Extra cost either way for an existing sky subscriber? Is that right?

yeah though one would hope sky has a couple of EPL games delayed, or even live each week on their main sports channels (or even prime).

Then there really would be a package for everybody.

Listened to the whole interview. $11.96 per month for two channels (PL 24hr & Bein Sports 2) plus pop-up channels for 3 more games allowing for a maximum of 4 games to be broadcast on sky at one time. From the last question Richard Last answered, it sounds like paying the $11.96 a month also gets you access to Bein Connect which will have all games live to stream. Sounds similar to the set up that was on Foxtel (~$20 a month with access to begin connect) before 3 bein sport channels were recently added to the standard fox sports subscription.

Bein connect will also be available direct from bein for around $18 a month, according to Richard Last.

Have I understood this correctly.  You're already paying for sky and sports (which you get to what the Aleague, champions league, europa league, NZ teams) and now you're asked to pay more for EPL?

Would it be better to lump all football together for one package?  Though I guess that would be fanpass.

Yep, Sky guy on the interview said that Bein bumped the amount being paid for the rights up so much (laughed at the $6million figure and said it was more) that they need to recoup the costs.

What's the functionality of the BeIn web platform? Do we understand from this that it is possible to purchase an online streaming service a la PLP without needing a full sky sub?

Sounds like the best deal possible. Was always going to cost more for the extra channels so that's about as expected, and if you can also get it online without Sky that's perfect. Should suit everyone. $11.96 a month is $143.52 a year so not much different to the $150 PLP cost the first 2 seasons, though you may not need it for 12 months unless other stuff worth watching is on it in the off season.

i am really not interested in a sky subscription/ set top box solution at all. I hope there will be a streaming only option with games on demand, or I will be looking elsewhere

You can get an online subscription via Bein directly for (approximately) $18/mth. This is controlled by Bein, not Sky (hence they cannot say yet exactly what the cost is, they have nothing to do with it).

However, IF you have Sky AND choose to pay them an extra $12/mth to have the two Bein Football channels (which will include up to four concurrent EPL live games, plus the additional EPL p/review shows and other european content) you get the Bein online option included.

Just to be clear: YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE SKY to get the Bein Connect online service - it just works out a little cheaper if you do, on top of standard Sky of course.

The fundamental issue is 'channels' - I want to watch my team play either live or when I wake up. How f*cking hard is that?

I'm sure there will be some people who expected to get it at no extra cost but sadly that was never a possibility given the sums spent on the rights. The deal sounds a lot better than it could have been.

I guess that's where the beIn streaming service comes in. Which if I understand the above correctly, is free if you have the BeIn channel on sky, $18/month if you don't.

So you'll be able to watch it live or on demand either by streaming or on sky. Seems good to me.

Agree.

I guess what long-time sky subscribers will say is that if you compare right now, to when they last had the EPL, it is now $144 per year more expensive. However they are finally coming to the party with a flexible offering and the rights are costing them more, so I can understand this.

The good news is that it does leave people an out-option for Sky with the online offering. I want to take that option, but unsure yet as to the impacts on other sports. More research coming up, sigh.

This whole waiting-for-non-web-based-tv-to-die thing is really dragging on and making life difficult.

Tell me about it.

Watched recording of AWs final.

ET/penos not included in recording of course. No replays on for at least 36 hours (didn't check any further).

Brilliant.

I pay all this money yet I miss this, and game 7 of the nba finals. I only watch about 0.01% of the content I'm having to pay for, and now I'm not even getting that.

Interview with Richard Last from Sky Sport with Tony Veitch confirming the rights on Sky. Pop up EPL 24hr channel $11.96 a month, which includes a second channel Bein Sports 2 which will have La Liga, Ligue 1. Still English Championship, Champions League, Europa League, League Cup on Sky without having to subscribe.

Extra 3 pop up channels on Sunday & Monday morning NZ time so that they can play 4 live games if necessary.

Also mentioned Bein Connect (online service) which we can subscribe to without having Sky, maybe closer to $18 a month he thought.

So a maximum 4 games are live on sky when games are scheduled simultaneously (1 on the main channel, 3 via popup channels based on my listening. )

In addition you'll get Beinsports 2, which will show other content - French football, Italian football, English Championship.

It's not clear that sky subscribers get access to bein connect is it- it sounds like that is an alternative option, not a bundled one, so choosing sky for delivery is no guarantee you will get to see your team live, rather than delayed.

Obviously, there are limited situations where this will be true- the last round, and the midweek rounds where 5 teams playing at once is not unknown.

Couple of questions spring to mind

Will the Sky channels be in HD?

Does anyone here use the aussie Bein Connect? What bitrate is on that service? Is it HD resolution?

The final question Richard Last answered (at around 2 O'clock) seemed to imply that if you pay the $12 to sky you will get access to Bein connect.

Will be on both from what I gathered. I assume the same amount of coverage on standard sport as there was this past season. Plus additional coverage on the new bein sports 2, Unknown how much additional coverage there will be though

That could actually be a marvelous outcome for all hardened football fans. Depending on the "on-demand" options i'll definitely be taking bein Connect up, even better if we get all the extra content over and above the premier league..

Very interesting article in the NBR just now, it states that Sky will receive NO REVENUE from the additional $11.96 subscribers will pay a month, every cent goes to BeIN Sports.

This seems a deal (classed as 'highly unusual' by Sky's Kirsty Way) has been done to avoid more backlash from Sports fans and to generate some goodwill among the football fraternity.

looks very similar to what was previously offered in Australia, one bein sports channel with bein connect access for ~$20, I believe fox didn't get a cut of this money.

Now they have 3 bein channels on the standard fox sports package

And also subscribing to the new football channels give you access to BeIN Connect which is their browser/app interface for no additional cost (similar to PLP)

awesome. Is there any evidence found by any one that being connect will offer all games in demand, rather than just live?

Maybe. Some countries seem to have it,  others don't.

If it does have on demand it looks like they may not be available until 3-6 hours after the game (according to the Australian website). Which isn't ideal, but better than nothing I suppose.

So let me get this straight, I currently have Sky basic and for an extra $12 per month I can get Bein sports online and on my sky decoder?? IS that right? All the football around the world for $12 and not a Rugby game nor Olympics in sight? What a bargain.
