I'd especially like to see this extended into NTC selections. Given the 3 Age groups of FTC  I can think of all have no Parent coaching any player.

IMO a far more common occurrence is  selection issues with Rep coaches with a club team in the same grade.

As you said before, you as a Rep coach put names foward for FTC and apparently NTC. Now Rep coaches usually (9 out of 10 times) have their kids playing in their team and what parent wouldn't want their kids to excell even if it's not deserved. Thats nepotism.

Well of target. Correct explanation of nepotism, but not even near on trial process. Rep coaches complete a talent ID - That's as far as it goes. The top 4 or so get invited to trial for FTC. Those that make it into FTC then have to trial again for NTC.

The 2 players I put forward from Reps to FTC (who I both considered to of NTC level) where neither my own or from my club. So if you are using me as an example of nepotism then you are wildly off the mark.

There will come a day where Mainland have enough coaches so there is no Parent at corresponding rep age grade. The sooner the better.

As far as this year is concerned I think 5 of 19 have Parent/Child ties. This is a considerable improvement on previous years. I'm not sure if you meant 9 of every 10 coaches at Rep level is there to forward their kid(s).

Unsubstantiated rumour (heard from 2 different sources in the last week): some sort of new private academy is brewing, to be located in Yarldhurst (?). Seems a certain Eastern European coach and his millionaire backer have seen APFA's imminent departure as an opportunity. Anyone able to add, or subtract, anything to this?

Yaldhurst, the beating heart of world football. Tsetso's track record over the past few years will be the biggest barrier to signing anyone of quality. Only threat would be to FC20 and parents wallets.

Someone else on this Forum mentioned recently questionmarks over Tetso's role at FC2011. He was stood down from coaching their MPL team mid season, and haven't heard of re-appointment as assistant Canty Dragons coach - maybe smart move for him to look at other options. Not sure how may coaches in Canterbury actually have a UEFA A licence, which apparently he has? Wonder why APFA never took him on.

neither 12 Girls made top 4

all 3 12 Boys into top 8.

Tetso did some good things at FC2011. Not sure why he's getting a bum rap. One pundit on here said their junior roll had dropped significantly.

12 girls - really poor from Canterbury not to make semis (coaches were Paul Morrow, Cashmere and Steve Ager, Coastal)

14 girls semis:
Canterbury Red (Gary Ward, Cashmere) v Canterbury Black (Alanah Gunn, Coastal)
Otago v North Canterbury

15 boys semis:
Canterbury Red (Henry Quainoo, Coastal) v Otago
Canterbury Black (Colin Thoms, Cashmere) v Nelson

16 boys - sitting ok, but todays results not posted at 6:30pm
Canterbury Red (Steve Gordon, Coastal)
Canterbury Black (James Hall, Universities)

17 girls - looks like this is a weak age group for us too
Canterbury Black - finished 5th (Heather Hepburn, Coastal I think?)
Canterbury Red - finished 6th (Shane Dyer, Parklands)

"Us" being ChCh teams? Note Selwyn's very credible 3rd place doesn't get a mention - No age dispensations, just the core of last year's 14th grade SIT winning team along with 3 Mid Canty girls that were given district dispensation with them not having a team. Note most of these girls in Burnley program at Selwyn. So is this "us" a weak age group, or are others getting better and better?

That said, tournaments final standings only paint a very blinkered picture of the coaching that is happening around town. Several districts absolutely outplayed teams that ended up much higher on the table. Hard to convince some parents of this, but those coaches that are worth their salt know that ultimately their work will come to fruition when the more physical players will give up the game when they get outsmarted by those that can actually play.

both Selwyn and Waimak have had very good 12's and 14's club sides

nice to see the winning club Selwyn team from a couple of seasons back move through into 14's Reps and now 17's. Good job.

It also ties in with what you said about coaching long term as opposed to must win now mentality. Nice one 10cc.

12 Girls did get 1st and 3rd/4th  last season

it's tougher to measure results in a 2 year age band. IIRC both Waimak and Otago were always going to field far stronger teams this year due to the 2 year rule.

14 girls final is Canterbury black v Otago.

15 boys final Canterbury red v Nelson

16 boys. Red team looking good to win it (round robin, no final), lots of rumblings about tactics of coach of canterbury black; 3 at the back, must be ricki herbert fan.

Hmmm let me guess the rumblings from parents perhaps? Just the normal when your dealing with age group rep teams I guess. Personally dont see the problem at all in playing 3 at the back whether its senior footballers or 15 year old kids.. Better to be brave and expand their skillset and tactical understanding than go with the normal boring 4-4-2..

Gavin Roberts 12th tournament was won by Canterbury Red 3-1 over Nelson. Cant Red were undefeated, with something like 30 goals for, 3 against. Well done Harry McCosh and the boys. 5 Coastal lads, 3 from FC 2011 with one each from Nomads, CashTech, Ferrymead and Parklands. Good mix, great team.

I see north canty 11 girls made final of 12 girls sit. Some strength in girls out there I'd say! 12 girls 4th too.

Fair enough timtam; I agree in principle. Not many rep coaches are playing 442 these days.

Good idea to have senior coach looking at youngsters. JB looking at the players Danny left behind; prob already seen most of Danny's Napier team (except for guest players, one of which at least is from another Chch club).

I believe he was correcting the error you made in calling it the Coastal tournament. It was the Tsunami, but is now the Lotto (it was a surprise to me too btw...). AFAIK it has never been called the coastal tournament, but I could well be wrong. If a random punter looked it up they might not have found any info on it.

I get that, and in this case it's not a biggie at all. But misquoting others and posting it as their quote is a no no. The basic principles around copyright etc. no one likes being misquoted.
