He is the main football journo in India. That would have been a disappointing move tbh, not for his bank account ofc.

Yes, although heritage probably would’ve been a better word for the journalist to use.

a couple of years ago an Indian paper listed the top ten Indian footballers in the world. Both Roy Krishna and Sarpreet Singh were in the top 5... They obviously put a lot of stake on ethnicity.

Well they have to because it's not like India proper provides a lot athletic talent. If I recall correctl  they're the worst Olympic nation in the world.

Regensburg 9th at the moment. Form a bit erratic of late. LWLWD.
Had two 0-3 home losses, but also a 3-0 win on the road, amongst those games.

5 pts off relegation spots, and 8 pts off promotion playoff spots.

Only 3 rounds to go (will then be league halfway point) until combined WC/mid winter break of 2.5 months! Season will resume 28th January.

Singh should do a short guest stint at the Nix to get match fit, if he has recovered from his injury!  But imagine JR will head to warmer climes of Middle East or Southern Spain for some sort of camp early Jan.

Regensburg (10th) travel to Heidenheim 1846 (3rd).

Last round of Bundesliga 2, before the WC/winter break. League to resume for JR 28th Jan next year. By then Singh should be available.

Short trip to NZ on the cards? Catch a Nix game?

Liga 2 restarts late Jan.

Jahn goalkeeper Dejan Stojanovic spoke of a "good start. It was nice to see the boys again and to have the ball in our hands and on our feet again."

Offensive player Sarpreet Singh also spoke of "a lot of fun and a lot of energy" in the first training session back on the pitch. He spent his free time in his native New Zealand with family and friends. Now he is "very happy" to be back: "I can't wait to get started."

Sarpreet played the second 45 of their first friendly of the year. The game was a 0-0 draw up north against fellow Bavarians SpVgg Bayreuth, who sit 20th and last in the 3. Liga. Jahn were apparently missing a few players, but for a first team hit-out after the break, and Sarpreet's first since the 3rd of April, result is a bit secondary.

There's also a brief post-match interview, in case anyone wants to hear Sarpreet spricht ein bisschen Deutsch, and some slight Denglisch when necessary.

I'll attempt translation, if nothing else, just to practice my German. Won't be perfect, especially with the interviewer's accent/speed.

Interviewer: What are your conclusions on today's friendly?
Sarpreet: Yeah, was good, first friendly. We had a long break, so, yeah, it was good. Everyone played, 0-0 is okay. We want to win, but for first friendly it is good.
Interviewer: You came on at halftime, how much fun was it? It looked like you had a lot of fun being back on the pitch.
Sarpreet: Yeah, it was real fun, I only want to play football and finally I am allowed to play so it is good and I had fun. I can do better, of course, but in the next weeks it keeps going.
Interviewer: After such a long time, did you quickly feel comfortable after coming in?
Sarpreet: Yeah, I worked very well in the last months, when I can't play, so I was ready, and, yeah of course, I need match practice, so, yeah, it was good for me today, and also next week and until the season starts.
Interviewer: It was often close to the goal, and in the last action could have possibly scored. What is your view on having more chances and possibly scoring a goal? [or something similar]
Sarpreet: Yeah, I believe a bit more people in the box, in the 16er [box]. We create chances, but no one's on the end of it. I think we need more people in the box, and, yeah, we must work to make more shots, then I think it'll come again.

From Flying Kiwis. Interview (in German) with Singh first. Seems he's made a proper effort to learn Deutsch.
https://tv.ssv-jahn.de/detail/video/singh-nach-bayssv-13663

Be great if he came down to NZ for the rumoured China friendlies in March. But wouldn't surprise if he didn't especially if J-R are struggling to avoid relegation. It's a long flight from Europe, and sounds like if was in NZ for Xmas.

