Faubert on for Lungjberg as predicted. 60 min
Cole on for Boa Morte 65 min due to 2 bad decisions by ref. Two tackles from BM, both times got the ball both times from the side. Bookked for the first warned forsecond.

73 mion Goal Man City. Petrov beats Neil crosses Bianci hits crossbar on far post and Elano gets rebound.

Until then back four had coped well.

93 minutes. All over. Not this year chaps but enough in the game to give us confidence for the weekend.
Must close Petrov down.  He is almost their sole form of attack. Faubert didnt really fire.  Bowyer unlucky not to win a pen. Judged accidental but then a free kick given against Cole for  a similar incident.

Newcastle 4 - 1 Play Arsenal @ Emrites
Hereford beat Tranmere 1 - 0
Harnet? and Waterloo beat Swansea 4 - 2 Play Liverpool @ Anfield

decent performance, although that Petrov looked so dangerous everytime he got the ball.  Micah Richards is an absolute monster, and will be an England player for the next decade.

Deano still looks overweight and sluggish, although the talent is still there.  If we keep giving him gametime this season, he will be lethal with a full pre-season behind him

If he stays.

Petrov certainly dangerous, but I still think we were well in the game until they scored. The 10 minutes each side of half time was just one touch for us and our back four dealt with everything without Green having to get involved.

Commentators thought the taking off of Lungjberg was the changing of the game. What are your thoughts on that? Faubert never really featured, did he.

Following the next two games, Man City A and Liverpool H, the fixtures for Feb should be productive, Wigan A, Birmingham H,  free week, Fulham A

But March has a ?? on it.
Chelsea H, Liverpool A (midweek), Spurs A, Blackburn H, Everton A, Sunderland A.

Parker should be back for the March fixtures.

The Liverpool game is the rescheduled fixture from the start of the season.

Freddie Ljumgberg and Carlton Cole have been quoted this week as saying that The Hammers could finish in the top four.
Love to see it but on first thoughts I think that could be stretching it. But there are seven teams fighting for positions 4 - 6 and there is not a great deal between them. Earlier in the season one would have thought that winning at Anfield was a bit of a dream, but with the depth of our squad producing and Liverpools failure to convert games into wins, there is a possibility that our catch up game on 5th March could be productive.
It is also interesting to see the number of games to be played in the next two months between the 7 teams fighting for Europe. (I have not included Spurs and Newcastle because they are 6 behind us and 10 behind the next team above us. Their new Managers will need to settle on a team and this will further hamper their progress.

I have put together a comparitive fixtures list of the teams involved., and will do a similar one at the begining of each month. The March details are games that the teams have to play against other teams in contention and the top 3 teams.

Do we have a chance?? We need a minimum of 9 from February before a tough March. Bellamy Solano and Parker should be right by then.

Morning Uiron....

Theres alot of press about Deano going to the bar codes at the mo. Apparently he's rated at 7 mill!!!! Just a bit of an understatement there I think! ESP if bent is worth 16.5..

IM on the fence about the whole thing. I reckon Curb's would be willing to get rid so he can sign Bent (8 mill tops) but the spuds probably wouldn't take a cut price and expose their bad business of buying him.

I suppose any player who missed a game last week is liable for a thrashing in the transfer speculation market.

It also seems every man and his Dog is after Green. which is more plausible, I hope he stays claret and blue....

