Also must be that Liverpool FC failed to provide the Liverpool v Stoke game on time, hence re-scheduled to 8 pm tonight...

English Premier League clubs = loads of money but can't be bothered about fans in obscure distant country like NZ

Really?! Are we buying the company line on that one? Because that smells fishy, and I won't eat it.

Looks like the game kicked off pretty much straight away. There was some u21 highlights. Then they had an interview with a player but I had to go out, so don't know what else was on there

Thanks for all the info you have shared on here Pete. It's been very much appreciated. The A League is the only reason I am keeping up with Sky Sport. Thank God I can get Sommet in HD and watch the various Championship games.

agree with that.Sommet is so good..if sky stop showing live games towards the end of the season I will be returning it...show most matches live all season until the final 5-6 rounds when we get delayed coverage..... when league and rugby starts

Sommet Sport really do need to upgrade their home page. Perhaps a proper guide that is very up to date would be helpful.

I am finding their promise of championship football underwhelming..in the face of Bundesliga and now Liverpool and Chelsea.  Seem to be following the money or fans, not being an alternative football provider.  Bouncing all over the place and the home page, threads and programme guide is hard to follow and rely on.  Good to see other sports eg MotoGP tho.

Biased commentary to be expected on club channels, not sure if people expected anything else?

As James Dean said, you should expect that all EPL on sky will be pretty amateur this season.

In saying that, the graphics/music etc on PLP is pretty mid-nineties-ish. I thought they'd be getting the same as Sky last season - with that Kasabian theme song etc. The highlights show on TV One on Monday night still had that same theme, so not sure what's going on there.

The plp graphics/music is different from sky's cause its different for all broadcasters taking the world feed. The people producing the world feed changed it all, still not sure weather I like the new graphics.

I dont understand.

TVNZ get their highlights show from PLP, the same provider who provides the live matches - and the highlights show has the same old look/feel, with the Kasabian theme song etc. But live PLP games themselves have a different theme song, an anthem of sorts.

Last season when Sky had the rights, all games opened with the Kasabian theme song, same as the highlights show.

Why is this different now? i.e. why are they creating different music for the two mediums?

Sorry if your post explains it but I couldn't make sense of what you wrote.

I just had a look at the review show on tvnz on-demand. it seems it has got the same feel as last seasons intro to it, but they've re made the whole thing with the promoted sides appearing and have kept the same music comparison here old: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGRbry0pZZQ and new: http://tvnz.co.nz/english-premier-league/s2013-epround-1-video-5536837. but the intro into actual games has changed see the old one here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1RtEQ6ly3Q and the new one at the start here http://tvnz.co.nz/english-premier-league/s2013-ep1-video-5535686 and yeah I think I liked the old one better.

I think it's just coincidence that the producers of it changed it now. nothing to do with change from sky to plp.

Just a suggestion for those already with Sky or those considering it (especially when the A-League starts) - this is the cheapest way to get Sky Sport:

Full price direct from Sky: Sky + Sport is $882 / annum (Basic = $47 x 12 = $564 + Sport = $ 26.50 x 12 = $318)

You can actually pay less than that if you get Sky through Vodafone on a "Naked Broadband" package which is what I was on:

Then you can choose the option to get Sky Sport half-price for $13 / month: You would then pay $723 / annum for Sky + Sport ($60 / month):

SKY Discounts (Vodafone Naked Broadband):

Add SKY to your Vodafone bill when you sign up and get one of these great SKY with Vodafone discounts:

  • Half price SKY Sport every month, OR
  • MY SKY HDi upgrade for free (normally $15), OR
  • MY SKY+ for $5 (normally $20) every month
I was also only paying $25 / month for my home phone (home phone wireless).

I only switched when I ditched Sky entirely last year and took up a ridiculously cheap offer with another company of $65 / month for 30 GB broadband and home phone.

But if you want half-price Sky Sport, Vodafone's definitely the way to go...I'll be going back to that in the new year.

(Naked Broadband currently offers 50 GB = $55, 200 GB =  $65  400 GB = $75 per month)

Mind me asking what your monthly Vodaphone bill is?? I'm paying $150 Per month. This includes 10 gig Broadband, telephone, Cable TV, Sky sports. There has to be something cheaper

We've been with Vodafone for the last few years.

Our monthly bill minus toll calls is $198.37, it covers the phone line, 80 gigs of broadband, Sky + Sky Sports and multiroom; we also get the HD ticket and MySky for free.

