Says in the Collegian (WC magazine) that Lewis Williams-Gray has been called up for to the NZSS team to tour Europe. So there's a Coll boy in the side.

Northern Ireland vs NZSS
The game opened with some good scoring chances in the first 5mins but after that NI took control of the game ,and it wasnt untill the last part of the second half when some changes were made that NZ got into the game Result 3-1.
Yet Northern Irelands second goal was so far offside the assistant ref mast have been blind to miss to which the officals replied he was 65
IN all the traveling and haveing to back up 2 games in a row paid its toll on the boys whom showed great heart and keep fighting till the end

next game vs Republic Ireland the hardest game of the tour

You're a lunatic then.  Rongotai has been a production line of talent over the years - both Rufers, Utting...then more recently Eagar and in the current squad Aleem Sheik.

Always a sign of top drawer coaching when they sl*g their players off behind their backs.

Or maybe it's a sign of a massive yarn.

Dan's a good player.

Was a game were ROI dominated the first half and were not for the keeperMax Tommy and some good defensive work from the left back Jordan Swaney could of been down by 2
Second half started same way untill with 30mins to go they made a couple of subs and changed to a 442, which paid imediate dividends with sammy margetts getting the first goal 5mins latter NZ only just missed getting a second. A needless foul in the box lead to the penalty and then the irish put a good period of play together to get there second.
The kiwi boys took it to the irish for the last 8mins and got the equalizer in the last few seconds of injury time, a fair result in the end

South Wales Schools vs NZSS
The welsh started a little more aggesive than the kiwis at first and got a well worked goal on the 20min mark, was 1nil at half time with the welsh keeper making two vevy good diving saves and coming strong out of his box to save a potential 1on1
NZ got the better of many periods in the second half and Rio Dhat scored to make it 1all, the kiwis had a few free kicks near the end of the game with sum very dodgy takling been done on our boys but couldnt find that winning goal

they play the full welsh side tomorrow night

Close encounter in Coolock

Republic of Ireland.2 New Zealand..2

The Republic of Ireland Under-18 Schools team played out an exciting draw against New Zealand today in their opening game of the season at the Oscar Traynor Centre in Dublin.

Hugh Colhouns Irish side were unlucky not to be ahead at the break but they conceded against the run of play just past the hour mark before staging a late comeback and then getting pegged back in injury-time.

The friendly game was the first of a hectic schedule of the Republic of Ireland Schools team, who will defend their Centenary Shield title early in the new year, and Colhoun will have seen plenty from his side against the Kiwis to be optimistic about.

The lively Shane Howard produced Irelands first chance on ten minutes after he raced past two defenders and curled a left-footed shot just over the bar from 20 yards.

New Zealand were restricted to long-range efforts in the first half and Ireland goalkeeper David Quirke had to be alert to turn Ethan Cains effort from outside of the box around the post four minutes later.

Cillian Morrison, one of two representatives from Ulster in the Irish squad, fashioned Irelands nearest opening to breaking the deadlock with 32 minutes gone when he dribbled around a couple of defenders on the edge of the penalty box and clipped the ball beyond the advancing Max Tommy in the New Zealand goal.

Unluckily for the striker, his good work was undone as Jordan Swaney scampered back to clear the goal-bound shot off the line.

Ireland failed to build on the encouraging opening 45 minutes and were punished midway through the second half.

New Zealand striker Sam Margetts broke free on the right side and rounded goalkeeper Quirke. Ireland defender Jason Dwane tracked the run of Margetts but could only divert the ball into his own net.

The opener gave the tourists a level of confidence they lacked earlier in the match and they might have extended their lead as Daniel Finlay drilled wide.

Ireland got forward in numbers following that scare and were presented with an opportunity of equalising on 80 minutes when substitute Shane Murray (pictured above) was tripped inside the area by Jordan Swaney following a probing through-ball from captain Jason Hughes.

Murray, of Arklow Community College, confidently converted the penalty into the bottom left corner to set up a grand finale.

Ireland seized the momentum by taking the lead for the first time in the match with three minutes remaining. Eoin Hanrahan cut the ball back from the end-line and there to steer the ball home from close-range was another substitute, Jimmy Keohane.

An eventful game had more thrills in store when New Zealand defender Anthony Hobbs was left unmarked inside the penalty area to head past substitute goalkeeper Ryan OFlaherty in the final passage of play.