Transfers:  Green: It is Arsenal that worries me here, but would he be #1 there. Ashton: This mornings comments are all for him helping West Ham make the top four. If he leaves after all of this and those comments, then he will feel the wroth of the fans. Keegan is being quoted as signing half the league, but playing with Owen would help international hopes. Offer 8 mil a bit light. I would think we would be looking to double figures easily at this yime of the year. May not get as much at the end of the season when others are available.  Bent: Forget the 16.5mil. Spurs have mentioned a figure of 12 and even that is too high. Noble: Forget Celtic at 4 mil. He doesnt even speak the language! What it comes down to is do we want to sell and does the player want to go. And what we read about that is dodgy at the best of times. A week to go before close of window. Count the days.
End of Season Target: Given the tendancy for the larger papers to fabricate,  I sometimes put a bit of faith in the local rag, The Newham Recorder. (See Curbs Euro Vision on Newsnow). Their report in quoting Curbs indicates that he is now firmly set on a European target, and talks of a top seven finish to qualify. (Can anyone explain where the seventh spot comes from at this stage before we know who is in the FA Cup final). This puts a massive emphasis on us beating Liverpool @ Upton Park on Wednesday, and winning our catch up game, Liverpool away. Normally pie in the sky stuff but with players coming back for these games it could be on, at least for 4 points.  Europe would certainly help us hold players for next year, but Ljungbergs top 4 prediction is stiff.
INJURIES:  They mention that apart from having Ashton for Wednesday's game Bellamy, Zamora and Solano will also be available for selection alongside Faubert and Cole. No mention of Etherington but they do say that Dyer is now off the long term injury list and is back training. Parker is still out until end Feb.

Under-pressure Rafa Benitez is reportedly becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of goals from 10million Dutch (miss)hit-man, Dirk Kuyt, and is lining-up a swap-deal involving West Ham United striker Dean Ashton (pictured).

A potential stumbling block for a deal to go ahead is the Hammers valuation of Ashton, thought to be in the region of 17million, but Rafa has several players at his disposal that he is willing to off-load in a multiple swap-deal.

Norwegian John Arne Riise, who has struggled for form this season, is also a target for Newcastles Kevin Keegan, but more importantly, Hammers boss, Alan Curbishley is understood to be a keen admirer of the ginger-winger and could pave the way to broker a deal during the January transfer-window.

Momo Sissoko is also waiting in the Anfield departure lounge but the Mali International wants to ply his trade (which is apparently playing football) in Italy.

From the Kop website. Also a story about a Gerrard - Ronaldinho swap.

there was a rumor Theo Walcott was offered to us on loan.
Reading some of the red top papers on line there are reports of wenger offering him out to premier clubs... would any of you want him at WH?
with Zamora coming back, Bellamy back Ashton kinda back would we need him? Dyer couldnt be too far off either.

I have a feeling Curbs will off load Zamora and bend over backwards for Bent.

I understand Wenger told one interested Premier club who wants Walcott that he had to play  up front and not wide on the right. He has pace, and a record for scoring, but is not performing at top four standards.

We have Solano, Ljungberg and Faubert out wide right, Etherington and Boa Morte on left and Bellamy, Ashton, Cole and Zamora up front. Cant see why we want a player on loan for the rest of the season unless moves are afoot.

Both Zamora and the club have said he is not going, and Ashton is talking positively and keen to play against Liverpool next Wednesday. Having said that, the window doesnt close until the day after the Liverpool game.   Perhaps there is still a doubt over the fitness of Bellamy long term.
Bent could be better than Zamora, but not at anything over 10 mil. He would still be second to Bellamy and Ashton, unless he is there to replace Ashton.
Then, of course there is the Kuyt /  Ashton swap. Perhaps that is Ashtons motivating factor.

I wonder if there is noise of a restriction on foreign players in the next few years and Liverpool and Arsenal are starting their move now?

Will be interesting to see Ashtons performance and which bench he goes to if he is dragged.
Maybe The deal is already done but we hold him till after that game. If he doesnt get a start, then that could well be the reason.
Bellamy and Cole up front and Kuyt shacking hands with all the West Ham players.

Was thinking the same about Ashton, maybe there has been a deal done already. (paranoia) as for LBM flog him he sh*t. Wenger also wants Walcott playing regular footie. That wouldnt suit us as we have a few squad players ahead of him in experience. Its just their always injured!

It's gonna be interesting to see if Curb's does spend any money in Jan.

He said he wouldnt and with all the players coming right, there is no reason why he should.