Not the cheapest I'm sure, but living outwith the big cities means that the bulk of my entertainment is home-based. Probably going to have to look at cutting back next year as I'll be leaving the nest and heading to Hamilton to study, mother doesn't use the net so the 80 gigs will be getting wasted.

Fingers crossed the Wi-Fi at Wintec will be good enough to stream the football!

I'm paying $65/ month currently for land line and 30 GB broadband with Telstra-Clear for one year but that was a special offer and no longer exists (as Telstra-Clear have been swallowed by Vodafone). I pay for Sky direct from Sky ($47/ month) and don't have Sky Sport at present. So that makes $112/ month (would be $138/ month if I had Sky Sport)

I'll be going back to Vodafone soon because my 12 month contract with Telstra-Clear expires and I want to get Sky Sport for the All Whites, A-League etc. This Naked Broadband package is available in most larger towns - check if you can get it on their website.

What I'll be paying with Vodafone: Home Phone wireless (functions like a land line except it's wireless - no charge for local calls, can use a phone card for tolls still) = $25/ month

Naked Broadband (this whole package is for those who don't require a land line - hence cheaper - using Home Phone wireless as above or a cell phone) - discounted if you have an "On Account" mobile phone plan with Vodafone or Home Phone Wireless:

50 GB = $55    200 GB = $65  400 GB = $75

Sky Sport half price offer = $13 / month (" Add a new or existing SKY subscription to your Vodafone Naked Broadband or Ideal, Ultimate Choice or Mega broadband and home phone pack. You’ll immediately qualify for one of these great ‘SKY with Vodafone’ offers – half price SKY Sport, free monthly upgrade to MY SKI HDi or MY SKY+ for just $5)

So, with Sky TV Basic package direct from Sky (Basic = $47/ month)

TOTAL: $25 (Home phone wireless) + $55 (Naked broadand 50 GB) + Sky Basic = $47 + Sky Sport = $13

= $140 / month for the whole lot

$10 / month cheaper than what you're on now and you'll get 50 GB instead of only 10

eh?

I been watching it the last cupla weeks and thought it was the same as Sky's H/L show last year i.e. shows Saturday and Sunday games. Haven't watched last night's yet, have it recorded for watching tonight. Will be interesting to see. There were only 3 games on Sunday UK time - are you saying they only showed the highlights to 3 games?

I've only watched the 2nd one, and it certainly had Citeh v Cardiff and Spurs v Swansea, both of which were played Monday morning (NZ Time)...as well the other 7 games played on the Sunday morning (NZT), the only one it didnt have (which is the same as what SKY used to show) is the game played on the Tuesday morning here.

Would hardly be surprising if Colesium gave them the wrong one though given the unprofessional way they've been conducting themselves, as from what I understand they do get a highlights package after each days play...

I watched it last night, had recorded it from Monday night. All games were shown - but the three sunday games were first, with extended highlights which was painful - winning corners apparently constituted a highlight in the ManU/Liverpool game. then the 6 saturday games were flicked through very quickly at the end, within about 15 mins for the whole lot.

Yer that's what I meant. I watched the show and it was called the 'Sunday Review' which showed in detail the 3 games on their Sunday, and when I posted my last comment the highlights of those games had gone on for so long I thought that was all their was. Then they showed the other games really quickly.

It's definitely different to the highlights package we used to get which was a highlight on my Monday at 7pm!

Agree. I asked PLP on twitter, and they said its the Monday review on PLP that us on TV 1, and maintain its the same as what was on sky last year. I disagreed, it's definitely different.

Sky had highlights slightly focusing more on the games of the weekend, then going over the rest of the games in enough time (not rushed).

Tv1/PLP has extended highlights of the Monday morning games (over half an hour worth) then very quickly skim through the rest.

I miss the old one. Have to watch 2 highlights shows now to get my highlight fix of games.

They have just kept the Kasabian theme, slightly modified and with a new graphics intro for the highlights shows.

Just did a decent deal with Vadfone/Telstra-Clear. $150 per month for:

60gig Broadband, TBox recorder/decoder, Sky with Sky Sports, Telephone, Free Installation. Gonna do the job Monday AM. The $150 is what I am currently paying them but I now get an 50 extra GIG AND a decoder/recorder so I can record Sky. My bluray player which also has my UHF aerial attached gives me freeview including HD Sommet Sports so I almost getting the best of both worlds.
