I really think temporary stands along the sides and, possibly, the ends (@ the RoF) would probably be the most practical and cost effective option - a mini version of what they do at Etihad.
Hopefully this and other options will be seriously looked at by the new stadium management.

Can anyone repeat for me what are the average weekly crowed numbers in the other professional sports in NZ like Cricket, Rugby to put into persective.

Ha! Way worse than the A-League and less than the Vietnamese Football League, "Rabodirect Pro 12" rugby union league of Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Italy; English League One etc. - or even Polish motorcycle speedway.
A-League isn't doing too bad - more than Spanish Second Division, French Ligue 1 or the Austrian Bundesliga:

Only the Black caps are fully professional - the six regional sides who make up the first class, one day and T20 national cricket competitions are mostly composed of amateur or semi-pro players with a handful of professionals. Attendances at Plunket Shield first class games are often less than one hundred on a day. Domestic one day games ("Ford Trophy"), a few hundred to a few thousand, fluctuating wildly.
In summer 2009-2010 the HRV Cup national T20 comp averaged 2950
6200 – The highest number to turn out for one game, played in Mt Maunganui.
4500 – The number who turned out for the Central-Auckland HRV Cup final in New Plymouth.
By 2012-2013 Auckland were attracting an average of 6000 to its three T20 home games at Eden Park.
Of course, it's not a domestic competition but if you want to consider the "Super 15" rugby it's also on the table: in 2013 average of 20,284 (similar to Argentinian Primera Division and not far behind Serie A but ahead of the Eredivisie and Ligue 1)
So that would mean DESPITE our sliding crowd numbers of the last 2 seasons our numbers still make us a pretty substantial spectator event in NZ.
Getting our figures up to 10,000 on average next season would be a big challenge, but quite possible. You only need a couple of stand-out games (i.e. Finals playoffs) to boost the average attendance figures at the business end of the season.
If Nix and Melbourne Heart/City significantly boosted their attendance (not at all impossible) then A-League averages would close in on the NRL (15,000 odd) and things would then get very interesting in terms of Oz/NZ media coverage and priorities.

The Phoenix are actually one of the most resilient at the Stadium. Our average crowds have hovered around where they are pretty much since season one.

Maybe we should start calling all whites friendlies "tests" instead.

I'm with you on that one, the 3 test series vs Ireland gets huge hype, but a friendly against Japan, meh it's just a friendly...umm no clue. (I like off topic discussions - Mods take control)
I do not think it is off topic - it has to do with crowds in a broad sense. It ties in with my perennial hobby horse of complaining about the media coverage. A-League games appear to be well attended (on average), while not beating any records. However, the media (mostly TV) seem to shape the perception of HAL football as a minor fringe interest. Just two weeks ago Radio Sport was covering live the domestic cricket game (I think Otago Volts against someone) while the Nix game was on in Welly.

I like netball.
I sort of enjoy playing netball (any excuse to wear a skirt)
But find it a horrible sport to watch. Just seems like a slower version of football, without contact, stupid restrictions on where on the court players can go and mostly comes down to how good your shooter is. I could have the silver ferns as the rest of my team, but with me as shooter we'd lose.

Just saw the seat covers they are using for the sevens. The multi coloured section definitely helps break up the sea of yellow nicely. Helps hide the fact that no one is there yet