The Republic of Ireland have a busy schedule ahead of them in the new year. They open the defence of their Centenary trophy against Wales on Thursday, February 26 in Wexford (7pm), before travelling to take on Northern Ireland and Scotland in March before completing their programme against England at Buckley Park, Kilkenny in April.

Republic of Ireland: David Quirke (St. Patricks Navan); Jason Dwane (St. Peters, Dunboyne), Garvan Broughall (Athlone Community College), Neil Harney (St. Aloysius College), Eoghan Osbourne (Colaiste Ris, Dundalk); Gary Burke (Larkin Community College), Danny Fallon (Sancta Maria College, Louisburgh), Jason Hughes (CBS Sexton St, Limerick), Brian Gaffney (St. Josephs, Galway); Cillian Morrison (St. Eunans, Letterkenny), Shane Howard (Colaiste Eoin, Carlow).
Substitutions: Carl Forsyth (Cabinteely CS) for Burke (46 mins), Shane Murray (Arklow CC) for Howard and Eoin Hanrahan (CBS Sexton Street, Limerick) for Gaffney (both 67 mins), Ryan OFlaherty (St. Kevins CBS) for Quirke (76 mins), Jimmy Keohane (CBS Kilkenny) for Dwane (81 mins), Jonathan Bonner (Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana) for Morrison (84 mins).

New Zealand: Max Tommy; Caleb Duncan, Anthony Hobbs, Chris Fernando, Jordan Swaney; Ryan Cain, Joseph Dawkin, Lewis Williams-Gray, Ethan Cain; Rio Dhat, Sam Margetts.

Wales 1 - 1 NZSS
This was a very evenly contested game played at Port Talbot Wales under lights at a very chily 7pm
Wales scored first then samy Margetts got the equalizer 10mins later, with 5 to go before half time Dan Finlay carved up through the middle of five welsh defenders before laying off a ball to the right winger(was filming so couldnt see who it was) whom powered a shot in low and hard which was only just tipped around the post by the very good welsh keeper.
The second half caried on the same way with both sides having periods of domination, a very excelent game to watch.
Max Tommy carried on with his excelent form in goal should have a very promising future

In the last International fixture of the tour the NZSS U19's have had a 1-1 draw with Wales Schoolboys.

Draws seem pretty popular

Yesterday
West Bromich Albion Accademy vs NZSS
Played out towards Walsal at their very impresive training centre
This was the hardest game yet with WBA having 60% of the possesion and scored on the 15min mark NZSS almost replied straight away with Sam Margetts only being denied by the advancing 6'6" irish keeper, WBA then scored their second just before half time
In the second half WBA caried on the same with nice passing yet few scoring oppertunites each of which Max Tommy took care of with very good possitioning and afew good diving saves, even with all that possesion the NZ side still managed to make a few chances and every time they had the ball looked very threatening with two good chances in the last 10mins which realy should of been put away, one of which was an open goal which Rio Dhat missed after some good interpassing by Ben Fredrickson and Regan Steele
MOM Max Tommy
There has been quite a few US colledge scouts following the team and certianly some interest in some of the boys

Is he the kid with the long throw? I saw him score direct of a throw from 35 odd metres this year, but it was correctly disallowed bacause it wasn't touched.

Okay. Anyone know any of these players? Or where they're going or what they're doing?

The only one I know is Lachie McIsaac. Hamilton's finest.

That Calvin Lee must be some player. Last time I looked Dilworth School play in the Auckland SS 3rd tier.

I watched Saint Kents play Dilworth in round 1 of the Knockout Cup, and although a huge score line, there were a few really tidy players in the Dilworth side. I wonder if he plays club senior men though, as most of the lower tier schools better players do here in Auckland.

This selection though raises the age old issue of two tiers of football representation, as none of the Under 17s from last years Chile campaign or those in the current 20s wider squad still at school, trialled for this tour. But great to give more lads exposure at the next level.

Calvin was at Ellerslie early this season and in previous seasons was playing U19's as wasn't able to play on Saturday's due to school.

This season we only had 1 U19 team and we had one Keegan Smith (now with the nix academy) in goal for U19's so Calvin moved to Eastern Suburbs where I believe he plays U19's
