Generally agree with that, although I’d probably increase Fenton to two ticks , and you’ve left us potentially without a keeper. I’d prioritise one of them.

Probably should justify some of my selections
DeVere - whilst he came in and did well for us last season in partnership with Taylor, generally think he'd been pretty ponderous this season. Also a guy that's been pretty injury prone over the past few seasons. Massive respect him as a senior, experienced player but I feel Payne and McGing have done well since they came in and I think they've pushed their claims for more squad involvement, over and above what would be warranted for DeVere.

Laws - hasn't really impressed me at all. Could be a squad option, but don't think he's up to it just yet. He's still young too, but honestly I wouldn't be in for him for an extension.

Hemed - For a visa spot has underwhelmed. Injuries aside, I think we could do better. The one thing I would say though is that his inury has allowed more game time for Waine, so I'm appreciative of that. Of course if he starts to bang them in I would reconsider.

Ridenton - Could be re-signed on the cheap as a squad player. Don't think he's up to it however, think we could aim higher.

I did think Fenton was worth two ✅✅ but forgot to add that in.

Also was unsure on the keeper situation - think if Sail keeps up his form he'll be our #1 going forward. He'd be considerably cheaper than Marinovic, and we could use the money saved if we let him go elsewhere and invest it in other areas of the squad. Plus, we could potentially elevate Paulsen from the Weenix squad to a first team contract.

I don't know why people are picking on Hemed. If you converted his caught off sides to goals, he'd be claiming the golden boot by now. He must be leading the League in caught offside.

Just about every Brit who has played pro at the Kingz, Knights and Nix who has retired here has gone into coaching:  Divine, Ifill, Emblin, Bazeley etc
scribbler
Is he the kind of player who could move into coaching? Not all ex-players can do it, but if he really loves NZ he might be a useful addition to the Nix coaching staff when he hangs up his boots.

Taylor already eager to stay beyond this season. Just hope all goes well and he signs that contract extension!

We always lose players to bigger and better clubs so no big deal there, I'm all for Sail leaving as this will develop his game and he can move on to better things. We have a academy and it has produces some nice players lets just see if it can produce a goal keeper worthy of a A-League start.

Oli Sail is 25, so its time for him to find a starting spot. We got Paulsen in the WeeNix as a replacement on the bench. Up to Nix to decide which Keeper they wanna keep now.

Watch Paulsen's highlights from this years NZFC. He has made some saves which I can't fathom to be honest!

Great reflexes and seems to always be in the right spot.

Still makes errors that said, but he is young.

He is very highly rated, 18 years old Kiwi/South African. Made some fantastic saves in WeeNix games watched this season, Piney had him on his team of the season.

It's a small sample, but some of that playing out from the back would give me a hernia! That said, still highly rated. Elevate him to the first team and have him serve his apprenticeship like Sail has done.

I'd like to think this is what will happen, but I guess we'll see how contract extension talks pan out.

From what I’ve seen of Paulsen he’s a decent prospect but he certainly would not be ready for A League, and has issues occasionally when distributing both short and long. For example his short range distribution cost him a goal against Brazil at the U17s, and also more recently against Hawkes Bay where played straight to Akers who then subsequently scored into the open goal. He does position himself well and make solid saves, but has also been guilty of conceding softly on occasion too.

I think staying in the reserves would be best where the mistakes like that can be ironed out, and if worst case scenario happens (both Sail and Marinovic don’t renew I’d like the Phoenix to take a good look at Cam Brown, I reckon he’s the best keeper in the country atm, positions himself well and a decent distributor for his level, is athletic in the same way Marinovic is, albeit less imposing, but I still reckon he’s a very solid keeper.

Would like to hear some resigning news as half our team are now open to talk to other clubs.

Need to lock in Devlin for example sooner rather than later.

EXPIRES END OF 2020/21:

Ulises DÁVILA [V] ✅✅
Luke DEVERE
Cameron DEVLIN [u23] ✅✅
Louis FENTON ✅
Tomer HEMED [V]
Joshua LAWS [u23]
Clayton LEWIS [u23] ✅
Stefan MARINOVIC ✅
James MCGARRY [u23] ✅✅
Liam MCGING [u23] ✅
Mirza MURATOVIC [u23] ✅
Matthew RIDENTON
Oliver SAIL ✅
Ben WAINE [u23] ✅✅

Those are the ones heading into the backend of their contracts.

Have gone with the ✅ system to show who I would be sitting down and at talking to. Two ✅✅ for the ones who should be at the front of the queue in terms of negotiations.

Undoubtedly a harsh system. Let's drum up some debate. I'd like to think I'm not too far off what most people would go for.

Would not be looking to re-sign Muratovic.

I dunno, I dont think he has really had an opportunity to sho his skills, as an U23 player he wont be costing much so no harm in keeping him around as a squad player.

Baring any major injuries and/or suspensions, hopefully we won't be getting more opportunities for him to show his 'skills'. Happy for this to be thrown in my face if for some reason, a wish upon a falling star, he turns out decent.

You would think that Uffie would have wanted more from him. However next season we may have the wee Nix back and that is a better prospect for developing players. What's happened to Sutton? Anyone else a possible graduate from the academy?

yep. Ben Old certainly the first cab off the rank (along with Alex Paulsen if one of Marinovic/Sail leave). van Hattum has a lot of unfulfilled promise so far following his broken foot

Devlin i'm predicting will sign with an Aus team, especially if he continues to come off the bench

Because Rufer has a get out of Jail Free Card that keeps on seeing him picked ahead of Devlin. Hopefully last nights game will prove for once and for all that Devlin is the better player. Busier, quicker and scored an awesome goal the other week.

Devlin's made as many bad passes as Rufer last few games, and Rufer is always capable of that defence splitting pass to setup a goal.

Pity he looked pretty average that game he had as a makeshift RB. At the moment of the 3, Fenton is the one I'd rather have on the pine. He was pretty poor last night

Rufer can make killer passes, we just only ever see them once every three games, the other two games he sticks with passing back to his CB, the opposition of noone at all. He is slow, labourious and poor in the air = a liability. I'd rather have Devlin's energy in the mix (at least he can tackle). If we get rid of Fenton then we are looking for a new RB, Payne needs to be kept at CB with Taylor.

I don't think Payne was better than Fenton at RB this season. In fact, he was quite awful and had been since golf cart gate.

I think part of think problem was team balance. Ball and Davila can't play without any pace to work with and Lewis and Payne out wide were slowing us down. Payne was great for slinging crosses to Hooper, but wasn't able to get the same dynamic going with Hemed.
It's an interesting choice. Maybe if Reno's back on the left wing we can have Payne at RB?
