The good news for #NFFC keeps coming as Chris Wood has reported to have agreed to a new 2 year contract.
Wood has arguably been the most clinical striker in the league this season, ranking as one of the best for Goals per 90 despite being one of the lowest for Touches in the… pic.twitter.com/E2kefhovRT
And he’s living that one piece of advice he gave strikers- if you’re good with one peg, work really hard on the other. He’s scored a couple of very good left footed goals this season and last.
I was at the city ground for last weekend’s game against Southampton. Great atmosphere and as you can imagine they love Wood. Tense at the end with a truly terrible Southampton team somehow turning 3-0 in to 3-2, but a great day out. Good to see a well deserved contract extension!
Forest worked their way back into the game, but Wood hasn’t touched the ball once that I’ve seen. Lots of dubious long shots. The latest from Murillo, which is usually fun at 2 goals up, but his team mates do not appreciate it at 1-0 down.
Forest with something of a response, but missing Hudson-Odoi. They seem ponderous or sluggish compared to their opponents who are just fizzing everywhere and seem fitter and faster, both of foot and of thought. Nuno seething. Think we’ll see much more of a response after the break. Still 1-0 to Bournemouth.
Glad I missed that second half. Bournemouth look absolutely dynamic, and Forest complacent. How you let a guy who got a hattrick shooting from the top of the box waltz through your midfield and shoot unopposed from the top of the box…surely you’ve had a conversation about shutting him down?
Bournemouth are unbeaten in January and December and last game put 4 past a Newcastle side that had been on a streak of 9 wins. Red hot.
Be interesting to see if Forest pick themselves up or if drop down the table a bit. But I think Bournemouth might be considered the best team in the PL currently. Brighton, Fulham, Newcastle and Arsenal makes for a tough February too. No easy games there.
It sucked at the time, but you'd have to agree the Billionaire Greek's decision not to let Wood go to the Olympics was the right one. A rest then a full pre season at Forest.

shows the results if you have a manager who can get the best out of a player, new castle didn;t bother trying, forest has and been rewarded with a river of goals. same with Italiano and Barber

I think Howe at Newcastle was a fan of Wood. He went out & signed him from Burnely after all. Plus he regularly sang his praises even when he wasn't scoring for the Magpies. But from memory Wood got poor service from his team mates there. The likes of Joelinton were pretty selfish.
And then when the Swedish wunderkid Isak was signed, the writing was on the wall for the big Kiwi. The fans at St James Park with all that Saudi cash, expected bigger names on their team sheet than Waikato's finest.
How sweet it must have been for Wood, his brilliant hat trick there last season.

maybe fair enough re the manager, but the club couldn't be bothered whereas Forest are bothering and reaping the reward

I thought Newcastle's signing of Woodsy was just as much about strengthening Newcastle's attack as it was weakening Burnley's attack. Easy to forget they were both fighting relegation at the time!
I think Woodsy has always been underrated because of his stature and his prominent role in Sean Dyche's Burnley, which had a poor reputation for a robust style of football. Always thought he had more in his locker than what he showed in claret and blue. Glad to see he's taking his chance!
Big game for Forest. 3 slack halves of football, albeit the last two against clearly the competition’s form side.
Nuno goes defensive with a back 3 and Danilo is back. Hudson-Odoi is still missing, a worry because last game they really needed his pace and skill to dovetail with Elanga and put the pressure back on Bournemouth. Silva was this time, a poor replacement.
Milenkovic, Aina and Anderson will hope to keep Mitoma and co quiet.

Gibbs-White and Wood combine for Dunk’s first for Forest 1-0 to the Reds. No help to Wood’s personal goals goals yet, and certainly job not done. But that will settle some Forest butterflies.
The ref has also given two early yellow cards, so if the intensity is kept up we might see someone off the park.
GOOAAALLLL! IT'S 3-0 FOREST! They're running away with this one! Elanga races down the right edge of the box and hangs up a lovely ball for Wood. The Kiwi rises and nods superbly down past a scrambling Verbruggen in the bottom-left corner. That's goal number 15 for the big man!
Wood scores, second assist for Elanga, to go with one for Gibbs-White and Forest go 3-0 up and look hungry to fill their boots. Brighton are never out of it, but I hope Forest and Wood might have more here.

Been a good watch so far. All Forest’s attack firing.
I wrote a celebration post too and then they bleeding pulled up the VAR when he looked clearly onside. Cracking distance shot too saved from Woodsy. Caught it so sweetly. Elanga in red hot form. 8 goal contributions in 9 games. MGW with a goal and assist.
Danilo, Aina and Anderson also very good creatively as well as their defensive qualities.
Here’s hoping Woodsy can add more goals in the second half to keep him right in the golden boot race, and in the hunt for my new goal for him: 30 PL goals. Would need a big finish to the season, but while we’re flying, might as well do some acrobatics!
14 more rounds left and he’s on 15 goals. It’d need him to come home with a wet sail and Forest to really punish some teams, but it’s certainly not an impossibility!

30 for the season seems very optimistic (not a kiwi trait!) but as you say not impossible. It's crazy stuff... In his late Burnley and Newcastle days I thought his legs were nearly gone and soon to the championship (or A League even)... Now he looks sharper than ever and I think he will end with over 100 pl goals which is an insane accomplishment (and more than Viduka!).