LBM has become a liability on the field with his behaviour. Just a matter of time before the red cards come for him.

Perhaps with LBM, Quashie and Dailly out plus some kids on loan.

Might have some info on Slaven Bilic shortly. He has been talking to the club.

Slaven Bilic director of football at WH? That would be great! He turned down the job at Fulham. Has Dailly gone now? It would be nice to off load some of this dead wood we are carrying, cut on wasted wages and maybe spend it on decent YOUNG talent who arn't always injured.

Woodgate looks set to go to Spuds for 7mil (rumor)l. If hes worth 7 Ashton is worth 16! Both are as injury prone as each other.

Dailly still at the club and an excellent role model for the kids there.

We won't take Walcott on loan !! what use would it be.

We won't buy anyone in Jan unless some descent is available to us. All our injured players are coming back.

Oh and remember all the rumours you read, don't forget to chuckle.

I take all the rumors with a pinch of salt. If most of our team gave as much effort as Dailly we would be in the top four! The guy is a true professional. Unfortunately I think his days at WH are over. So better to off load and pay someone else his wage. But LBM and Quashie please do jog on.

As  mentioned earlier, a reliable source of WHU info in the UK has responded to my Bilic enquiry as follows:

Bilic wants to quit the Croatia job after Euro 2008 (end June) and get a job in the English Premier League. His agent has been quietly touting him around for a few months now and Bilic himself has been having unofficial chats with West Ham.

It is a very badly-kept secret he wants the West Ham job.

Few people really believe Curbishley can turn us into a regular top-six club - he just doesn't have the pedigree or the charisma.

Which leaves three options: 1) West Ham fade away this season and Curbs is replaced; 2) Curbs does okay, we finish top 10 and he is "promoted to Director of Coaching; 3) Bilic goes elsewhere.

So the "Bilic for West Ham" story definitely has legs. It's just a matter of whether Curbs is going to be ditched quickly enough to get Bilic before he finds a good job elsewhere.

From the same source:

Ashton went to see Curbishley at the start of the season and asked for a pay rise because he has gone from being one of the highest paid to one of the lowest thanks to all the players arriving on huge contracts.

Curbs told him he could have a new deal if he could prove himself again after injury.

That's why all the Ashton stories are appearing - his agent is trying to get other clubs interested so they can force West ham into giving him a pay rise.

There is absolutely no truth in the Green stories.

BG has accepted Curbs needs a quality third striker behind Ashton and Bellamy so will sanciton buying or loaning one....but only after Curbs has trimmed the enormous wage bill.

That''s why they want to get rid of Zamora (plus Davenport, Quashie, Dailly etc etc).

Absolutely no sign of that happening yet though...

Great win by you guys over the Scousers today. Was just wondering what you hammers fans think of Freddie Ljungberg. I don't have Sky so haven't been able to watch the highlights show. Is he doing the business for you guys and have the fans taken to him?? He was one of my favourite players at Arsenal and miss the chant "We love you Freddie, because you've got red hair" which later got changed to "Because you've got no hair"

From the reports of the QPR game, it would appear that he has already taken my advice.

Whilst there was no lineup listed, the players mentioned were

                                                     Wright

                                                    Spector
                                                    Bondz N'gala

Faubert                              Stokes                      Solano                         LBM

Bellamy (Zavon Hines)65   Zamora (Jack Jeffrey)60       Reid

No mention of fullbacks. Solano central midfield???  Bellamy and Zamora scoring. Solano, Faubert, Bellamy ok for Saturday. Zman progressing. and another Zman on the horizon.and....no injuries.

Also Curbs has rubbished suggestions that Parker is out for the season. 4 - 6 weeks he said.

Birmingham then a week off should see Zamora, Gabbidon, Etherington back and Neill over jet lag.  The winging fat boy out front has now got some opposition for his place. Use it or lose it.

Its good to see all of these players coming back. I dont think bellamy and Gabbidon played the friendly for Wales. To be honest I havent heard of Jeffery of Hines.
