Seems he is being spoken to about the Mariners job - he is really managing to dine out on 2010 for a looooooong time...

Fair enough though...

Ricki did ok with what he had with the NIX and deserves some credit (as far as the All Whites go I will cut him no slack!)

He knows how to work with a budget and did help create a positive culture, both things that will be of value at the Mariners.

I don't think there was much of a budget when Ricki and Terry were in charge at the Nix.

It would be good to see Ricki back in the league so long as it is with one of our competitiors!

It's hard being a professional coach in this part of the world and everyone has bills to pay. I hope he goes well and the Waikato unveils another Rojas or two.

Bit of egg on some people's faces in thread given Ricki resigned from the Maldives to be with his dying mother during her final months, rather than being sacked.

Isn't it odd that secondary school level proves to be the most lucrative option for our top football coaches.

That should point more to what is wrong with college sports and education in this country. When you hear stories of what is put into rugby in Auckland schools......

It's the same all over the world, university grid iron coaches are the highest paid government employees (when the universities are state owned) in the US by some margin.

is there any actual value in college football generally, much less a college team coached by Ricki?

What do you mean by value?

i would suggest that college football is now less relevant, the better players are now focusing on Sunday u17s, if not appearing in cpl or cl for the bigger academies.

it brings prestige to these schools, especially the private ones. Attracts (high) fee paying students.
