As nobody has done this yet, how about the traditional "predict the finishing order this season" thread?

Mods please lock this before the games start this weekend.

1. Sydney

2. Melbourne Victory

3. Melbourne City

4. Adelaide

5. Wanderers

6. Wellington

7. Perth

8. Newcastle

9. Central Coast

A week ago this would have been my prediction:

.

1. Sydney

2. Melbourne Victory

3. Wanderers

4. Adelaide

5. Melbourne City

6. Wellington

7. Brisbane

8. Central Coast

9. Perth

10. Newcastle

.

However with Poppa doing a runner and ditching WSW its probably unlikely they'll get third despite the strength of their squad. I'll keep them there though, because i feel like they're still in the same ballpark as Adelaide and City. Put us in 6th because I don't want to start the season as a cynic (but Central Coast or Brissy could give us some trouble and secretly I think we could easily end up 7th or 8th)

My 100% accurate league table for this season:

1. City 2. Sydney 3. Victory 4. Glory  5. WSW 6. Phoenix 7. Jets 8 Adelaide 9. CCM 10. Brisbane

Sydney: Retained the bulk of their Premiership winning team, Mierzejewski looks a quality addition, squad depth come ACL time maybe an issue
WSW: Quality recruitment in the Off Season, little travel outside NSW, no ACL to worry about, Popa leaving late dropped them down a place
Victory: Finally replaced Milligan by re-signing Milligan, still lacking a LB, quality starting XI but depth come ACL time a worry
Adelaide:
Killing it in preseason, retained Baba & Isaias, added some quality looking visas, putting them this high on gut feeling
City: Not impressed by Buddy's CV, McCormack will help negate no Bruno until Jan, still dont think they can win outside Melbourne
Brisbane: Lost 29/43 goals in the offseason, no Broich no Brisbane? Skapetis looking good, can Dads Army deal with the heat & ACL?
CCM: Brama/Hiariej/DDS looks a quality midfield, Asdrubal - awesome or abysmal? Where will the other goals come from?
Glory: Can Keogh & Taggart learn to play together? Will Castro turn up before January? Does the Glory have any defenders?
Jets: Vargas a massive gamble? Wasting 2 visa slots, Who scores the goals apart from O’Donovan? Will Ernie give up if things get hard?
Phoenix: Sad Face Emoji

JW Medal:
Matmour
Golden Boot: Berisha
Coach: Arnie
U23: Skapetis
GK: Janjetovic
Fair Play: CCM

WSW were originally gonna finish 3rd before the Popa bombshell.

Looking at all the other squads, we're fudgeed, on paper at least. Though the history of the A-League suggests that thanks to the salary cap; coaching and having the right squad (as opposed to the best squad) can make all the difference. So maybe there is hope to avoid the spoon.

A-League 2017-18 Season Preview - Commentary Box Sports

By a kiwi guy and also he's made some pretty bad calls in there, AU 7th seems unlikely as does City at 3rd.

This is probably one of the hardest off seasons to pick. I'm expecting us to be in the finals mix come the end of the year but that's about it.

I was listening to the 442 podcast and they had us dead last, their only quote was "absolutely no redeeming features" :)

Right now I am with Detoxin - sounds about right, except maybe Wanderers drop even lower towards the fag end of the season, while conversely Roar may conceivably get their sh*t together late in the season.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

City are apparently in absolute shambles atm. I wouldn't be surprised to see them outside the six.

Are you serious? Adelaide are a top 4 squad, no question. Gulum, Matmour. Absalonsen, Diawarra, Adlung, Isais - They're stacked, no chance of finishing 8th

We don't know how good heaps of those players are though and we on't know how well they will work with each other.

looked over the next seven fixtures (bringing us to 10 games played) and by predicting the outcomes I believe this to be the most likely points total heading into round 11.

HYUNDAI A-LEAGUE LADDER AFTER ROUND 10

.

Sydney: 24

Adelaide: 20

City:19

Melbourne: 17

WSW: 16

Wellington: 13

.

Newcastle: 11

Perth: 6

CCM: 5

Brisbane: 1

.

Looks crazy that Brisbane could potentially have only a point from 10 games, but none of the teams they will face in the next seven games I can see Brisbane beating. Potentially could have a couple more points from scrappy draws, but 3 points max. As for Newcastle, I can see their form tapering off massively. They've had a great start but they've had pretty easy opposition, and a long run of tough games plus an injury to Ronnie Vargas could seriously stall their season.Come the end of the season I can see it being a battle between WSW, City and Adelaide for 3rd and 4th, and the last play off spot being battled out between the Nix and Newy, and maybe one of either Perth or CCM

I wasn't too bad actually apart from the massively wrong guess of where the Jets would end up.

Everyone got surprised by the Jets, until chefmivec I had only seen 2 people pick the Jets to make the 6 (both went for 5th)

I was wondering how that would all shakedown..happy with second loser position?  Well done to joint winners and chefmivec with Jets..Would have been good odds at TAB.
