Interesting story about Sky and rugby coverage.

Obviously it is going to change, but surely it's an sign? Some games are "delayed" but not many. Why bother adding them in later?

i got this from sky :

Hello

Thank you for your email.

Due to the very fluid nature of sport, changes can occur for many reasons such as change in start times, durations of live events, cancellations, postponements, technical faults, taped events not arriving on time or faulty when received as well as changes received on a daily basis from either the host broadcaster or supplier of events sent through to us via satellite feed.

Sky will endeavour to schedule LIVE A-League matches where ever possible but please be aware that with the amount of LIVE and Delayed Sport that we receive this makes it very difficult. For updated info and scheduling for events please visit our website www.skytv.co.nz, or check your EPG (electronic programming guide) for any changes.

First game will be between Melbourne and Central Mariners on Friday 7 August Delayed at 11.30am.

Please feel free to contact SKY Television Customer Services on 0800 759 759 for further information, alternatively please respond via return email and we will endeavour to reply within 24 hours.

With kind regards,

Mia

Do Sky not realise that there are viewers whom subscribe to SKY Sports for Live sport that is not Rugby.
I'm curious to know how many Sky Sport subscribers also subscribe to the Rugby Channel?

I mean if Rugby is as big a deal as made out, then surely every Sky Sports subscriber would deem the Rugby channel as an essential purchase?? I hate that stupid rugby prayer commercial!

This subscriber got Sky Sports soley for the football, and of course, The Tour De France.

Sky are obviously quick to forget that its football that got them off the ground over here in the first place all them years ago, and also when they did the big switch over to digital was it any small coincidence that suddenly all football was showed on the new digital sky sports 2 etc..?

Happy they are showing a-league games (seeing they are the types to cut their noses off just to spite their face, ill take what i can get at the mo!), even if it means having to sometimes watch it at sh1te times.

Very disappointed if the Sky guide is correct.  I used to watch all the games, it was great being able to know that there was always going to be A-League on.   And I have to say, watching goalfests in the non-Phoenix games was often a lot more enjoyable than the pull your hair out can't pass a ball Phoenix games.

So, they will endeavour to show live A-League games where possible, except when there is a large amount of other live or delayed sport.  So can someone please tell me why at 10pm next Thursday, when this is on....

Sky Sport 1: Grassroots Rugby, The Crowd Goes Wild
Sky Sport 2: World of Golf, Classic Rugby League matches
Sky Sport 3: Kayaking, Premier League World

....they can't broadcast Melbourne v CCM live or even delayed by an hour or so, and don't get it on until 13 and a half hours later?

I can't understand why they would play the NQF vs Sydney at 7.30 on a Saturday. (Prime Tiem i would have thought, with plenty of NPC) and Yet on a Thursday night, with nothing on they fail to show the opening Match?  Weird.

I think this is a question that should be put to their programming/CEO/PR guy as soon as possible in a non-confrontational manner.  That's absolutely disgraceful, especially when there is a football programme in there that is a repeat!

That's a shocker if that happens. I'd be interested to know the combined viewing figures for that lot. Kayaking? Classic Rugby League FFS??? Surely all the classic pish should just be on the Rugby channel or put on in the middle of the night to fill airtime.

I got this email response from Sky today -

Hello Allan

Thank you for your email.

Initially our contract for the A-League were to show LIVE Phoenix games only, with no rights to show any others. Fortunately we were able to extend our contract terms to include all games though please be aware that not all of these will be LIVE, and because of the late contract change we will play these games where we can. Some we can bring in LIVE others will either be delayed or shown where available.

Please feel free to contact SKY Television Customer Services on 0800 759 759 for further information, alternatively please respond via return email and we will endeavour to reply within 24 hours.

With kind regards,

Mia
I did have a look at the schedule in the Skywatch ( and yes they still call it "soccer" which tells us everything really, eh) and get this.....August 22nd Adelaide Utd V Gold Coast LIVE at 1.30am.
Yes folks, 1 effing 30 A.M.  Are they playing the game in Cairo or somewhere??????  They are treating us with absolutely no respect at all.  I like Hard News' idea of leaving the decoder switched to a channel with A-League football scheduled.  Gonna have to get Mysky afterall.....Sky win I guess (assholes).

My response to Sky reply........

Thanks for your response.  I find this all very bizzare.  The opening game of the season - Melbourne Victory versus Central Coast Mariners is NOT being shown LIVE because you are showing:

Sky Sport 1: Grassroots Rugby, The Crowd Goes Wild
Sky Sport 2: World of Golf, Classic Rugby League matches
Sky Sport 3: Kayaking, Premier League World

None of the above are worthy of overshadowing the A-League opener & even if SS1 was left alone for those Rugby heads who can't afford the Rugby Channel (can't be true Rugby fans  then can they), then what's wrong with SS3 - I ask you, Kayaking?????? and just about all those who would watch Premier League World (Football) are bleating about not being able to watch the A-League.....and rightly so.  Mia, try dropping into yellowfever.co.nz and go the the forum under the thead "Sky Coverage OFFICIAL", you'll then understand how much angst there is towards SKY right now.

Dear Allen, we here at Sky are quite proud of keeping our heads buried in the sand. After all we know every New Zealander would literally kill to get home and watch a game of Rugby from the distant past. We pride ourselves in managing to get repeats of Rugby on as many of our sports channels as we can, not just the 24 hour totally dedicated "Rugby Channel"

Those few soccer poofters that keep making lots of noise and moaning about our coverage or lack of, really need to get out and get a life. Rugby is, was, and always will be, the surpreme sport of this country.

And what is wrong with Kayaking? I'll have you know that there are 100 dedicated fans of this sport in New Zealand. Just how many soccer fans do you really think there are??

If you dont like our programming might I suggest that you watch Freeview or even Saturn!! No cancel Saturn, we supply the sports for them too. Go get a Foxtel dish and invite your measly 200,000 + fans around for a barbi and viewing.

The standard issue automated response. To be honest, i have a gut feeling that any e-mails we football fans in general send to Sky are probably being greeted with the "Delete" button being pushed without being read.
