There is a clip on Youtube of the game....but it would be one of the worst football clip in history....some drunk, in a middle of a group of singing fans behind the goal line with a dodgy phonecamera. Lots of jerky film of the roof of the stand.

showed potential when he was in the NZ17s but now shows the promise of what they saw when West Brom signed him - awesome future in the game for a kiwi lad! Credit must also be due to his parents for pursing his dream, good luck for the future Chris

wood got left out of the squad v nott forest this morning, apparently to accommodate a returning Ishamel Miller. real shame for him given the impact he has had in the last few games, and having scored last week. also seemed he had crept ahead of Roman Bednar on the striker's pecking list having come off the bench ahead of Bednar regularly. But bednar included and came off bench to score so that wont help wood's chances of game time. on the other hand, luke moore and simon cox (who started) were both poor tonight apparently and Moore in particular must be stretching manager's patience. With all WBA's strikers $ strikers fit, Wood may be the easiest to omit. On the bright side they were v poor today and lost 3-1 so wood not tarnished by being involved.

not injured.

I think Di Matteo just have every one of his strikers fit for the first time and is having to make some tough calls. Wood's definitely not done anything wrong. In fact, he scored lasst game he played, which was the week after he signed a new contract. I imagine its more a case of the Manager having tough calls to make, having strikers and egos he has paid a lot of money for, not wanting to put to much pressure on a young kid and Wood himself being far more prepared to play 2nd team than some of the others. Having said that Im sure he'll get a run again sooner or later. Di Matteo seems to mix things up a bit. Bednar who seemed to be behind Wood is now number 1, and Simon Cox who was number 1 didnt even get on this morning.

Missed out on the match day squad again today.  WBA beat top of the table Newcastle 4-2 at home though.  Siting comfortably in 3rd place. 2ndBest2010-01-24 20:58:42

Chris has played a few games recently: a closed first-team friendly against Hereford last Wednesday(arranged to make up for the cancellation of first team and reserve games due to the atrocious weather) and the FA Youth Cup 4th round 0-2 loss to Aston Villa  the previous week.
Interesting comments on Chris in the Youth Cup loss on this major WBA fans' forum (similar to Yellow Fever): they reckon he always needs the ball played to his feet and is not strong in the air (surprising for a tall lad) and were worried he tired badly in the second half. They thought a first-team player should have done better in a youth tie.

He's not featuring in the first team  due to the fact the squad is almost entirely free of injuries for the first time all season e.g. strikers Ishmael Miller and Roman Bednar are back and they've signed a new Canadian striker. Di Matteo understandably is going with the more experienced players now available.

By the way, Chris Wood's sister Chelsey (a defender) scored in the NZ U-20 Women's team's 11-0 rampage against Tonga to qualify for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany in July.
Rare for brother and sister to both play in FIFA World Cups in the same year- or any year!
All Whites on the telly in June- followed by our U-20 women in July!!!

Well, he scored twice for the youth team in its 2-2 draw with Man City the other day - so that's not a bad contribution - http://www.wba.co.uk/page/News/0,,10366~1943585,00.html
Roman Bednar is under an injury cloud and if he doesnt pass fitness test id guess Wood will be in the squad for the Sheffield United game this weekend.
Recently, WBA has been playing just one striker, which has been Bednar, with Ishmael Miller and Simon Cox as bench strikers.

Disappointing considering hes scoring for fun for Youths and Reserves. I suppose WBA have Moore and Cox on the bench at the moment and apparently Wood has missed some sitters this season.

is he actually? because surely thats a good thing if he's scoring all the time, rather than being stuck on the bench.. give him some confidence

He scored the winnder for WBA Ressies the other night. they beat sheff wed ressies 1 zip.

SOunds like an injury to Ishmael miller so he might sneak back on the bench for the mid week game. they still have bednar, cox and luke moore (who cant get a game despite playing nearly 100 for Aston Villa) so will be suprise if he gets on.

WBA Youth team beat Man United youth team 3 nil yesterday and Wood got the opener.

ALso, rumours he will be loaned to Bristol rovers. Discussion on Rovers fan forums.

Plus, his goal vs Doncaster in contention for goal of the year in the Championship - down to last 20.

No I missed it, although i not sure if it was on in London, just our the WestBrom region.

I was wondering if it was an extension to his interview with highlights of his goal and game play etc. I would be interested to know.

I would like to see Chris Wood get a start in the Mexico game, although I am assuming Ricki would start the 3 other strikers and have Wood come in off the bench. I just feel if he gets the full 90, he will give us something special. Getting 10mins at the end, harldy gives you time to get in the game.

Wood came on in 39th minute against Reading in the FA cup this morning, when the score was 1-1. WBA lost 2-3 after extra time. Apparently had a penalty shout go against him, and was involved in some "great build up play" which did was not put away by Cox.

Well then, he gets a rest before the Mexico game. He really needs at least a 45-60 minute field time with the AWs.

Sounds like he's struggling a little bit at WBA

Still young obviously but I wonder if he's just going so well at reserve level because he's twice the size of everyone else? He probably hasn't had to compete for headers before and then when he goes up to to first grade struggles a bit because of this.