Hopefully he hits the ground with Liga 2 restarting this weekend

It’s been a long time, much longer than it should have been, but that wait is almost over. Sarpreet Singh last played a competitive game of football on 2 April 2022 before a painful dose of pelvic inflammation ruled him out for the rest of that season and beyond... realistically he already hadn’t been the same for a couple of months at that stage while he tried to play through the hurt. 2022 was a year to forget for Sadi.

The first half of his season on loan at Regensburg had been nothing short of fantastic but then the injury slowed him right down before taking him out entirely. He missed the All Whites World Cup qualifiers. He then agreed a permanent move to Werder Bremen, to end his Bayern tenure but get him back into the Bundesliga, however that fell apart when he failed his medical. So Bayern loaned him back to SSV Jahn again... only for Regensburg to fail to register him properly thus adding another three months on the sideline until that could be amended in January.

It’s not quite as long as Ryan Thomas was out for but it’s a lot longer than it should have been. Now a couple weeks after Thommo’s own return it’s time for Sarpreet Singh to do the same as Regensburg resume their campaign after the winter break.

And SSV Jahn are desperate for a revival of Superstarpreet excellence. It’s been a strange season for them so fa and butchering the rego for Singh is only part of it. After starting the season with seven points from their first three games things quickly flipped in the other direction and they’ve won just three times since to find themselves only two points above the relegation zone at the halfway stage (albeit in a crowded lower table). 17 games played and 19 points gained, with only 20 goals scored. Somehow in the middle of all that their coach was given a contract extension (same coach as was there with Singh last year so that’s fine by us) while their football director resigned in the wake of the Singh registration drama.

If there’s a silver lining to his extended absence, it’s that Singh is completely ready to go now and has even had the benefit of a few winter friendlies to give him a running start. He was subbed on at half-time of the first of those, a 0-0 draw against SpVgg Bayreuth. Didn’t lead to a goal but by all accounts he definitely gave the team a much-needed spark in attack. That was two weeks ago. He then started the next game, a 1-0 win over Austrian side Kapfenberger SV, playing 63 minutes before he took his bow. And yeah, you guessed it, he got the assist for that winning goal. And just this past weekend they split the squad for two practice games against different opponents Steyr and DJK Vilzing. Singh played 83 minutes in the second of those matches with SSV winning 5-1.

Doesn’t appear to be video of those games but there is a clip of Singh chatting with team media after his comeback game in the first friendly. Spoken entirely in German though so you may need to hire a translator.

But great start with Singh the assist at 2 mins for a 1-0 lead. 50 mins in and is 1-1

Edit - sadly JR lose 1-3. Singh off at 87 mins  at 1-2

From Flying Kiwis. His early assist (a corner) and then a 2nd assist (a freekick) unfortunately denied by VAR - offside.

Get him back playing for the AWs, and who knows the goals might suddenly start happening. AWs were scoring under Hay in those windows late 2021, before Singh got injured. He's that important now for the next 10 years.

Sapreet starting out on the left.

Dead last J-R with 14 games left to avoid relegation. Hopefully Singh goes well over this period and another Bundesliga club aka Bremen (currently looking pretty safe in 9th spot) take a look at him.

I think this must be the last year of his Bayern contract?

Hit the crossbar twice from almost identical positions. He played out wide on the right, so cut inside to his left and hit the ball to curl into the top corner from just outside the corner of the 18-yard box about the half-hour mark and had the 'keeper beaten but the shot crashed onto the crossbar. Then, about the 85th, he hit a shot on the same angle and trajectory, just a metre or so closer, and found the frame of the goal again.

He also had a teammate hit the post in the first half, whereas Karlsruhe's goal came from a massive deflection that took the 'keeper out of play. That's the luck of a relegation side unfortunately.

Hopefully doing enough to show he’s too good for this level and a Bundesliga team looks to sign him. Bayern contract to finish soon? That would make him an even more attractive pickup

They re-signed him before sending him out on loan, they obviously backing him to impress enough to be sold in the off season.

Lol, one of the 3 guys in the box should have followed up and snaffled that up, but I guess they just backed him to hit the target.
