Anybody know how my boy Alfie got on in at his judiciary hearing tonight? Another 6 month ban I suspect.

Who's next in line?

The 5 year plan lasted just 1 season, so who will take the reigns for next season as Head Coach?

Mike Fridge $1.10

Love him or hate him, his record speaks for itself. The Scot has taken time away from the FPL this year and has been spotted at a number of games that did not involve his former club, conincidence? this bookie thinks not.

Malcolm Fleming $5.00

His hat thrown in the ring again. Fleming took over from Phelan at the end of the last decade to mixed success but stepped down citing lack of support from those in the club. Will Malc and United let bygons be bygons?

Aaron Burgess $7.50

Leader of the "Old Boys' Club" and current coach of Dunedin Technical. Has a raport with current players which could certainly help in the recruitment phase. Does this managerial greenhorn have what it takes in the "Big Time"?

Tim Horner $7.50

Another member of the famous "Old Boys' Club", from all accounts he takes a real hands on approach to management side of things. Again a relative rookie to management, but is that a bad thing?

David Moyes $15.00

Out of a job and his reputation in need of repair, this could be a marriage which suits everyone. The question is whether Southern United are willing to take a chance on a man not deemed good enough for another United?

I'd love to see the old boys club take over. Get back a few players that would actually want to play for and respect the coach. Maybe even get some of the old boys club members playing? Jidda, coburns coming back,Scoullar? Guys like Ryder and Jackson  would come back to play. There is still hope for Dunedin footy.

A few Zimmer frame car parks would be needed at training though

This Old Boys Club sounds interesting. How do you join? How much is an annual subscription? What do you get for your subscription if you can sign up? And why isn't Mike McGarry being mentioned in terms of the Southern United job. Surely a more obvious candidate than M. Fleming who is coaching G.I. McGarry did coach the youth team last year and doesn't have winter club committments. Also a name recognised nationally and has been or is involved in NZF age group teams. Seems like he has some credentials.

Rab needs to enter this comp puts together the best in the SI by a country mile.

His programme makes the one A4 page team list put out by some of the Mainland clubs look well, trashy.

2013 Programme of the year award - ENTRIES NOW OPEN

The NZF Media Association is calling for entries for its Programme of the Year category as part of its 2013 annual awards. The category is open to all New Zealand clubs and federations and covers the 2013 calendar year.

The NZFMA is calling for entries for its Programme of the Year category as part of its 2013 annual awards. The category is open to all New Zealand clubs and federations and covers the 2013 calendar year.

To enter, simply send three different copies of programmes which appeared in 2013 to Simon Kay, 23 Coates Rd, Papatoetoe, Manukau 2025, or email links for three online programmes to
[email protected]. Please include with your entry the names of the person or people who are primarily responsible for putting the programme together. Any queries can be directed to [email protected]

All entries must be received by 5pm, Monday, June 9.

Since 2000, the winners of this category have included Napier City Rovers, Cambridge, Lower Hutt City, Island Bay United and the Otago FA. Last year's winners were Petone, with Auckland City, Ngaruawahia and Cambridge highly commended.

The judge had this to say regarding the 2012 entries: "All programmes should supply most, if not all, of the following: Team lists, results, league tables, columns from the chairman, coach and/or manager. I looked for programmes which did the standard things better than most and then delivered even more. Some entries were particularly strong in certain areas - Western Springs, for example, was extremely well designed. Massey University's entry was notable for the only programmes which included a quiz and a map from the ground to the pub for the after-match.

"Auckland City produced a quality programme, with all the usual content done to a high standard, plus a player poster and profile. Ngaruawahia had plenty of photos, including of the opposition, and historic results and photos from previous games against that weekend's opponents, plus a quirky column from Ryan Kerr-Bell. Cambridge again submitted a strong, well edited entry, continuing the concept of focusing on sides other than the first team, complete with pen portraits of each player as part of a good editorial mix.

"But Petone ticked all the boxes with their 24-page programmes: good covers, quality paper, action photos, well edited, a chairman's column that steered clear of the usual cliches. It had things most or none of the other entries had: informative profiles of each weekend's opponents and of Petone life members, plus an entertaining column, Sam Boyd's From The Balcony. This category is notoriously hard to judge but Petone are worthy winners."

Heard you threw a tantrum on the sideline Hamish...throwing the flag on the ground. Not a good look for someone trying to get in the good books of footballsouth.

Heard Hamish is the good books of Footballsouth. Hamish is just a club based referee this year and he was a mere spectator at that game and was called upon  to help out only to be informed by Malcolm that he could run the line better so Hamish called him out a biffed him the flag. PS He Couldn't lace Hamish's boots.

Tuesday 11pm ESPN: Otago United Coach Features in Documentary.

They are repeating the documentary "The Ceasefire Massacre" about Ireland at he 1994 World Cup and the win over Italy.

There was a terrorist attack at half-time on a bar in Northern Ireland at Louchinisland where Catholics and Protestants were watching the game and six died. Psychologically devastated the Irish team and all in both parts of Ireland. The Protestant UDF claimed responsibility.

But helped the peace process along - people were so disgusted on both sides, it contributed to a the ceasefire being called soon after.

A big NZ connection with this one - future All Whites coach Joe McGrath and future Otago coach Terry Phelan were technical director and fullback for the Ireland team at that time. They can be seen in the match footage. Ireland had to get at least a draw against Northern Ireland to qualify for the Finals - which they did in Belfast. Extra drama!

Joe McGrath can be seen behind Jack Charlton post-match in footage of the game vs. Northern Ireland.

Terry Phelan can be seen celebrating Houghton's goal and acknowledging the crowd after the win over Italy at Giants Stadium in New York in the Finals.

Can anyone confirm the outcome up in Timaru? Heard Mosgiel were under the pump. Overmire apparently popped his goal scoring cherry down in the dirty south, Uni up 2-0. And Tech, well no surprises there.
