Currently avoiding what I'm supposed to be doing so here is a Chatham Cup preview for the Capital Region

Kapiti Coast United (Cap Prem) v Martinborough (Rapa Div 2), Weka Park, Raumati, KO 1pm

Martinborough have a senior team???? I never knew that until this draw came out, I'm just gutted they didn't get a home draw as it would have been a good trip. Would hope they get through to the next round and get a home game, but given that they are 2nd in Wairarapa Division 2 and up against Cap Prem side KCU I can't see it happening

PICK : KCU win

Wellington Olympic (CL) v Petone (CP), Wakefield, KO 1:30pm

This will be the 13th time these clubs have met in the Chatham Cup and Petone have won a grand total of 0! Yes that's right none at all, they managed a 4-4 draw once (in 1984) but lost 5-4 on pens. And this record isn't one of those not played since the 70s, 7 of the meetings have been in the last 10 years.

PICK : Olympic to make it 13 in a row

Marist (Cap2) v Wainuiomata (Cap1), Miramar Park, KO 2pm

Three meetings in the Chatham Cup between these clubs, and these ones do go back a bit, the most recent was in 2000 when Marist won 2-1, the two before that were in 1963 (Marist 6-1) & 1966 (Wainuiomata (2-0)

PICK : Wainui

Tawa (CP) v Wests (CL), Redwood Park, KO 2pm

The derby, you'd expect an easy win for the kids of Wests against their near neighbours who are in the division below, but if you look at the cup history 6 meetings have produced 2 wins each and 2 draws, in which both sides have won a penalty shoot out, most of these happened in the 90s, but Tawa love the cup and enjoy being the underdog, still I think Wests will be too good for them

PICK : Western Suburbs

North Wellington (CP) v BNU (Cap 1), Alex Moore, KO 2:30pm

The proposed community sports hub for Alex Moore Park was dealt a blow last week when it was discovered that the ground on Alex Moore had been used as a dump by American soldiers during the war (they did build the North Wellington club rooms so suppose it's ok) and it's not safe to build on there. Maybe that's where North Wellington were keeping their money, because all of a sudden they seem to have plenty of it with a team including an English import who was playing Conference South, a National league player from Tasman United, several regular central league starters from the likes of Olympic, Stop Out & Wests oh and Ben Sigmund when he's not injured. This will be the 4th time these clubs have met and is a replay of the same fixture last season, North Wellington won 4-1 then and I think the score will be at least that this time

PICK : North Wellington

Upper Hutt City (CP) v Seatoun (Cap 2), Maidstone Park, KO 3pm

Two time cup winners, Seatoun are unbeaten this season so far and could cause the upset of the round against a Upper Hutt team that hasn't really fired yet this season until last weekend. Not a lot of history between the clubs in the cup 2 games, 1993 (Seatoun 2-1) & 2005 (Upper Hutt 2-0)

PICK : Seatoun

Victoria University (Cap1) v Naenae (Cap1), Boyd Wilson Turf, KO 5:15pm

One of only two same division clashes, Vic Uni are top of the table 6 points ahead of 6th place Naenae. Three previous Chatham Cup meetings all won by Naenae (1975 3-0, 86 3-2, 89 1-0), too long ago and too few to mean anything can't see Naenae overcoming Vic Uni at home

PICK Uni

Lower Hutt City (CL) v Miramar Rangers (CL), Fraser Park, KO 5:30pm

The other same division clash and probably hardest game to pick, 7th meeting of these clubs in the cup and Lower Hutt only won once and that was way back in 1976, this will be the third meeting in 6 years. Going to be an interesting game, Miramar currently have a weakened team thanks to 7 players currently tied up with Team Wellington and the Oceania Champions League, but this will also be their only real chance for any silverware this season. Lower Hutt have a game against Wellington United on Wednesday, which might not help, but these are young guys so shouldn't be too much of a problem

PICK : Lower Hutt on Pens

The interesting looking ties for upsets look to be North Shore Utd vs Bohemian Celtic (like an old North Shore Utd/Mt Wellington clash); Papamoa vs Bay Olympic; Birkenhead Utd vs Waiheke Utd but the best one in my mind is Greenhithe vs Hibiscus Coast. Two neighbouring suburbs with Greenhithe being the underdogs.

Plenty of mouth watering match ups for Round 2 of the mighty Chatham Cup!!

I would say the pick of the Central/Capital round would have to be Wellington united V Wairarapa.

