Is this the biggest, most important club game of his long career?

Best Club in Europe, top of the prem, top of the champions league, and they can't stop the Woodsman. Gotta love football

So far? Maybe. But I wouldn't bet against there being bigger games before the end of the season.

Unfortunately finishes 1-1.
Woodsman off at 90 mins for Awoniyi.

Forest (2nd) do again go above Arsenal, who host Spurs tomorrow.

Potentially at fault for the marking at the corner?

Looked like it. A bit soft there and shouldn’t have happened

Auckland will rise once more

Yeah to a degree it looked like. Though I think the Forest defender in front of Diogo Jota more at fault. Looked like the Portuguese scorer was more his man.

The angle of the shot was similar to the one he should have buried v Italy in the 2010 WC. If he'd scored then....

Good near 6 min post game chat with CW.
Perter Crouch is a fan.

Time to start giving Wood the respect he deserves.

Greatest New Zealand footballer of all time? I’d say he must almost be, and if he beats viduka’s 92 goals in the premier league, and dare I say reaches 100 goals, there can be no doubt anymore.
Well like Wynton, he may get Champions League/European Cup football next season. That would be awesome.

It's always hard to compare players from different eras, especially given we never had TV coverage of Wynton in his prime in Germany.
I like the Peter Crouch comment about having about 100 goals in the championship as well we tend to forget about all those in what is a top league of its own.

No, but theres no shame being no. 2 behind Rufer.

No, but theres no shame being no. 2 behind Rufer.

Scoring 82 goals (and on track for 90-100+ in his career), in the best league in the world, in an era where the competition is higher than ever (i.e., compare the quality of football in the 70s-80s versus today).

He is definitely the greatest NZ footballer. Just because people don't like his style of play, doesn't take away from his accomplishments.

His record will probably, in all likelihood, never be repeated by a New Zealander.

Man this deserves to be the topic of a club night debate or something.

In many ways Wood is the opposite of Wynton. He keeps everything very simple, which is the absolute triumph of his game. He’s closer to a great goal scorer than a scorer of great goals. He needs fast wingers or brilliant creative players behind him, because he’s rarely far from the box. But that simplicity means he’s clinical AF.

Plus now he’s adding longevity to his claim too. And if he can be a key part of a Forest team which stays top 4…

Until Wood does it in the CL, Rufer is clear.

Maybe next year.

I’m feeling really happy that I had the chance to watch some of this campaign live, and that I watched preseason too.

As you say it may never be repeated in my lifetime.

On the other hand- one Liberato Cacace after only a few games as a forward is on 4 goal contributions…😁

Wynton played for one of the power houses of German football and all time great clubs, Chris doesn't. Playing European football is largely out of his control. Yet, Chris is fighting for the top position in the Premier League and the golden boot. He's also spent a lot more time in top leagues.

Who's the best is a bit of a pointless argument. Woodsy is amazing. Rufer was amazing too.

Yes, Wynton did play for a (then-) good club in Werder - but that wasn't by chance. He played for them, was bought by them, because he was excellent. Remember, this was in a time when foreigners were heavily restricted, and clubs only spunked money on those who were worth it.

Chris Wood, or maybe Ryan Nelsen, can go down as the best All White of all time - given his number of appearances/goals and readiness to play.....both of which tally to be far above Rufer's AW contribution. (Nelsen perhaps for his leadership at the 2010 WC)

But if we look at solely from a "who is the better player" point of view - it's Rufer first, daylight second. Top scorer in the Champions League, winner of a European comp (in which he scored in the Final), major domestic league winner, major domestic cup winner......

Some highlights (a personal favourite is Wynton sitting Donadoni on his arse)

You could also throw Sumner in there.

Yipe goal an assist in a 3-2 win. Forest up 3-0 at 41 mins

Wood off at 83 mins (3-1)

Tougher run ahead. Can Forest stay top 4?
Having met both Chris and Wynton a number of times I do think Chris is more down to earth and will have the longeity to his career at the top that Wynton never had...

but Rufer was the better player, we just never saw him do it as the media at the time only cared about egg ball and his clubs actually stopped him playing for the AWs. I can still remember some class goals for the Kingz and AWs at the very end of his career even though it was clear his legs were gone.

At the end of the day these two are easily out best ever strikers with Sumner our midfield supremo. It's at the back where the competition is: Nelsen, Reid, Herbert

Equals his previous best of 14 goals in an EPL season. Hopefully he finishes with 20 plus this campaign.

Top of the EPL with headed goals (5) this season. And 5th overall all time headed goals (28). Only active player in the top 5, with Giroud (32) next.

There was one he brought down nicely and then another player took off his toes and shot, but straight at the keeper? @detoxin

And he cost his CB a goal by coming back from an off side position at a free kick.

He’s guna need a few braces and a hatty or two to stay in the golden boot race and to threaten 30 PL goals which is my new revised target for him!

If Forest get top 4 after this run in they will absolutely have earned it.

Maybe the one taken of his toes.  He put it over.  Was watching on my phone so didnt see if the other player got a touch

Oh na different one then. Yeh I’m pissed off with our HDMI set up for streaming. It was great all pandemic, and replaced a few of the gadgets, but now is very patchy so end up using my phone a lot. Really annoying especially with Disneyplus for the kids, and doesn’t help that the DVD player is also a bit wonky.

That one he brought down Elanga hit the keeper so must have been a different one.

I did notice he had weak clearing header for their goal, but that was a fairly unlucky deflection!

Lol. Yeh. But also sometimes we have issues with other apps too. I allowed myself the luxury of DAZN for Waine, Old and Libby and then Waine got loaned and Old got injured.

But Yeh we need a new TV probably. There’s 3 connection points with the adapters. Any could be a bit wonky.

In the Japanese winter and at 5am the phone has the advantage of keeping warm and sliding it up to your eyes!

It’s my dad’s anti-burglary protection. In a burglary hotspot, next to a right of way with plenty of trees, he had his old TV from the 90s and didn’t trade up until he moved. Never got broken into once. It wasn’t a deliberate plan, but it worked!
