Was told yesterday that Portland supporters are expecting Gleeson to be offered a contract in the near future. Hoping that's true.

Anyways, bloody stoked about Boxall! Glad to have a Kiwi at the Whitecaps!

Tom Soehn, Vancouver's director of soccer operations, has seen enough tape on Boxall, and watched him live, to feel confident in his skills.

"He's a physical presence," Soehn said. "He plays big.

"I don't think he had the greatest combine, but when you watch him in his college games, he did very well. The difficult part is, when guys go to the combine, they will have been off two or three months. They are probably not the same as they were at the end of the season."

Two US college based kiwis have been selected for the ofc u20 tournament: Colin Murphy(Boston College) and James Mcpeake(Fairley dickinson). I have never seen them playing so I was wondering if someone know their current level and if they can have an important role in the next qualifications?

Abris I think that website is incorrect. The Purcell playing for Caledonia is Kemron Purcell:

Yep sounds like it's just for the summer: http://ole.co.nz/news/2011/06/13/robson-joins-chicago-fire/

Same with hunt: http://ole.co.nz/news/2011/06/28/hunt-joins-michigan-bucks/

Boy the schedule for this league is pretty full-on. Check out the Michigan Bucks: http://www.uslsoccer.com/teams/2011/22344.html#SCHEDULE

Mainly 3 or 4 days between games. Sometimes 2!

On tv yesterday the commentator (fortunately not the same that made a mistake about our draw for the WC) said Dakota Lucas is very near to agree a professional deal with Los Angeles Galaxy.
Is it true?

No, Kieran Purcell is Kieran Purcell.  I guess it could be a typo tho.

He was here until fairly recently playing for Western Suburbs, but isn't now I don't think.

Hayden Sander is another Kiwi who has just left to play in College.  I can't remember where exactly.

All White Andy Bevin scored twice on debut for Western Virginia University as they defeated Binghamton 2-1.

In an interesting quirk, he became the first freshman to score WVUs first home goal of the season since former All White and one time Hawkes Bay United teammate Jarrod Smith who recommended Bevin to school scouts achieved the feat in 2003.

Is it fair to say that the US College pathway hasn't been as succesful at converting young kiwis to professional leagues, incl the MLS, as we might have hoped?

The more kids we get in to the bigger colleges the higher the chances of them ending up in MLS etc. The only way we'll get them in to those higher colleges is through A) better grass roots coaching so the talent is good and B) getting them in the shop window (world cups etc). At the moment of the kids we're sending over, how many are at the top end?

Another issue which may be causing issues is the work permit/visa thing. Theres a limit to how long they can be over there, maybe thats an issue when it comes to a pro contract...

Still in the US, Andy Bevin continued his run-of-form for West Virginia University scoring twice in a 4-1 win over non-conference team Richmond.

The under-20 international now has five goals in six games for the Mountaineers.
