Agreed. Libby was superb on Saturday. Team seemed to be settling into the way ufuk wants them to play. He was closer to what I remembered of last season.

Do you know these people? They could be females or frustrated housewives or persons of another persuasian annoyed that their other half is at the games and they are watching it on TV.

Actually, all the returning All Whites were very good which is a credit to them, and a credit to the staff for managing them properly. McCowatt showed great vision, Payne was up and down all game, Marinovic was superb and Libby was almost back to his best. Rufer, despite my criticisms, also played better than he has the last couple of games.

Might have to do with him picking up a yellow.

He was poor in Europe, I wonder if Hay told him (Rufer) to improve his game if he wants to wear the fern in March?

Would hope his improvement was more to do with wanting to lift his game for his club rather than something Hay may have said

About his vision, he played two particularly superb, angled, defence splitting passes (I think both to Cacace) - I don't think I've ever seen a Nix player pass along those lines before, not even Singh.

Dont get to carried away sorry that's a claim that just dosnt stack up. While I like Libby some are going way over the top with the praise. Funny actually the opposite of the over the top criticism of Sotirio

There were a couple of times there where Libby, put the hammer down and just breezed past a couple of players. I got quite excited by the fact that he was prepared to take them on in that fashion and how successful it was. I thought "he is turning into one special player".

Fully agree with you,but do think some of the praise is as over the top as some of the criticism is of other players.

My comment was in reply to this comment "I dont think I've ever seen a Nix player pass along those lines before",

I get your point but my comment was referring to McCowatt, not Libby.

He played two inch perfect diagonal passes along the ground, between defenders, from more than 20 yards, into the feet of an attacker running on to the ball. We've had players that will pull off passes like this maybe once or twice in a handful of games, twice in one game I don't think I've seen before. No exaggeration.

Libby is phenomenal. For 19 years of age he plays with maturity beyond his years. His red card v Sydney was shocking but he'll learn so much from it. Doubt you'll see a rash challenge like that again for a while. Hardly puts a foot wrong in defense and is a revelation going forward in attack.

Totally different players and positions, but in terms of consistency, reliability and value, I reckon Libby is worth more than Singh. The rate hes going Bayern et al will be knocking on Phoenix HQ's door in January.

Libby has a great engine and can get up and down the flank the entire game, is naturally left-footed with good delivery, and has great willingness to go forward and win 1-on-1 match ups. That skillset is very sought after in Europe, because it's hard to find left-footed players who bring all the rest of it along too. Libby still has some way to go on the defensive side of things, especially as a full-back and at higher levels of the game, but at his age, that's not going to stop people from wanting to bring him in.

Think that there is a decent chance that he leaves in January, and I'd say it's almost certain that this will be his last season at the club.

Agreed. Although I do hope he leaves next winter rather than Jan. Its good that the club have protected themselves again by having an additional year on the deal.

Yep, went under the radar but that was sneakily the best bit of business we did.

His defensive work against Roar was one of those areas where I got that kind of low-key enjoyment you get from watching a developing young Kiwi player in action.

He may have things to work on in defence but I've noticed that for his age he is remarkably composed on the ball in tight areas. He has a good ability to fend off attackers with solid body position and either lay off a pass or wriggle out of trouble to turn and face forward. Also, it's unusual to see him resort to wellying the ball up the touchline which is such a common sight in the A League. He will always look for an outlet and is often surprisingly effective at finding a Nix shirt. In short, he has an excellent football brain and continues to improve in every area.

I’ll put this here if only for the very tenuous link that game also had a 2-1 scoreline.

Currently in Lima, Peru which on weekend hosted the Copa Libertadores Final.

Flamengo with a dramatic late 2-1 win over River Plate.

The Argentinians were up 1-0 and looked in control until 85th min, when the Brazilians equalised.

A few minutes later (90th min??) Flamengo pounced for the winner.

Shades of Man U verus Bayern in UCL final 20 years ago.

Final was supposed to be in Santiago, but with all the unrest in Chile at the last minute was moved to Lima. Caused big problems for fans of both teams getting last minute flights etc. Spoke to a happy but tired Flamengo fan who had to wait around in Lima (Miraflores), 5 days after the game hoping to get a flight out. Even then he had to fly up to Panama first, before getting back to Rio. Apparently for them qualifying for the CWC is a big deal, and they love the idea of knocking over Liverpool or whoever.

Anyway thought maybe of some interest, esp to those AWs fans that were in Lima 2 years ago.

I agree with every single word here Boxy - my question though is, does he have another year on his contract as it's recently been alleged?Cause that would make a huge difference in terms of what sort of fee we could attract.

I for one hope he goes to Italy so I can keep track of him well..

It was breaking news on the Phoenix City podcast when Gilly confirmed he had another year (Gilly's Island eps) then followed up and confirmed by Rollo that he had a 2 + 1 deal that was activated.

Well 6 months or 1.5 years left on his contract makes a huge difference to us.
We're not in a position to haggle too much, but the fact that we wouldn't lose Libby as a free agent at the end of the season certainly puts us in a stronger position to negotiate a decent signing fee.

Hes a fantastic young player - and without getting too over the top is possible in the top three players of who we've developed along with Marco and Sarpreet. Tough on Tyler Boyd

Bloody hell bit rough not as if he showed the best attitude at the end of his time here. May  not of had much to do with his development but a stretch to say he was stifled here.
