babel looks good in his highlights but if hes such a good striker or Henry like goal scorer, why did he only score 5 goals in 27 games. Looks more like a winger or second striker, more Van Persie than Henry. People have compared him to John Barnes, only time will tell.

But another expensive signing, buying potential.

Any new news on transfers? Recent rumours include Ricardo Quaresma, Mancini and Kompany among others.

Whats up with the squad numbers. Andriy Voronin gets 10, Yossi Benayoun is 11, Babel 19. Liverpool have no #1 or #2. Reina still 25 and Carson is 26.

I like the number 10 to be reserved for one of the top players. Voronin seems to be a squad player.

Happy to see Torres get Fowlers #9. From one class striker to another.

Haven't seen any more xfer news for a couple of days. Last I heard they were still chasing Heinze and maybe now the Copa America is over there might be some progress.

That's assuming that the mancs can actually bring themselves to sell a player to Liverpool.

mm maybe, I thought Babel would've got it. But I see your point although if they changed numbers a bit I would think Dirk should be #10.

Well what do you gusy thinks of this...
"

Harry Kewell has been on the possible targets of Greece Champions Olympiakos FC, after Liverpool's boss signed some world class players for the new season.

According to Greek media reports the Liverpool and Australia international, who has still a year left in his contract with the Reds, has a clause of approximately 1.5 million (about 2.5 million) which Olympiakos are seriously considering paying to Liverpool in order to sign the Socceroo.

The Greek team are under pressure to deliver some good results in the upcoming Champions League group stage, after a disappointing appearance in last season's tournament.

Following the news that a deal has not yet been reached with the team's striker Neri Castillo, who scored some impressive goals during the Copa America tournament in Venezuela, the team may well be looking to offset Kewell's fee from a possible deal with an English or European Club for Castillo.

Honestly I don't care.

If he stays and fights for his place then all good. But I just checked out some highlights of Babel and he is the real deal. He plays alot done the left flank and looks like the player Kewell should be. Beats players, gets the ball into the box and isn't scared to shoot.

With Benayoun or Pennant down the other flank and Torres and any of the other strikers up front we are gonna score a lot more goals this season.

Add that to the second best defence (on goals conceded) from last year and we're looking sweet.

Kewell has only really been a sick note at Liverpool, I really want to see him back to his best. I always imagine his goal he scored against Arsenal 30yards out on the left flank whips a shot across the face of goal into the far corner past Seaman (ah the Kewell of Leeds).

I'd be just as disappointed when Cisse left because I felt he could offer a lot to the team, but Cisse was on the other side of Rafa, while Harry seems to be on his good side.

Liverpool offered Man U 6m for Heinze which equals the mancs own valuation for the player.

Trouble is Ferg has tossed his toys and said that there is no way they will sell him to us.

Seen the new stadium designs?
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N156481070725-1100.htm

Looks ok, CAD images are pretty average though. random large steel bits look odd being so think and unnecessary, and could cause big shadows on the pitch.

Beat South China this morning, playing Pompey next in a "cup final"

Heinze case looks interesting, if he comes he would be starting left back, people don't want Man U players but he's quality, better than Evra and Silvestre at Man U so baffling. Maybe Fergie knows something we don't.

So are you a draughtsman too, Linds? I thought the same about the images. (Imagine having to render 60,000 seats though, you'd need a super-computer, hence the flat, terrace-like stands). I like the design though, a bit different, and 18,000 in the new steep Kop section is going to be awesome.

I wonder if Liverpool will be treated as a poor & nearly bankrupt after the stadium is built. From those designs it doesnt look like its going to be a cheap upgrade, similar to the Emirates stadium.

dats true, but we got capital from our very friendly long term investors in the form of our american owners, which is something that Arsenal didn't have when they dived into building their new stadium.

I think the reported price has been quoted at around 300million pound maybe. now if we consider the average money spent on tickets at around 15 pound, then for a 60000 seater, we could speculate that money from ticket sales alone after one season would be around 32.4mil and that's not including the home champs league games. Not not including wateva share various sponsors and the like take out of that, I put it that ticket sales alone could possibly pay off the price of the stadium after mybe 10/11 years.

rough estimates of course, and yes the price will probably increase as they look to increase the size of the stadium, but I think that's a pretty good investment into a a football club that will win things consistently over many years. not just have 2 or 3 years runs like arsenal . . . .

and the other thing you forget is while that revenue would pay for the stadium, what revenue would you then spend on player wages and transfers?
