One of the thing I think a lot of people are upset about is the ability to record and watch later. When the game you follow is 12 hrs behind timezone-wise, watching live ain't always a great option.

No clue if that would be the right price but it is nice to see someone looking towards the future. TV streamed & on demand online is definitely the future.

Will the content be in HD, will it be viewable on Mac? I normally watch 2-3 games a week plus the highlights show. 6-7 hours of HD content a week will destroy my internet bandwidth in the first week... So it will cost substantially more than $180-200 as I'll have to pay more for the internets. All the internets.

Plus Sky for A-League, All Whites, World Cups, UEFA competitions.... Suddenly it it getting expensive to be a football lover... And harder to justify to the missus.

Coliseum has fairly and squarely won the rights but I hope they go bankrupt in the first month. Not convinced a startup will do it properly. And, like previously said, I don't want to watch a grainy, pixelated, blurry image on my laptop that is constantly buffering*.

* assumption based on current iSky performance

I hope Sky fold and we get someone that's not up the arse of the NZRU as the monopoly provider of sport on TV...

Or, I hope Sky finally gives up and becomes the Rugby Channel and the other footy rights go elsewhere.

But in the meantime, I'm kind of excited about this. And the internets are pretty cheap and coming down in price all day every day.

I am perplexed by the fact that everyone is sad to see the back of Sky. They've been c*nts to football for years.

As I tweeted their claim to want to "assure our football loving subscribers that this does not signal a change in our wishes to secure the best football matches that we can for you" is absolute horse-shit. They have never tried to give good football coverage.

Remember: no Confeds Cup, no U20 WC, delayed Phoenix matches, no AWs games, etc etc etc.

We fear the unknown.
It is damn convenient waking up Sunday morning and playing the game from the night before.
They haven't come out with details yet, so all the 'features' of Sky's coverage might be doable still, and then sun.
But until we know more, well it's the end of the bloody world.

The only thing stopping me cancelling Sky Sport right now is that they still have the A-League. But I will still wait and see what else comes to market and maybe just stream A-League next year.

I was perfectly happy with their EPL coverage (which I the point). Mysky etc. I am not watching footy on the interwebs (unless I really have to)

This and that Sky CEO was an absolute muppet. "Oh Smithy (Ian on Livesport) you probably know more about that than me" to a comment about how the pay tv/online deals work...

If that's the case - BRILLIANT - but its hard to see they would only charge $200 a year for potentially unlimited football...

Hard enough to justify SKY to the Missus as it is at the moment - let alone more costs for sport on TV!

Doesn't Sommet Sports have the Bundesliga rights? It would probably be that deal NZ Football was sorting with Sky. Or a delayed start for the u20 WC coverage?

A Wellington Phoenix game rates higher than the top 4 EPL games in any weekend put together. Fascinating.

Haven't listened yet but is he talking live or combined (MySky & replays)?

My understanding of how Sky counts those ratings is yes - it's total number of subscribers to view a programme.

I series link the A -League each season. but only record or watch 1 EPL game per weekend but may catch another 2 on replay.

From sky's rating system A-league on that basis is 5/1 better ?

by which time the Tigers could .. arghhhh

so much for the August 17/18 date that is highlighted on our calendar! (winter from hell, with no redemption in sight. - poetic ramblings, mad mutterings ...

So new consortium has Serie A, Ligue 1 & EPL (Is chasing La Liga)

Sky has All Whites (2012), A-League + Champs League & MLS through ESPN

Sommet has Bundesliga, Championship, League 1, League 2, Europa League, League Cup & Argentinian League (Also FA Cups from around the world, Chelsea TV & looking to get one other club to allow two delayed games a week)

Hmmm I think looking at this that Sky may have some competition for the WC coverage as well.

From articles today Coliseum is in talks with at least one Telco about broadcasting in different mediums...(Vodafone? Looking to add some different stuff to their Telstra TV?), or are they just talking internet & phones?

You’ll need an account to join the conversation!
