One thing i think the Phoenix could do, is market more toward Students, mainly University students. They need to stress the fact that because you are a student you get much discounted Tickets.

Many times i have talked to people only to have them say they can't afford it, but when i tell them it is only $20, they at least consider it. Because the posters don;t have prices on them, many think they will have to pay adult fare.

Aslo would be great to see the Nix come in for an hour or so in the Quad on campus, a coupke thousnad people at least would see them, and at Massey  around Lunch time one day. (They were more than happy to visit my school last year). Having a free BBQ, doing some ball tricks, and giving out 2 4 1s, or just stressing that you get cheap ticktes.

Just an idea, but definiatly think it would make an effect.

I saw a page in the Hutt News asking for Juniors teams (under 11s) in the Hutt Valley to apply to get in and walk the players onto the field, and watch the game hosted by the Phoenix.

So if anyone has or knows kids in a junior team in the Hutt Valley, best get a copy of the Hutt News :)

Can't say I'm a fan of this 'The Return of Shane Smeltz'?? Fair enough if he had signed to come back to Phoenix but don't know about promoting the opposition in such a way?

At least put a Phoenix player on the other side like was done with Fowler.

Seeing the posters around town today and I'm also of that mind. At least with the Fury game they had both sides.

I appreciate that Shane's family is over on the Gold Coast and that he has given the Nix two good seasons. But we don't need to be promoting Smeltz in those colours (maybe if he was in white).

Two points
1.
Resurrected this thread to remind our top man Nathan (and whoever the Seven provide him with to help Market the Nix)  that many willing hands will make the job a little lighter!!

There's been plenty of willing hands on this forum to download, print and put up the posters..
and after listening to the latest Poddie from Piney etc I think they're right.
We need a very big showing at home Sunday 16th WP v Jets,  and even bigger,Sunday 30th, WP v M. Victory (Kewell, plus Rojas returns!, ..with K Muscat on sidelines!!) to show our new owners some support, and hopefully encourage them to invest where its needed in the Nix.

2.
Question:how could we as WP fans work with WP to develop, leverage and/or extend this "fans print+ post" marketing concept more fully, make it more effective ??
Off the top of my head, ambition for this would be to

a) encourage more people to purchase memberships and/or attend WP games and events.
b) promote sales of WP merchandise.
c) create more awareness and raise profile of WP generally.
there are probably other important aims others can identify.

There's new ownership in place now with an eye or two toward the Nix's future development, there's plenty of intelligent, creative Nix fans with good ideas. All contributions welcome!

As always we at the B.B. will put up posters as soon as they are available.
No more thugby in Wellington after this weekend and I for one am looking forward to having proper football fans back in the pub to banter with.

Just thinking about the marketing slogans for the team each season.

2009/10: Stand Up For The Phoenix
2010/11: Power, Pride, Paston
2011/12: One Dream, One Team

Can't remember the earlier slogans.

The 2011/12 slogan doesn't do much for me, would prefer something like "We're not Auckland anymore" or "Where were you when we were not very good?"

Maybe for next season?

I just want to say a huge thank you to David Dome, Head of Marketing at the Phoenix.

For the last six months I have been a Football Development Officer for Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and have just finished rolling out a grassroots coaching programme, called Just Play, at 27 secondary schools including 10 in Wgtn.

I asked Domey for a few complementary tickets to thank the teachers. To his credit, he gave us an entire corporate box for the game against Perth. Hopefully now the teachers will now go back to their schools and tell their students that their homework is to get along to the footy!

If we are serious about averaging 10k at the ring of fire, I feel that engaging more with local schools should become a top priority.

So more Scottish football coming through the system then.  How are we ever going to improve as a nation?

Of course I use similar techniques with Jnr Jnr's team (they lost most of their games last season).

Would be good to see the Nix do more community engagement like they did a few seasons ago.

Well in regard to reaching out to schools, kids and their parents, The Nix could surely organize a kind of fundraising program where by providing schools with access to discount tickets and allowing them to sell tickets at a set profit
Surely wouldn't cost a great deal more than kids go free promotions and would probably get a lot of first timers going in family groups, kids going with their friends as well as their parents. A fun afternoon at the footy for all hopefully and they return for full price admission.
Either that or perhaps same thing for school grade football clubs, raising money for grass roots football while getting more in gates. Win win?

Couldn't find the thread about the NIx social networking so i thought i'd comment in here.

A fan of Wellington Phoenix FC on Facebook, and during the game they had heaps of updates which is great.
But they seem to go quiet not around game day.

Also a fan of the Warriors on Facebook. And even though its the off season, there is some sort of giveaway, or photo, or update most days.

Just thought this would be an inexpensive way of advertising and keeping the NIx at the fore front of peoples mind.

Also what a win!

I think that is an extention of the staff shortages.  If you had a media man instead of the kitman writing releases you'd have more content...

Two important observations above..hope the Nix Nine take note for the next board meeting..

Effectively marketing the Nix needs to include social media expertise, engaging with the fanbase much more regularly.
the Nix also need more community engagement with the wider Wellington Community, especially Schools. Used to be pretty good in the past..What's happening these days?

I think the marketing needs to start now for the Jests game. In music, we talk about needing 3 weeks of marketing to be effective. And I don't believe just putting up posters is enough. How many of you actually buy a ticket to a game because of a poster. I think encouraging groups is vital. How about a buy 2 get one free offer? Or a large group discount? Plus get us involved with pushing people to go to games. Something like the morphs getting out and about but with no morph suits!

They said that it's not just about getting the numbers through, it's about making revenue.

If we do 2 for 1 or similar then a 10k crowd is still the same amount of revenue as a 5k crowd.

Need to be smarter without actually losing $$ in the process.

They need to do some sort of market research, find out what the benchwarmers and fence sitters see a problem for not being a regular.
