Make sure you contact Sommet Sports on Facebook to help register the level of interest in football as they say they will respond to which sports people want to see - more responses from football fans = more football. e.g. people have suggested they want to see La Liga from Spain, so they say they are looking at obtaining coverage.

Not british football per se, but as pointed out by andrew gourdie on twitter espn have ditched their own commentators it seems. No more tommy smyth wid a y talking about an auld onion bag.

edit: seems it's only for some games. Mark Donaldson and Steve Nicol on the Celtic v Milan game.

Sunday game this week on TV One =  Liverpool v Southampton 12 pm

I find the numerous ad breaks annoying - so will watch it / record it on Sommet Sports at 10.30 pm Sunday.

They are having three hour broadcasts for Liverpool's games on Sommet with lots of interviews and highlight clips from this and previous years and club history.

Probably prefer it to Chelsea TV which can be a bit dry and full of pundits droning on endlessly with no match clips.

I find the match commentary okay on both - not obnoxiously partisan anyway.

The female hosts on both channels are nice !!!

Don't forget, if you're a Sky Sport subscriber, you can access ESPN3 on iSky online (just go to http://www.isky.co.nz/  and register)

ESPN3 football on demand includes Spanish, German, EPL, Italian, Dutch, MLS league highlights, plus some internationals highlights, Champions League highlights (including the Champions League Highlights Show)

Sometimes there's some live football, though it's rare. At least in the States the schedule says ESPN3 has the Football Ferns games live this week from Switzerland (Ferns v Brazil and China are on Sky Sport by the way).

Go to ESPN3 and click on "Football" in the right-hand menu.

Another disappointing hilites package on One tonight which I have stayed up past my bed time for.

About 25 minutes on the Manchester Derby, 10 on Arsenal and a brief showing of the Satdy games over the top of some dodgy music.

I miss the old show and Sky having football.

It's what you'd be getting on sky. it's the same show, except now by pure coincidence they produce 3 different review shows, one from saturday games, another from sunday games (which also has some of saturday) that's the one on tv 1. and also one after the monday night game (if there is one) which works in the same way as the sunday show. previously they just produced the one show after the sunday games which aired on sky on a monday night I believe. with just the one show they had a balance between all games with them all getting roughly the same air time. Of course if sky had the rights they'd now be able to show each of the different shows but of course they don't have the rights. TV One could show the saturday review show on monday nights to get more airtime but then the sunday games would be missed. You can't please everyone.

I thing I can't stand about this highlights package is the trend now to show the limited highlights games (the ones that take 2-3mins on total) in a 'stylish trendy' style, and by that I mean showing the game from all kinds of angles, putting a filter over the picture etc.

Does my head, why cant they just show the video as it would've been shown if we were watching live...

Yeah, I hate the new highlights show too - very brief coverage of most games after the two games they concentrate on - and always hate highlights set to music and gimmicky visual tricks. Why change what was already a good product?

One thing that's good though is that you can find the highlights show (until Friday midnight) and the Sunday lunchtime game (for two weeks) on the TVNZ website if you missed it initially. Sometimes on Sky I used to be pissed off if I forgot the highlights show and it wasn't repeated that much.

Saw this today, pretty much every game from the main leagues by the looks available to download.

Two options for EPL games 1)HD so big files (4.5gb) but quality should be good (720p)...2) also SD available too (1.2gb)

Slow download times though.

Former Canterbury United and Nelson Suburbs player Tommy Lancaster, Caversham player Nick Brandford and Wellington player Geoff Brown will be on the "FIFA Football Mundial" magazine show which is debuting on Sommet Sports this week.

It will show Lancaster & Brandford playing and Brown coaching at Buckingham Palace for Polytechnic FC v  Civil Service FC in the game to mark the foundation of the Football Association in 1863. Polytech won 2-1. World Cup Final ref Howard Webb officiated. Michael Owen was in attendance.

Lancaster...said there had been "quite a bit of media attention".

World football governing body Fifa's Mundial television network was "coming down to do a bit of filming at our next training".

"No doubt we will be pretty nervous on the day with a few cameras there."

Just edited my above post of weekend's TV football schedule to update:

Changes are:

Sommet - Netherlands v Hungary now 11 am Sat.

ESPN - Spain v Belarus now 8.55 am Sat.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Also Sommet have just announced on their Facebook they are coming to Freeview satellite soon:

Sommet Sports

Sommet Sports will be going on the Freeview Satellite platform. We will be able to give you a launch date soon.

Sommet replies about scheduling changes at times:

Andrew Yip Is there a reason why, sometimes scheduled games listed on the freeview guide is incorrect? I find it quite annoying when I am expecting a soccer match, but then it is something completely different  October 8 at 9:30pm

  •  Sommet Sports  All LIVE events are on time. We have problems if the LIVE events over run and also if the content that we are receiving is delayed. We have one channel and we are trying to please as many sports fans as possible  October 8 at 10:03pm

Sorry if this is a daft question, but I haven't been very active on here until recently and there may be rules around this sort of thing.

Are we allowed to discuss 'downloading' options for football matches ? I ditched Sky at the end of last season and am about to ditch CSM as well because the quality is abysmal and I've now found a better way to watch my football without streaming a tiny little window on a tablet.

I'm sure plenty of people are aware of the options, but my particular one works well and it might be worth sharing.

Cheers

Sweet,

News, I hope your lawyer is as good as mine :)

I've been on Maxxed Football forums (www.fbtz.com) for a few years to get the games I couldn't see on Sky. I log into my server when I wake up, check the Arsenal threads (the game is always posted by then) and decide which one I want. I haven't had a bad quality game yet and the 720p ones have been excellent.

I use the Hotfile links as they give you the option to save to a free pCould account. The 'transfer' to pCould takes a minute or two for a 600MB file, and I then download from pCould using Firefox with the DownThemAll OneClick! extention to a directory my HTPC accesses. The whole process only takes a couple of minutes. That's to get it downloading not to download a 600MB file !

I tried a few of the paid download options but never found them fast enough and the pCould option has been great since I first tried it a few weeks ago.

So by the time I've made myself and the wife a cuppa, checked any pre-game banter on twitter and done my fatherly duties by reading my little one a story or two the first half has downloaded (it can max out my 7Mb connection but not always). The second half is ready by the time I've finished watching the first half.

The picture quality is always excellent its just the audio which changes. The US ones are usually ex-second rate footballers, the UK ones are often SkySports commentators (much of the same really!).

Job done.

Curious as to some of the football information provided on the new website, which looks great btw. You have listed Scottish FA Cup, Argentinean League, German FA Cup, Chinese FA Cup, but we don't seem to have had any of those. I appreciate that you are showing heaps of football already, and love it. Just wondering if there are plans to show any of the aforementioned competitions. Also, do I understand correctly that you cannot show the League Cup Final, or the play-off final?Like ·  · 17 hours ago near Auckland

Also ESPN have a good FA Cup highlights show during the week after each round.

Next round FA Cup 26th, 27th January - six games live.

Also this week: another edition of "FIFA Greatest Matches" 11 pm Monday - England v Argentina 1986 World Cup

(full match). Great occasional series of complete classic World Cup matches.

Wednesday 11 pm - Another good series on ESPN: "National Icons" - each episode compares and contrasts two legends from a country e.g. Gascoigne v Rooney; Bergkamp v Van Persie; Maradona v Messi etc.

Keep checking the electronic program guide as they are broadcasting some good football history series like these (all British shows)
