Hey Everyone.

This is a replacement for the "New Forums" thread, it's a place for you guys to chat with myself & Patrick about tech stuff, let us know if something is broke, and ask for changes/new features.

We're happy with constructive feedback - please offer a useful solution (don't just slag us off, as that's no fun for anyone).

If you'd like to check out what's going on with the tech side of things, I've created a public Trello board which we'll attempt to keep up to date. This will include stuff we're currently working on and stuff we're looking to get to next, so please make sure we're not actively working on it before suggesting :)

Thanks all!

After Friday I am expecting:

1. Natural grass background (not artificial please - it gives me sore legs and AJ13 gets pussy knees)

2. A pony

Thanks

What about a donkey?

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Only thing could add to that is PM and a search function of some form. More nice to have and probably long term, if at all.

A block button, but  one that would allow the blocked person to notify me if I have won an amazing prize.

No. Don't want Pav back.

Nufc_nz making an ass out of himself doesn't count?

Also possibly a 'Like' function or 'Plus 1'

Possibly could also down vote certain comments if they are plain retarded for a sort of self modding? The way Youtube does it

The problem with the "thumbs down" type option is it may discourage fairly newer users from posting again, they make a post people disagree with, get several dislikes, then think "screw this YF mob" and doesn't come back. It already kind of happens, I worry a feature like this would only make it worse.

In the active topics list can you show the sub forum that threads are in, then I can skip the trophy manager threads titled 'NZ National team' etc. Currently the only way to tell is threads started by Tegal.

And only posts with positive votes appear on the main thread, others in a vote for me version of thread :D

Hi Nik,

Fixing the way quoting works would be great. For example, if I just quote you like this it's no problems. But if I wanted to split the quote into parts to give separate replies it will get all fucked up (see next post)

Actually agree with this :(
Hate forums that have a +1, but can't be downvoted, also understand it might discourage posters as well. Ugh.

YOLO!!!

Also, sometimes the EDIT button appears on my posts and sometimes it doesn't. Not sure why.

Edit: See, this post I can edit but the one directly above (which is to illustrate the fucked up quoting) I can't.

Yeah realise that must be annoying, sorry about that. Those thread were made when subforums were split in the active topics page, so never thought about it being confusing at the time (because it wasnt).
Maybe we can get Patrick to put (TM) in front of thread titles in the meantime?

Yep, I've been meaning to do that for a while but never got around to it. It was okay when our Subforum was hidden away at the bottom of the site on Fever v1.0, but now that everything is lumped together it's a bit annoying.

I'm a fan of having only positive votes. Things get negative enough around here without people saying things like "WTF am I being downvoted?", and I think thought-out, coherant replies to posts that one does not agree with should be encouraged, rather than just clicking a downvote button.
At the moment, it's harder to say that you agree with a post than if you disagree, so I think a +1 button would help solve that.

Have updated the Trello with some of the bugs. I've also enabled public voting on there, so if there's something that particularly tickles your fancy (or particularly pisses you off) feel free to chuck some votes onto it.

In terms of the +1 thing: It's a really common suggestion, I'd just prefer that everyone hashed out exactly how we want it to work before we add it.

I can see that point, I wouldn't downvote something because I disagree with it, but would downvote someone whose argument is not well thought out and incoherent, I get what you are saying though..

I think if you have it like YouTube does, but exclude the thumbs down option. It'd maybe encourage some posters who end up getting almost bullied out of a point of view, if they see a few likes above their post. So it may actually help to solve a forum problem, as well as being a nice little feature.

We can always tweak it too, some forums I've used only allow up/down vote if you've reached a certain post threshold... or there's always the possibility of introducing "karma".

Yeah agree, although think if its just a number with a negative or positive symbol next to it then it shouldn't put people off from posting. Sometimes all I want to do is quote someone just to tell them how stupid they are being.
So a positive way to look at it is maybe being able to 'dislike' the post will actually decrease the negativity?

I wouldn't really see it being anymore than a number associated to the post .
Maybe if the post receives a certain number of votes it becomes hidden, with the option for us to view it if we want. Or even more simply an alert is sent to mods to deal with the thread?
Positive posts could be the ones that are highlighted on the home page that appear once in a while for me

Another issue, sometimes when clicking on the 'view # new' link for a thread it takes you to blank page, 1 page further than any content in the thread.

Cool idea. A good compromise would be making newer posters immune to "thumbs down". Then they wouldn't get discouraged (in that way at least). But we can still "like" their posts, to hopefully encourage them to post again, and perhaps to let them know that just because a vocal few disagree with them, its not like everyone is against them - like Patrick (I think?) said, its currently easier to disagree with a post than it is to agree with one. Which leads to a lot of people thinking EVERYONE hates their opinions.

Whenever I click on the "View [x amount] new" button/link to the right of a thread, I never get taken to where I have last seen. Instead, I am taken to a blank page from that thread (actually, it looks like it tries to take me to one page further than the last page of the thread).
