that's 1% of the population.

There is also a petition for John Key to be removed from power which has 33,000 signed up. Doesn't really mean anything.

This is what I come back to.

It would appear from what I read, this thing is massive via social media platforms. The 2014 election should show us that social media skews things depending on your point of view.

Is there support for it? Yes there is. At the moment, its representative so no one is ever going to know the true support of the design unless it is included in the choices. That point right there, the 'we'll never know how popular it would have been' is the only thing going for Red Peak as it is not included. I actually now want it to be included as an option so it gets shot down and ends the stupidity of it.

I'm fairly sure that if Red Peak had have been included in the final four, there still would have been another design that a bandwagon full of people would have protested was so much better than the four offered.

Having said that, I genuinely do like it more than the present four options.

Stuff is such a reputable source. Do you seriously look at any poll of that nature and think it has any connection with reality?

So much this. There was no option for laser kiwi, which obviously would have smashed all the others if it was there

At the end of the day, it is up to us to actually get off our arses and show up and vote. No more of this 48% turnout crap. We need 100% of eligible voters to actually show up and make a choice. Whilst not a Labour fan, their leader got it right tonight when he suggested there should have been a question in the first referendum "Do you want a flag change? Yes or No". If "No" won it, then there would be no need for a second one and I am quite happy if that had been the first referendum on it's own.

I don't believe that it the right way of going about it to be honest because the question following is 'so what are we changing to?' People will never vote for change if they do not know what they are changing to because people fear the unknown and resist change.

If I put you on the end of a plank, blind fold you and ask you to jump not knowing if you are going to jump into shark infested waters or a pit full of money, I bet you dollars to doughnuts, you'll stay on the plank. It's the risk and reward process and the majority would not take the risk.

I don't agree with the execution of this change process because it is sloppy but I do think that the order is correct. Had I not seen the blue/black Lockwood fern flag, I would vote for the status quo but I believe that's better design. I suspect if every single person had an option to change to their own preferred choice of new flag, whether it be Red Peak, laser Kiwi or fried eggs on toast, the current one would be gone and that's because they know what they are changing too.

The amount of people (current 50k?) that say "Well if I can't have Red Peak, I'll take the status quo" supports my theory because people know their alternative to vote for when asking if they want a change.

That's fair but I like Little's suggestion where you have your 4 or 5 options and have to vote for your preferred one, and a second question asking if you actually want to change to it or stick with the current flag.

That way you can picture the alternatives and the publics opinion on whether it should be changed can be gauged wihtout a second referendum.

Red Peak is the only flag with a sense of enthusiasm about it.

If the panel had chosen well there would be four different flags, each being championed by different groups of people, as we head towards the first referendum.

The fact that this is only happening for Red Peak means they screwed up.

I agree with you Bevan, 3 ferns and a Koru. I think the designers screwed up too. They have gone for a corporate brand logo unwittingly rather than a flag which is meant to be the symbol of a country not a business card.

Well now everyone get's the chance to vote for it if they want to.

It could actually have a pretty good chance with the "fern vote" getting split between 3.

Voting is Preferential. So "Fern vote" not split.

Fair enough. Hadn't heard that before. Makes sense though.

Any other flag will need twice the votes of a Lockwood fern to get in.

C'mon Red Peak, you can do it!

Is it too late for something I have been working on? I think it symbolises where power lies and where NZ is heading.....