Although Ill be staying local and making my way over the hill to watch Stop out take on Wainui. These two clubs have past history, with some really close and physical games won by both whilst in premier division a few years ago. Stop Out should pull through with a result but shouldn't take Wainui lightly, especially at Richard prouse with plenty of home support.

East Coast Bays FC to Hibiscus Coast FC = 20 kms

Albany Utd to  Hibiscus Coast FC = 24.9 kms

Forest Hill/Milford FC to  Hibiscus Coast FC = 29 kms

Greenhithe to  Hibiscus Coast FC = 30.5 kms

I stand corrected. (used to admit that something you have said or done was wrong. I stand corrected - the date of foundation was 1411, and not 1412 as I had written. Martinborough Football Club’s first foray into Chatham Cup football was not a success on the field, but off the pitch it was a different story.

Last weekend’s 15-0 loss to Kapiti Coast United was a steep learning curve for Martinborough, but Paul Brandon said they knew what they were in for.

“It’s top quality opposition – we probably couldn’t have asked for anybody harder.

Round 2 of the Chatham Cup is on Monday 2nd June

with something different, which seemed like a good idea when I started but was harder than I thought!

Wainuiomata (Cap 1) v Stop Out (CL), Richard Prouse, KO 1pm

Winners in 1956, Stop Out, travel over the hill to face Wainuiomata, whose best performance was quarter finalists in 1990, for the 4th meeting of the clubs in the cup. Previous meetings have been Stop Out 2-1 (1968), 5-3 (2009) & Wainuiomata 3-1 (1990)

Stop Out currently 2nd in the central league, Wainuiomata 5th in Cap 1, two divisions below. Last season Stop Out Vic uni who are in the same div as Wainui and put out effectively a reserve team, they nearly paid for it getting a last minute winner. They may do the same this year or they may have learnt. Stop Out are the closest club to Wainui so a little bit of local derby about this game.

PICK : Stop Out

Something different: 1956 cup winner, Jim Blair, who can be seen at the Stop Out clubrooms most Saturdays, won 3 gold, 2 silver & 2 bronze at the World Masters indoor athletic championships in South Korea last year

North Wellington (Cap Prem) v Vic Uni (Cap 1), Alex Moore, KO 1:30pm

New money World North Wellington get Cap 1 oppo again, they beat BNU 4-2 in the last round. Vic Uni beat fellow Cap 1 team Naenae 3-2

Both teams top of their respective divisions, North Wellington unbeaten, Vic Uni with just 1 loss

3rd meeting in the cup, Vic Uni have won both previous encounters, 4-3 (1979) &  1-0 (2008)

Pick North Wellington

Something different : Victoria University are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year

Island Bay United (CP) v Wellington Olympic (CL), Wakefield, KO 2pm

2009 cup winners, Olympic make the long journey across one pitch on Wakefield Park to play Island Bay

Island Bay beat Stokes Valley 5-1 in the last round.

two previous meetings in the cup Olympic won 1-0 in 2006, in 2013 it was Olympic on pens after a 2-2 draw

Olympic got a new coach last week and also announced Martin Garcia as their reserve team coach, Island Bay then released a statement saying their junior development officer, Martin Garcia, was going nowhere - maybe the winner will get to keep him (OK I pinched that from Hard news)

Island Bay have made a habit of claiming big scalps in the cup in the last 3 years with wins against Wellington United, Wairarapa United and Miramar

Pick Island Bay after extra time

Something different : Aa well as being probably the closest local derby in NZ, there is the south european derby as well, with Olympic being a Greek club and Island Bay Italian

Upper Hutt City (Cap Prem) v Napier City Rovers (CL), Maidstone Park, KO 2pm

Upper Hutt almost lost to Cap 2 Seatoun in the last round, a last minute goal forcing extra time and then they ran riot winning 7-3

They come up against 4 time winners and current Central League leaders, Napier City Rovers

Never met in the cup before

PICK : Napier City Rovers

Something different : With the women's team playing in the Kate Sheppard Cup (KO 11:30) and then this game, the club is having an Orange day to celebrate, so get on some orange and get down to Maidstone park

Wellington United (CL) v Wairarapa United (CL), Newtown Park, KO 2pm

Along with Island Bay v Olympic this is probably the match of the round

The Chatham Cup not a competition Wellington United do well in, lost the final in 1991, also lost in 1974 (when they were WDU), even the clubs that merged into United have never done great, Wellington City lost 3-2 to Western Suburbs in the famous windy game in 1972 (wind was so strong that City keeper Jacky Nathu was having to save his own teams goal kicks!). Wairarapa won the cup in 2011

met twice in the cup before Rapa winning both 1-0 in 2011 & 2-1 in 2013

5 points separate them in the league Wellington United in 4th, rapa 7th. Both teams can score goals (rapa lost 7-5 last week and United won 1st game of season 6-1), would expect a few and its a hard one to call.

