So Hudson's named an injured player from the 7th tier of English football in the AW's

Why not just add Fallon to the coaching roster as an assistant rather than taking up a squad place that could have gone to a promising young player like Myer Bevan?

Fudgeing eh exactly. Every spot is an opportunity to have another tactic, strategy or contingency covered. Picking a player who won't be playing is a dumb idea.

Because Hudson probably can't think of a scenario where he would inject Bevan into one of these  games. I like Bevan but just not quite his time.

I think that Hudson just needs Rory's prayers. Disgusting decision

Herbert tried that with the big JC in midfield.....

happy with his inclusion. The mental side of this contest will be huge, and he offers more than other options.

Picking Fallon otuside the squad would increase costs unnecessarily. Right decision has been made here, well done Anthony.

Cost shouldn't be a factor at this stage. If there are people that can add to the squad they should be there.

Cost is absolutely a factor for an organisation like NZF, 100% of the time. It would be irresponsible for it not to be. More than happy with this decision.

That's fair. May also be related to getting his club to release him. They don't have to if he's named as staff.

Don't know about the lawyer been a waste of time.. The All Blacks one has has a decent work out of late.

You need to have someone with you in case something goes wrong...not that it should, but you nee to be prepared.

Ten thousand dollars, or whatever it would cost, to send Rory is just a drop in the scheme of things and a fraction of what we stand to lose.

Rory will definitely come on as a sub in those two games.

Rory finally calls it a day and retires from all football. A great servant for NZ, and never gave less than his best when he pulled on the white shirt. Hopefully, NZF can find an ongoing role. Perhaps as a UK scout for the AWs.

Seems like his various stints in lower league football was all in order to keep getting game time so that he was in the frame for NZ. He said in an interview that he didn't think he could make it but that Hudson stressed that you had to be playing football to be selected.

Good on him, seems he's sacrificed quite a bit to make sure he's at his best for these playoff games.

Unusual I thought that a man with such a strong faith wasn't praising the Lord in every sentence, interviewer had to lead him to it. Compare that to some of the Americans [especially]. Not making any judgement just ponting it out.

Is that Lord before wicket?

I'm making a judgement, and it's a positive one. Rory obviously knows Matthew 6:5. Showing off how holy you are makes Jesus think you're a jerk.

Absolutely the right time to call time on a long and challenging career. Rory has been a great example to players coming through behaving with dignity and displaying incredible determination to make the best of the opportunities that have come his way.

That's why I'd like to see him involved in an ongoing role with the AWs. He has credibility and Mana, and would make a great scout/liaison for UK Kiwi-based talent. Didn't we have someone on the payroll recently doing that job?

I think in the UK and Europe he would be fabulous in this role.

The job description isn't overly complicated:

1: Make sure the guns actually make themselves available and want to play

2: If some chap is found in a pro environment and has a kiwi parent make them want to play

3: Talent identification of your young kiwis playing in europe

What better guy to tell Tommy and Winston to be proud and suck it up.

And motivate a new potential guy to want to play for us.

Hell his Dad also took us to a World Cup, so he might also know a little about coaching and talent.

I’m not sold on Rory’s ability as a scout/manager  He brought in a lot at Truro which actually made the team worse.  I think he’s better used as a motivational speaker.  Very different to his old man by the way.

Oh, his ice cream is great by the way, worth the trip to Plymouth alone.

There is a 0 (zero) per cent chance of this happening.

Er South West.  South Coast is Poppy, Southampton, Brighton, not Devon and Cornwall.

From last week's Flying Kiwis. Got an academy coaching gig at Swansea.

Guess Covid wouldn't have helped ice cream sales.
