Ah, so that's where Blake's turned up. Wanderers will be gutted, especially after he began the winter with them, then headed off to Scotland.

Speedy was at the launch event the other week, so unless something's changed in the meantime, then yup.

What do you mean of note?  Also have Dane Schnell who played for the 17s in all the games in Chile.

Just meant names I'd seen before in various place - Derlin because he went to Dortumund, Imrie as a current under-20, Bull as a guy who I've seen get wraps (but no age-group WC selections all the same). Funnily enough Schnell would have been the next one, if only because his name means fast in German (is he fast?)

Was why 'note'was in quote marks - not meant to be definitive.

it's more about a deeper introduction to each player - it makes sense if your following it on facebook (there should be a link further up)

Everyone felt that if we dropped them all once it would not be as powerful - however we probably needed to start a bit earlier as most of the names in the squad are out there already.

Essentially teams like Team Wellington and Tasman did what we are doing by naming players as they signed - we are just a bit late...

Fair enough. And it has to be said, any communication is better than what has happened in the past - some teams have really stepped it up this season and hopefully will be rewarded with good crowds etc

Speedy, Prattley, Tieku, Pasagic were for sure.

Payne kind of was, but was registered past the deadline or something similar (they had a couple of results reversed), and I think Ekpo may have been similar?

Quite likely to with his pedigree -  29 year-old Silvio Rodic's whole career has been in the Croatian and Polish first divisions.

1.98 metres tall (6'7")

http://int.soccerway.com/players/silvio-rodic/3674...

12 games in the Polish top flight last season (ten starts)

Played the entire game in the Polish Cup Final, May 2014 and kept a clean sheet (his team lost on penalties 5-6) in front of a crowd of 37,000 at the national stadium in Warsaw.

Suburbs have signed some class imports.

Nigerian midfielder Emmanuel Ekpo is one of the highest profile players to ever play club football in NZ.

http://int.soccerway.com/players/emmanuel-ekpo/375...

Over 100 games in Major League Soccer 2008-2011 including the 2008 title with Colombus Crew.

Most recently has played in the Norwegian top flight with major club Molde (2012 title) and Haugesund.

Played in the Beijing Olympic Football Final 2008 for Nigeria vs. Messi's Argentina.

Played in the semi win vs. Belgium and Nigeria's three group games.

Fellow Nigerian Osita Henry Chikere, a striker, also comes to Suburbs from Norway where he won the second tier last year and previously played for major top flight club Viking. 1.95 m tall (6'6") target man:

http://int.soccerway.com/players/osita-henry-chike...

Derek Tieku, striker / winger: Ghanaian ex Fulham FC Academy 2007-13, Crystal Palace reserve team 2013-14

Played in England's National League (fifth tier) for a couple of seasons and in Sweden before immigrating here):

http://www.aucklandfootball.org.nz/tieku-eager-for...

Eastern Suburbs have a tradition of signing high profile foreign players going back to the 1950's and 1960's when they signed two of the greatest players ever to appear for a NZ club side, namely Ken Armstrong (ex Chelsea and England, who mostly played for North Shore but played for Eastern Suburbs in the mid-1960's) and Billy Walsh, ex Manchester City and Ireland (member of the Republic side that became the first non-UK team in history to beat England in England in 1949) who played all his club football in NZ for Eastern Suburbs. His ashes are interred at the City of Manchester stadium:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Walsh_(Irish_f...

https://web.archive.org/web/20070929122352/http://...

"Eastern Suburbs beat North Shore in the 1957 Auckland final of the Chatham Cup...The Chatham Cup game was the most exciting cup game or any game that I have witnessed in New Zealand. It was against Suburbs, led by that great personality Billy Walsh, an ex Irish International of some twenty odd caps, and an ex Manchester City player. The first half Shore were playing well but two extraordinary shots from Gerry McCormack which scored, and one other scrambled shot from Dave Anderson saw Shore down 3-0 at half time. It was really an awfully bad score, and the Shore dressing room was like a morgue at the interval. However, some soul searching talk on the subject of pride and manliness and enjoying the game for the games sake, worked a miracle, because Shore tore into the second half like a tornado. John Ryan playing the game of his life scored three including one from the spot. The Suburbs goal woodwork was struck several times and scrambling clearances were made by a desperate defence. The capacity Blandford Park crowd were roaring their heads off when, with minutes to go and Suburbs out for the count, Billy Walsh who was having an outstanding game, cleared from deep in his own half a long, high ball that dropped behind the Shore defence. One solitary Suburbs player John Brown standing on his own at the halfway latched on to it ran a few yards and cleverly lobbed the ball over the advancing Hough’s head to score and win the game 4-3 for Suburbs. After the final whistle the scenes in the Shore dressing room were quite astonishing. Strong men had tears in their eyes, and everyone who was anyone came in to commiserate and congratulate the Shore side on a great performance. Including Billy Walsh who commented to the effect ‘that he had rarely played in a game that was so hard fought and exciting’. He continued in the vein ‘I am sorry there has to be a losing side in such a game, but you are a young team and you will go a long way’.

Keeper didn't have much to do.  Swedish/Bosnian striker is a donkey.  Tim Payne probably best on park for Suburbs.

Pretty average behaviour towards the officials throughout but deserved winners on final balance of play but  a lot closer than I expected it to be.