PICK Wellington United

Something different : Wellington United's original club Diamond, were actually formed as the Star rugby club in 1886, they changed their name to Diamond in 1888 and changed to playing proper football in 1893

Lower Hutt City (CL) v Palmerston North Marist (Central Federation Premier), Fraser Park, KO 2pm

Both clubs have reached the final of the competition and both lost (LHC 6-1 to Central in 2012, PN Marist also to Central, 1-0 in 2005)

They have met once, in 2005 when Palmy Marist won 1-0

Lower Hutt beat Miramar 4-2 and Marist beat Wanganui Athletic 6-3 in the last round

Palmy Marist , relegated from Central League last season, are currently top of the Central Fed league, While Lower Hutt are  in 6th place

IF Lower Hutt's young kids can keep a lead (they were 3-0 up after 25 minutes against Olympic last weekend and lost 6-3!) they should win

PICK Lower Hutt City

Something different : Lower Hutt were formed in 1968 by a merger of Lower Hutt FC (1920) and Railways (1942).

Havelock North Wanderers (CL) v Western Suburbs (CL)

3 time winners, who beat local rivals Tawa 4-0 in the last round, met Havelock North Wanderers, whose best performance in the cup is round 5 a couple of times. They'd probably not face Western Suburbs so soon after last weeks game where they went down 9-0

PICK Western Suburbs

Something different : Western Suburbs were formed in 1908 as Mental Hospital FC.

Kapiti Coast United (CP) v Waterside Karori (CL)

KCU set a club record score in the last round hammering Martinborough 15-0, While 4 time winners Waterside Karori had a bye

Been a few games between the clubs, or their predecessors, usually won by Wharfies

2004  Waterside Karori 2 KCU 0

2003 Waterside Karori 5 KCU 0

1997 Waterside Karori 5 Raumati Hearts 0

1996 Waterside Karori 1 Raumati Hearts 1 (WK 5-4 on pens)

1994 Waterside Karori 0 Raumati Hearts 4

1985 Waterside 4 Raumati Hearts 0

1983 Waterside 3 Raumati Hearts 2

1979 Karori Swifts 2 Raumati Hearts 0

1968 Waterside 4 Raumati Hearts 0

1966 Karori 4 Raumati Hearts 2

1965 Karori 1 Raumati Hearts 2

Pick Waterside Karori

Something different : KCU founding club, Raumati Hearts were formed by a Scotsman who supported Heart of Midlothian

No, that (a) doesn't look anything like Weka Park, which doesn't have a grandstand, and (b) you can see an Auckland train in the background. It's probably somewhere in South Auckland, although not any ground I've ever played on (maybe actually a rugby ground? Papakura?)

However, if memory serves, RHFC did play in maroon and gold (same colours as nearby Kapiti College).

Reason I asked was in a shot in the video there's a sign on the grandstand saying "Raumati Hearts".

Is this advert filmed at Raumati Hearts? Their name is on the grandstand...

http://www.campaignbrief.com/nz/2017/04/lotto-nzs-...

I saw something about this recently, it's definitely not Weka Park, I think Doloras could be right that its in Auskland somewhere, but it is Raumati Hearts strip, I think the guy who was head of the advertising agency that made the ad came from Raumati and had played for them as a junior (and possibly a senior). Raumati Hearts played in the Maroon of Heart of Midlothian

Wainui vs Stop Out was a great game to watch today and what a cracking atmosphere over in the valley!!

Having conceded 2 goals in the 10th and 15th minute, one a goal keeper fumble and the other a nicely taken free kick.Wainui battled like warriors and fought right to the end.

Wainui won a penalty on the 70th, which was converted after the first attempt was ruled out. The striker putting it down the middle both times to beat Mc Peake in goal.

Game ended 2-1 to Stop Out.

Papamoa beat Bay Olympic 1 - 0 today. Bay Olympic played some classy football and wasted a couple of good chances. The home team took their chance on the break in the second half. Cole Peverley did some great defensive work for Paps as the game wore on.
